to hate car stickers saying 'Baby on Board'

Sorry but they drive me mad. I drive carefully all the time so I'm not going to take special care if there is a baby in the car in front of me. Or are they alerting me to the fact that the person in front of me is likely to drive erractically as they are a parent and therefore have much more important things on their mind than driving safely? Or are they, as I suspect, just a way of saying 'Hey look what I made...'? And don't get me started on the ones that say 'Princess on Board'. They don't even make me laugh.
Anyone else want to put them in Room 101?

I can't believe this thread is still going!

I genuinely thought that people have these stickers as baby's bodies are much more delicate than adults and are therefore more likely to die in an accident than an adult. I know that nobody wants anyone to die, every life is precious etc but I wouldn't panic half as much if someone went into the back of DH's car with just me and him in it. If I had a baby in the back it would scare me!

Rockbird · 21/08/2010 14:32

And this thread isn't?

I repeat, I don't have a sticker, I don't have a baby.

But accusing people of being smug, and tormenting people with feritility issues is nuts. Apparently the whole world goes round considering your feelings? How touching for you.

Wanderingsheep · 21/08/2010 14:32

Is it baby's or babies? Lord help me!

ssd · 21/08/2010 14:41

agree with the op, haven't read anymore of the thread but hate those babies/princess on board things

deaddei · 21/08/2010 14:57

I have a "Wales" sticker on my car. Wink

ilovesprouts · 21/08/2010 15:08

hey how about mumsnetter in car sticker :)

deaddei · 21/08/2010 15:14

That would cause a few accidents!

Psammead · 21/08/2010 15:15

We could have 'Nice ham on board'.

ChippingIn · 21/08/2010 15:33

I quite fancy one saying:

Driver wearing Judgey Pants

...you have been warned.

Psammead · 21/08/2010 15:43

'Honk if you like biscuits'

Fel1x · 21/08/2010 15:47

Mad to get so wound up about a sticker!
I don't have one, don't see the need, but other people do and that's got nothing to do with me!

Ariesgirl · 21/08/2010 15:54

How about a car sticker which says "Smug parent with little prince and princess who insists on everyone else driving carefully but will drive as fast as they damn well please on board"?

Though it would make for rather a large sticker.

hairytriangle · 21/08/2010 17:08

I can really see a 'baby on board' sign be useful in a crash situation, but only if people just keep them in the car when the baby is in the car.

I saw one that said 'Proud Dad to be On Board'. Frankly, who gives a flying fig ??!!

Morloth · 21/08/2010 17:12

I think I would like one that said "Wide Load" that way people would know not to park to close to me.

Kaloki · 21/08/2010 17:25

I want one that says "back off fuckwit"

Ariesgirl · 21/08/2010 17:38

I want one which says "Woman on board who is driving. And that's about as interesting as one informing me your offspring are on board."

"Back off fuckwit" . Actually Kaloki I have seen something very similar.

I did see one at home once that said "If you can read this, then you are too fucking close".

curryfreak · 21/08/2010 18:19

I'm thinking of getting one of these.
Dont give a flying fuck about your baby on board. Whaddya think. Could start a trend!

elowesou · 21/08/2010 18:21

YANBU. They are smug IMO.

If people don't want to let other road users know these things, and for other people to read the sign and react to what they're being told, then why bother having a sign at all? Confused

ssd · 21/08/2010 18:51

I want one that says "woman in a bad mood" on it

I bet the other drivers would give me a wide berth Grin

undercovamutha · 21/08/2010 18:57

They are very smug, and IMO used by the very same people who feel it is essential to use at least 6 window shades, to ensure that not even a crack of sun will enter the car and blind their pfb!

sterrryerryoh · 21/08/2010 19:25

Ooh, I?ve been away all day, and come back and this thread is massive!
I have a baby on board sign - I would like to repeat that I am not smug, nor displaying it as an affront to the infertile or childless. I mean, really!!? Are there seriously people out there who can?t have children who would take these stickers as a personal attack?
I bought mine with a load of other crap wonderful baby-related paraphernalia when DS came home, and stuck it in the car, as that?s what you do with them. Never gave it another moment?s thought until this thread. In fact, in all honesty, I had to check to see if it was still in the car when I was previously posting, as I?d forgotten! Clearly it gets people?s backs up for some reason, but I would just like to assure you, whatever you may think, that here is one sticker-owner that didn?t put a sticker in her window to annoy, upset, offend or project smugidity. So there

FourEyesGood · 21/08/2010 20:44

But do you take it out when your baby isn't on board?

melikalikimaka · 21/08/2010 20:58

I was so chuffed when I could put on my car, of course I raced to the shop to get one as soon as I could!
