to hate car stickers saying 'Baby on Board'

Sorry but they drive me mad. I drive carefully all the time so I'm not going to take special care if there is a baby in the car in front of me. Or are they alerting me to the fact that the person in front of me is likely to drive erractically as they are a parent and therefore have much more important things on their mind than driving safely? Or are they, as I suspect, just a way of saying 'Hey look what I made...'? And don't get me started on the ones that say 'Princess on Board'. They don't even make me laugh.
Anyone else want to put them in Room 101?

This thread has become ridiculous! Saying that it is people's way of sticking fingers up to the infertile/bragging about their fertility! I mean come on! FGS.

Maybe shops should stop selling the "It's a Boy!" or "It's a Girl!" banners too so as not to offend anybody.

Yes, infertility is devastating. Miscarriages are heartbreaking - I know I've been there but I wouldn't believe for one moment that someone has put a bloody sign in the car to say, "ha ha, look at me! I have a baby ner ner!" Yes the signs are shit. I know someone whose car you can't move in for the things but she waited a loooong time for her children and thought she'd never be blessed with them. Why the hell shouldn't she celebrate them?

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 19:36

Can?t imagine anyone doing it to annoy anyone or boast. And you?re right bright light - pre-DS if I saw one of those stickers, I would have been more aware/tolerant that the driver might drive more slowly than normal.

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 19:37

Exactly, Wanderingsheep!

Superfly · 20/08/2010 19:40

BoojaB - stop playing the arse flute and start talking sense. I know many people who are not remotely 'chav' (whatever the fuck that means) and it is their choice whether they have stuff in their car is advertising a Baby/ Child/ Princess/ Mum-to-be/ OAP/ Lifeboats/ National Trust/ Whatever on board. I see it and it doesn't even register in my consciousness because to me it is irrelevant.

Maybe you have some sort of chav-ist attitude - since you keep bringing that up?

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 19:43

Grin@ Arse-flute!

BoojaB · 20/08/2010 19:44

BrightLightBrightLight to say that you may be distracted and not driving properly because you have children in the car is awful! Excuse me if I crash into you, but I have children you see. Incredible.

anyabanya · 20/08/2010 19:47

Oh ffs. This thread moved on since I read it last.

It's friday night. Let's all have a glass of wine and chill out.

Live and let live. Some people want the signs. Some don't.

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 19:49

Don?t get in the car after the glass of wine though!

my dh a paramedic, said they are taught to look for a baby everytime and not a little triangle.

he also pointed out that the safety concious parents that use these are likely to strap their kids in. It's the ones not strapped in that end up out the car Sad

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 19:51

I didn?t get mine because of the ?emergency services? aspect - I just really liked it

Poppet45 · 20/08/2010 19:52

Off on a tangent.... don't the emergency services call those things the Jaws of Life not the jawsofdeath as was mentioned earlier... are those used by firefighters from the dark side?

Divatheshopaholic · 20/08/2010 20:00

Nothing wrong with Baby on board! Shock
Other stickers such as
Sexy babe on board, Bitch on board, Princess on board, Grandson James on board............

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 20:19

Nothing wrong with it at all. Not smug, chavtastic, or a smack in the face for the infertile. Just something else to moan about, apparently

thomsc · 20/08/2010 20:22

I have one to indicate to other drivers that i might drive erratically due to constant shouting and demands for whatever has just been dropped for the millionth time.

Cathycat · 20/08/2010 20:35

I don't have one but perhaps I should do because I do drive erratically - mind you I'm sure that the other drivers can tell why. My children don't hide the fact that they are being daft!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/08/2010 20:36

I was watching one of those cops with cameras type show (nothing decent on TV as per usual..) and it was a special episode on a fatal car crash on a motorway.
One car got completely crushed, the poor young woman unfortunately died. The emergency services mentioned they were currently looking for any infants despite there being any baby on board signs or any visible sign of a carseat, which goes to show that they look regardless of any stickers or indeed any other outward signs of parenthood. So the signs are not needed to inform emergency services.
I wouldnt go as far as saying people have them to rub it in other peoples noses, but I just dont like them, think they are silly and if somebody is going to be an arsehole and drive like a twat I dont see how a little sticker in the back of my car is really going to stop them.

I don?t drive erratically with or without my son in the car - I just bought one because I wanted to, and I could! Love the fact that they?re so controversial with no reason!

Superfly · 20/08/2010 20:43

i'm going to buy loads tomorrow and stick them all over my car just to piss people off

BoojaB · 20/08/2010 20:44

Just noticed that two people claim they are distracted and drive erratically to the point where they stick a Baby on Board sticker in to alert other drivers!

I'm with StewieGriffinsMom, that's is ridiculously self-centred. Why the hell should it be up to other people to steer clear of you and your hazardous driving?

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 20:45

I?m going to get one for both backseat windows

I don't buy this making people aware of erratic driving argument - what about cars ahead of you that can't see the sticker - they're not going to know you might ram them because you're distracted by the kids - to me this suggests that if your children are that distracting perhaps you shouldn't be driving?

And to those who say that they are a celebration of their child - do you have them up in your house? I mean, why in the car but not at home?

I hate them because I hate the suggestion that babies deserve better drivers around them than anyone else. I don't think they're two fingers up to the infertile though, that's a bit silly. And I say this as someone who has had many miscarriages . But now I have a baby I don't have one of these stickers - I really don't see the need. I celebrate my baby every time I look at her - don't need the rest of the world to give two shits about the fact I have her and have waited years for her.
