I'm a bit disgusted at a friend's FB picture showing her 3 year old drinking a glass of lager.

What's the consensus before I delete her? AIBU? I've already hidden her updates because of the constant swearing.

You were pretending though Bagged, would your parents allow you to actually do this and then post pictures on the web?

mayorquimby · 30/07/2010 11:49

I'd say your over-reacting to a joke photo

Chooks · 30/07/2010 11:50

I'm astounded by the amount of people that see it as a joke, why is it funny to pose a picture of a child drinking??

Scaredycat3000 · 30/07/2010 11:52

I think there is a difference between a private family snap and bragging about it, which to my mind is what pasting on a very public arena like facebook is doing.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 30/07/2010 11:53

the picture is pretty much like this one It's just not acceptable, I may be over reacting, it's just wrong though.

OP posts:
mangoandlime · 30/07/2010 12:06

It's not big, or clever, or even funny.

But, you're all intelligent adults, surely you can see it's just a picture?

Blimey, some people way overthink things sometimes.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 30/07/2010 12:08

I know it's a picture, I said in the title that it's a picture.

You sound v 'Outraged from Tunbridge Wells' about it.

Just delete her and be done.

FindingMyMojo · 30/07/2010 12:12

I think half the world have photos like these and find it highly amusing & cute, while the other half roll their eyes and tut at the hidieousness of an image of a small child drinking.

I very very much doubt that the actual child will be drinking actual alcohol in 99.99% of these pictures.

Toddlers seem to be drawn to empty beer bottles and people do have cameras to hand, and will take 'cute' photos.

I don't find it funny, but it doesn't upset me either.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 30/07/2010 12:17

What's 'outraged from Tunbridge Wells'?

I don't know if she was drinking it or not, it looks like it's tipped far enough for it to go into her mouth though, it's not a bottle, it's a glass so it's clearly not empty, it's not cute or amusing.

I have a picture of my DS1 holding a can of carling! He didn't actually drink any (not from lack of trying tho!) but somebody managed to get a picture.

So I am evil chav mother for thinking it's funny and posted it on facebook where my evil chav friends can also have a laugh at it!

I have actually already said that there's nothing wrong with an older child having a small amount of alcohol with a meal with their family, it's better to teach a child about responsible drinking. Have you not read the thread?

OP posts:
belledechocolatefluffybunny · 30/07/2010 12:32

There's no top on a glass though is there? The child's mouth is open (naturally) and there's beer going into it. I have posted a smiliar picture above so you can see (if you have read the thread).

ChoChoSan · 30/07/2010 12:33

It might be viewed as chavvy to post a picture of it on FB, but it's not shocking, so this is my first ever

pagwatch · 30/07/2010 12:33

but surely there are lots of situations where we laugh at children doing things that seem adult.

It makes me laugh when my Dcs put on my high heels, or when DS2 went to go to work with Dh by doing the cliche picking up the briefcase things. And DD is hilarious when she sits in the car attempting to navigate by reading the map upsidedown.
DD was studying the wine list quite intently when we were eating out on holiday and likes to have a handbag over her arm when we go shopping.

Don't kids often ape adult behaviours. And don't we find many of them cute or funny because they are incongrouous?

Look , if the picture is heavily staged and is in very bad taste - which is hard to say without seeing it - then dump her and disapporove by all means. I probably would too.

But a child having a sip of alcohol is not a sure fire step to alcoholism. And a jokey photo is usually harmless

Ok, so a picture of a child tilting a glass with beer inside it which is going into it's mouth isn't drinking it?

There isn't anything wrong with an older child having a small amount of alcohol with a family meal, inside or out. A small child is different though.

I have pictures of ds (aged then 2) walking around in my shoes, this is funny.
