my husband and his sister have organised it for the first available date fair enough, but it is friday the thirteenth. I do not want to go and I do not want my DC to go either if he insists that it has to go ahead on this date, because I believe it to be very bad luck.

"Do none of you believe that it is bad luck to break a mirror, walk under a ladder, see a single magpie?"

Em yes when i was about 6 fgs

You are an adult, grow up and support your husband

Grow up you silly woman.

CaptainDarcyCasuabonHenchard · 30/07/2010 10:08

Madame Superstitious, you are quite right. It was last Friday 13th when I stubbed my toe, so clearly this is a day of pure evil that should be simply purged from the calendar. How dare anyone even think of going to work/sending children to school or out to play/indeed even getting out of bed on such a day?

Floopy21 · 30/07/2010 10:11

You need psychiatric help.

getabloodygrip · 30/07/2010 10:13

for the love of god....

Are you the same airhead with the faulty trike, who has absolutely no grip on reality and is completely self-absorbed?

Lulumaam · 30/07/2010 10:13

13 is lucky in some cultures and religions

if superstition is ruling your life to this extent, you should get psychiatric help

flootshoot · 30/07/2010 10:16

Blimey. Are you 5 years old?? You need to get a grip. Even if you believe this wholeheartedly it's not your call.

Put your beliefs aside for one day. I'll bet people who aren't Christian manage it for catholic funerals etc.

winstonstimpson · 30/07/2010 10:18

DD2 was born on Fri 13th. Anyway, simply don't believe this OP. I have never said that before either. So there.

swanandduck · 30/07/2010 10:19

Oh grow up. This is your dh's father and your dc's grandfather. I think not going to the funeral will bring you bad luck ie your husband's family and friends will be disgusted with you.

edam · 30/07/2010 10:19

Superstitious - what's more important here, your frankly bizarre ideas or your FIL's death and your dh's grief? If you are being serious about this, then you are deeply, deeply selfish.

And if you are THAT superstitious you will know that you can ward off bad luck by, for e.g. saluting a magpie or reciting the magpie rhyme. So, as someone suggests, take a lucky charm along with you.

I bet superstition says it is REALLY bad luck to behave in a disrespectful manner to the dead or their family.

Or you could just look up some statistics and see how silly the idea is that going to a funeral on Friday 13th will bring you bad luck.

mayorquimby · 30/07/2010 10:24

This can't be real.
Only a moron would actually believe this shit.
"Would you seriously want take the chance with your families?"
I'm not sure you've earned the right to use the word "seriously" given the topic of this thread. And take what chance?there is no risk to be considered here.
This is a wind up

PollyLogos · 30/07/2010 10:27

Pretend you're Greek! It's Tuesday 13th that's unlucky here!

montmartre · 30/07/2010 10:28

I am sorry if you have to live your life crippled by these phobias. But they are phonias- irrational and not grounded in truth.
My sympathies to your DH's family.

kittybrown · 30/07/2010 10:30

my father's funeral was on a Friday 13th. We decided that it was appropriate somehow as NoahandTheWhale said nothing could be worse that what had already happened.

Last time I checked none of the people there have died including myself. And I wore black. This was nearly 12 years ago.

bruffin · 30/07/2010 10:33

DS just worked out that is 18th birthday will be Friday 13th in the year 2013, he thinks it's brilliant.
If it's unlucky to wear black, wear purple instead.

Think about things logically, you selfish fool.

And look up the origins of those superstitions.

Ah, I see you have omitted the colour green from your excellent list of things to be avoided. Now, green is definitely unlucky. Indeed, my great-aunt actually died while hanging new green curtains in her drawing room. She was but 92!

MyMamaToldMe · 30/07/2010 10:39

Oh. For. Goodness. Sake!!! Get a grip!

Trafficcone · 30/07/2010 10:39

Utter twattery and I agree with gagamama, this is the ultimate in poor taste trolling.

BitOfFun · 30/07/2010 10:43

I walked under a ladder once and literally two steps later found an envelope with thirty quid in it.

aurynne · 30/07/2010 10:45

No. You are not being unreasonable. You are being an insensitive idiot.
