I had huge problems with them when I moved to a brand new house. Eventually I gave up and cancelled the broaband connection with them - which mean't that I lost the cashback that I should have got for ordering a new line and broadband together with them.

Stupidly I had thought it would be simpler to get both from the new supplier.

Imagine my delight when a month later - they paid up the cashback anyway! I got a free line installation, no broadband and £65 back from them... it made all the hassle worthwhile...

Miggsie · 28/07/2010 12:04

It would be their biggest department if they did

nomorebooze · 28/07/2010 12:06

how did you pull that one off jezzy?

OP posts:
belledechocolatefluffybunny · 28/07/2010 12:07

They call you up, offer to upgrade you to a different package, you accept then right at the end of the call they tell you that you are now tied into a 12/18 month contract. They don't send you any information or let you know about the cooling off period. 10 months later when you want to leave the bastards want money off you for line rental that you will never use, you refuse to pay so they send Wescot after you. Bastards!

I hate BT.

They just tried to charge me £52 for leaving them so I wrote to this address: BT plc,
Correspondence Centre, Durham, DH 98 1BT explaining that the charge was totally illegal. Someone phoned me up to say they would waive the charge, but then they took the money from my account anyway - thieves! It has taken several long phone calls but now they reckon they are sending me a cheque. Don't trust them at all though. Anyway, enough of my rant - the address above is their complaints dept.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 28/07/2010 12:23

I'm going to complain!

It is illegal, they should tell you the terms and conditions of any contract before you consent. Bastards!

accidentalchickenkeeper · 28/07/2010 12:23

BT are absolute fuckers. I hate them with a passion.
I looked through some of the consumer websites, it may have been moneysavingexpert, that gave me an address for the complaints dept. I think it's in Glasgow iirc
Wrote a shitty letter to them and my complaint was dealt with quite quickly to be fair.

Opinionatedfreak · 28/07/2010 12:28

Complaining is easy.

Recorded delivery to Chief Exec.

Clear summary of problem and what your expectation of resolution is.

Has worked for me twice with BT

gingerkirsty · 28/07/2010 12:33

They are vile, we tried to get them to install a line to our flat which they were totally incapable of, and after a long sage of failing to turn up etc etc my husband made a complaint - and they refunded us for a £125 charge we had never paid in the first place! Result!

Doodleydoo · 28/07/2010 12:39

They offered us a package for broadband etc, deal was good as far as I could see, turns out once they have connected us and signed us up for 18 months as per the deal that we weren't in the correct area . Even though they couldn't provide the service we HAD SIGNED UP TO, they refused to cancel the contract. bunch of fucking idiots. Did manage to get them to take the deal money off in one lump sum but many phonecalls later. So pissed off and feel your pain as if you bloody phone them they charge you for the privelage of complaining!

Also don't get me started on that other monopoly - sky

yama · 28/07/2010 12:41

Porcamiseria - I could've written your post word for word.

I don't like to think of those dark days [shudder].

I am feeling your pain right now, nomorebooze.Since mid june when I moved house I've been trying to get the line and broadband established. First they forgot to end us being responsible for our old house for the first week. Since then there is a technical fault with open reach which prevents them or anyone else setting us up with a landline and internet.
I've spent the last six weeks in a bt groundhog day, each time I've phoned being put through to about 4 different departments, explaining to about 8 different people, each time them trying to place an order and it not working.
I've finally been given a direct number for the home movers priority care team, which although it doesn't change the fact they can't tell me when it's going to be sorted, at least I can get in touch with the right people and they phone me. They have now provided me with a free mobile dongle and are going to reimburse me for pay as you go on it.
If it's a home move that's the problem, I can pass the number on.
OTELO is the ombudsman for telecommunications if you are still having problems after 8 weeks.

dolphin13 · 28/07/2010 14:15

We changed to them a month ago. BIG MISTAKE. It has been a nightmare, only got phone working a few days ago. BT say they are going to charge us £125 for work but the engineers have told us that all the problems were on equipment outside our home that belongs to BT.

TippGirl · 28/07/2010 14:19

A proven way to get BT's attention is to post the details of your problem on Twitter. They actively monitor with a view of maintaining their corporate image.

sb6699 · 28/07/2010 14:22

I have a similar problem to hophop. We moved at the beginning of April and still havent got a bloody phone.

They keep giving us a date that the line will be activated then it doesnt happen. At one point they actually tried to tell us it was switched on the day before.

The most recent communication they told us that our order had been cancelled by our Landlord - who obviously has no authority to cancel anything and denies even speaking to them.

When DH asked why our order kept being cancelled the operator replied "all I keep hearing is why, why, why. I've got all my services so quit whining at me or I'll hang up". DH asked to speak to a manager and was told if he insisted on it that he would just be "indefinately placed on hold".

Eventually got to speak to a manager and apparently the complaints department were going to call us back - that was on 6th July!!!

sb6699 · 28/07/2010 14:23

Was their not a thread on here a while ago about the worst customer services and BT and Mothercare seemed to be mentioned in just about every post.

shockers · 28/07/2010 14:26

We ordered a new line with homehub from them for our new house. DH asked if there was an easy to remember no. that we could have as our DD has LD. They changed our no. at our old house (that we're still in for the moment til the other house is finished). That no. isn't even with BT!

We told them about their mistake so they changed the OLD no. again (we still don't have one at the new house). This happened 3 times. After much time spent talking to their customer services, they told us that they cannot reinstate our old no. as it wasn't one of theirs.

When DH (self employed) told them that he had lost business, they snottily pointed out that it wasn't a business no.

So... we have no new house and a no. that nobody knows at our old house. All this when we are in the middle of moving our DD with SN from one authority to another.

They are possibly the most inefficient company I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.

hophophippidtyhop · 28/07/2010 14:31

What is irritating about the whole thing is they closed our account as they couldn't place the order, so when I do eventually get a line, I'll need a new 12 month contract!! Last thing I want to do!
