Lots of lovely attitudes shown on the 'is breastfeeding a middle class thing' thread.

How smug can you get?

Hands up if you are working class and not a stupid, uneducated, druggie, selfish, malnourished and mindless waste of space.

Someone pointed out to me on here the other week that I'm WC 'cos my mugs match my butter dish.

I also had the full pierrot range in my bedroom in the 80's.

I am doomed to wear gorblimey trousers forever.

usualsuspect · 13/07/2010 21:32

ah... but did you have the eternal bow range on your wedding list

Morloth · 13/07/2010 21:33

Surely having a butter dish makes you posh?

lowenergylightbulb · 13/07/2010 21:44

A butter dish (blue and white stripes no less!!) on it's own would be enough, but my matching mugs have (and tea and coffee jars) have revealed the working class scum in me.

Maylee · 13/07/2010 21:48

I'm deffo not middle class.....I can't stand Boden for one thing......

LetThereBeRock · 13/07/2010 21:58

I don't get the appeal of Boden either, for children or adults.

expatinscotland · 13/07/2010 21:59

Boden. Where is the virtue in being ripped off? Tell me why people think it's 'posh' to be taken for a mug buying over-priced stuff like this.

LetThereBeRock · 13/07/2010 22:04

Beats me.

I remember the thread were we discussed kettles and coffee and teabags being provided in hotel rooms.
Apparently only cheap hotels do that and some people would prefer to call room service and pay £5 every time they want a cup of tea rather than make their own. It's crazy.

Maylee · 13/07/2010 22:06

It's a sign of their middle-classdom. Bit like joining an NCT group - useless as fuck but lets everyone know you're middle class.

There was a post on here recently - someone grumbling that they had not been notified of the Boden Sale on the correct date. And there I was thinking we were in the middle of a global recession, death toll still rising in Afghanistan, cuts to benefits for the neediest families in society, etc........

SanctiMoanyArse · 13/07/2010 22:27

at both eternal bow and Boden

My mugs are M&S abd I love them

IFancyKevinELevin · 13/07/2010 22:47

I put my hand up to working class, but now put my hand up to owning an Alessi butter dish in the shape of a boat.

Do I need to pack it in and stop getting ideas above my station?

I was even thinking of upgrading to Guzzini.

OrmRenewed · 14/07/2010 09:50

Ooh ooh! SIL had eternal bow on her wedding list She also likes 'cute' animal figurines doing odd unanimal-like things such as sweeping paths and baking tarts.

Morloth · 14/07/2010 09:58

I like Alessi stuff but it is just too shiny, I get my grubby paws all over it and can't be arsed cleaning it all the time.

I think I am both rich and common as muck. Is a happy medium. You get to have plenty of money and spend no time at all worrying about what other people think of you. Is a win win.

IFancyKevinELevin · 14/07/2010 10:51

Forgot to add, as a paid up party member of the WC, I did breastfeed.

Well, I couldn't for the life of me find an Alessi steriliser and bottle set. Even on a visit to their home store on a mini-break to Milan.....

I agree Morloth be Elvis-rich. Loads of money and no cutlery, it really p*sses people off. Ever since I watched that documentary "The Burger and the King" I've loved Elvis.

Buy a huge house with Capability Brown style grounds and turn them into a Motocross or mini-digger play park for the kids.

ProfYaffle · 14/07/2010 11:57

I have no idea what Alessi and eternal bow are I do have a butter dish but it's Mason Cash from a charity shop. Even more as to it's potential class signifier.

expatinscotland · 14/07/2010 11:59

'Apparently only cheap hotels do that and some people would prefer to call room service and pay £5 every time they want a cup of tea rather than make their own.'

Yes, but that was BonsoirAnna's comment. You know how she feels about Britain.

Adair · 14/07/2010 12:15

British 5 star hotels still provide tea and coffee and kettle etc. But yes, posh hotels in other countries don't.

(Found this out cos dh was rather a fan of 5* hotels when we first met. He took me to Denmark, stayed in v posh hotel - no tea/coffee. I took him to a B&B in Blackpool- kettle and lots of tea and coffee and biscuits...)

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2010 09:20

Orm - it's Eternal beau.

I think that was on everyone's wedding list in the early 90s.

God I love lasagne and chips. With salad cream. Come on Expat embrace the carb madness.

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 15/07/2010 10:20

Is it? I thought 'bow' because of all the bloody ribbons.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2010 10:32

christ almighty you can still buy this crap

Yes, it's beau, I think it's a play on words (shakespearian, isn't it)

Adair · 15/07/2010 14:21

OMG I clicked on that link and my parents have those plates! I swear they got it from the co-op with points though...

Adair · 15/07/2010 14:26

(missed whether Eternal Beau/bow was WC or MC..)

scanty · 15/07/2010 21:54
