4 PEANUTS eaten by previously anaphylactic child on STOP study - there will be dancing in the streets!

Hello All

Back at Addenbrookes today as DD was struggling to eat the peanut butter dose. She is totally abhorrent to the taste and it was making her heave, it is so very sticky and cloying. Bleugh.

So, change of tactic and she went up today and ate 4, yes, wait for it, 4 PEANUTS!!

She still hates the taste, I am sure the body knows you know!

Anyway, all is well, slight stomach ache but OK other than that. Next step is the 11 Nov when she will have 10 peanuts!! DH and I will have run out of cooking sherry by then with all the nerves!

Isn't this a treatment though KM? So this is showing the treatment works? Which is good news I would have thought.

Surely it's very useful to the understanding of allergies and how they can be prevented/managed KerryMum?

I mean you can avoid peanuts easily ish, but what about people severely allergic to dairy?

I think this study sounds brilliant and really interesting.

kerry because its is a huge strain protecting your children from anaphylactic shocks + often prevents then fully participating in things like parties + picnics.

The study KM.It's looking to see whether children who are anaphylactic to peanuts can be desensitised so they are no longer anaphylactic.

Hurrah! I hope my DD grows out of her peanut allergy too.

She wasn't supposed to lose her milk allergy but she did - we were so amazed that we filmed her eating her first ice cream, aged 5yo+, she loved it!

Different protocol I think. Have a google, it's being run by Cambridge. NHS ethics is an utter nightmare so it must be seen by medics as having a good chance of working.

Kerry, your posts are upsetting me. My DD is not a lab rat. We are not getting her tested 'just to test it out'.

We are having her tested to improve her quality of life, to take away the risk of a fatal anaphylactic shock attack, to allow her to move forward as a confident young lady in the next step of her life, to allow her to eat out at restaurants with her friends and family and not be singled out as being 'different' to allow us to let her go to parties and not sit at home worrying ourselves sick, to allow her to go off on school trips and guide pack holidays.

FYI (if you had seen my previous 5 threads you may have understood better) the research project is being completed at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge under strict guidelines and extreme care is taken. We have been taking her for immunotherapy for coming on 9 months, every other week. We started with a nasal spray and worked up, 1mg by 1mg of peanut protein at a time.

Many MNers have asked me to keep them up-to-date with her progress. This is not a debate thread, this is a good news thread for people who want to hear good news and have hope for the LOs.

JimJams - the study is being done by the most amazing physician. This work was started at Duke Uni in Arkansas and we are so lucky to be part of it.

Hoping Tatt and Misi and JuneBug and the others arrive soon, they will be thrilled to hear this good news.

Any no Kerry, nobody died. A slight stomach ache compared to a full anaphylactic attack - are you winding me up?

This is an amazing step ahead in medical treatment for anaphylactic children. It is not for everyone but it is for us.

By the way, DD is totally thrilled.

Funnyperculiar - I was not there this time, she took DH but I will see tomorrow!

Bluebumed - I wouldn't waste your posting breath on such negativity.

Everyone is excited for you and keen to hear how well your DD is progressing.

Someone is spoiling for a fight and I for one don't want to see the thread diverted in that direction.
