Dh hayfever has got so bad he has a temp.

Dh has really been suffering with his hayfever for the last 3 weeks. He already takes 180mg fexofenadine, eye drops and nasal spray. He puts vasaline round his eyes and on eyelashes and inside if his nostrils. He has come home from work looking so rough I took his temp (ear) it's 39 so now he has a temp which I have just learnt can happen when the reaction gets really bad. He has a docs appt for Tues but is there ANYTHING else that will help? He never moans about being I'll but this is really getting the better of him.

DH is going through this tight now. We have an air purifier/ioniser in our bedroom which helps take the edge off a bit.

Thanks for replying. Funnily enough he bought this today and been using it. I have read that some people have success while others don't. How long would it take to work or is it instant if it works for you ?

Try finding a supplier of very local honey, a spoonful morning and evening may help. Sounds mad but it works in many cases.

DH finds that cutting his hair v short in summer helps. Don't dry washing outdoors

7to25- already short and it's just as bad when he is at work in his uniform :-(

Lie down flat on his back with a cold flannel on his face. Nasal spray and eye drops. Wait for the rain.

He probably needs a pharmacist not GP tbh.

Have a luke warm shower as soon as he gets home to wash off any pollen.

This has brought back horrible memories of 12 year old me telling my mate that her hay fever would be fine if we cut through the corn field mid summer.

She could barely see out of her eyes when we got to the other side. My dad smacked me so hard I could barely sit down for a week

One year I was suffering in a similar way, just nothing touched it and I couldn't function at all. Eventually the GP have me a steroid injection which was a magical cure but they don't like to give them out as they can cause bone density problems if given repeatedly.

Bizarrely, my hay fever also improved dramatically in subsequent years but could be coincidence.

Definitely ask the gp, it can be just so so miserable. Hope you see an improvement soon

Cool shower or bath whenever possible, even running wrists under cold water can bring the tiniest relief.

I'm assuming he showers before bed anyway, to wash off any pollen? Makes a difference, making sure there is no lingering pollen in your hair.

Massive sympathy to your husband. I hate hayfever, and mine is relatively under control at the moment.

Serious note my mates husband removed ALL body hair. Cropped head, underarms, legs and pubes. Said it helped a lot

Georgethehippo- the meds he has for his hayfever is for prescription only so it's only the GP who can alter his dose etc.

Purplehazel - he has been looking at getting the kenalog injection done privately as I don't think we could get it on the nhs. Can you remember if this is the one you had? Did it calm down quickly after the injection?

What's the kenalog injection please?
Can kids have it?

Change clothes and wash when coming inside from outside/ wear glasses or sunglasses when outside/ don't go outside if about to be a storm/ remember when symptoms stated this year and start meds at least 2 weeks earlier next year
My v bad hay fever improved massively when I moved across the country to an area with very different atmosphere and flora ( drastic but effective! )

I’m having the steroid injection for the first year next Saturday. I’m paying £50 for it privately as I ended up with dry patches on the surface of my left eye last year and I can’t go through that again.

I have a Kenalog injection every year and it has changed my life. I was so unwell with Hayfever and was having to take huge doses of antihistamines.
Kenalog is cheap to buy - was spending a fortune on antihistamines, steroid sprays, eye drops etc etc
Cool showers help me, slather myself in cold Nivea and Vaseline up nose and over eyes - really attractive !
Clean bed linen daily that has been washed and dried inside. Vacuum mattress at least once a week. Use antimite pillow
protectors.
Sending sympathy as it really can be miserable and impossible to function normally as concentration is so compromised . The Kenalog injection offered immediate relief ...within minutes - incredible.

Nobody'sfool I was just told it was a steroid injection so I don't know exactly what it was. The doctor got it out of a fridge in the surgery and I wasn't asked to pay for it although I do pay for prescriptions. This was about five years ago though.

He did say that only a few people each year in the practice are severe enough to get it but I was weeping and snotting on his desk which may have swayed him! 😀

Yes, very swift relief for the rest of that hay fever season but I wasn't ever bad enough to need it again, maybe coincidence but symptoms have got less every year. I now only have Beconase and eye drops.

If he was worse after work could it be something there is effecting him? He might be allowed to make some adjustments to his work environment if so.

With regards to honey, not me, but a friend with dreadful hay fever. Had injection but actually made things worse, so stopped. Started with the local honey about 5 years ago, no hay fever since. Maybe placebo but who knows, either way it has worked it his case, and can't do any harm to try!
