Is there any sort of pet a child with asthma can have?

Apart from a goldfish of course.

My dd has quite severe allergic asthma which flares up really badly on contact with dogs and cats.

She's an only child though, who adores animals, and I can't help but wish there was some kind of lovable pet we could get her.

We've got a fish. Not that cuddly!

I know you say your dd loves animals but do you really think its a good idea to buy "something with fur that wouldn't be too awful for a child with allergies" Is the animal for you or for your dd? Can you not get your dd one of those voice activated dogs which you teach? my dd has one and loves it.

imaginaryfriend · 08/04/2007 23:18

You are helping, lou, you're actually cheering up a particularly miserable evening for me.

Just cut the hairless dogs, ok?

pointydog · 08/04/2007 23:19

please post the bat, just for ash. And me. I'd like a laugh

themoon66 · 08/04/2007 23:19

Interestingly, I was allergic to fur when I was a kid. My mother went out and bought a dog (labrador), thinking she could keep it away from me. I cuddled it endlessly, sneezed, wheezed and coughed my way through the first month, then seemed to get over it.

Am ok with all furry things now

Drastic answer, I know.

lou33 · 08/04/2007 23:20

i wont even go downt eh hairless pussy route

stop making me

imaginaryfriend · 08/04/2007 23:21

Hillary, trust me, the pet is for dd not for me. She's animal crazy, goes nuts every time she sees a dog when we're out, etc. And I feel sorry for her that she's got such bad allergies she can't have a furry pet of her own.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 08/04/2007 23:22

lou, I'm not making you.

Hairy pussies are much more my thing.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 08/04/2007 23:22

Hairy pussies that don't make me sneeze that is.

ash6605 · 08/04/2007 23:23
