Surprise dairy & egg free finds - join me in making a list?

Hi -

I'm new to the whole allergy thing (DS is 15 months old & allergic to milk & eggs). As he's getting older I'm starting to appreciate how limiting it is and how lovely it is when he can have an off-the-shelf item that everyone else is having. So, I thought I would start a thread where we could list surprise finds we've came across (or in my case, that MN have pointed me towards!).

My (very short) list:

Anyone like to share their finds?

M&S has chocolate dairy free muffins which are great but have soya lecithin in them. They're in a really small 'free from' section. They also ave the dark chocolate mountain bar (like a dark choc toblerone) that's dairy and soya free.

All these are dairy, egg and nut free:
Tesco/Sainsburys/Waitrose Essentials Rich Tea Biscuits
Tesco Nice Biscuits
Mcvities Ginger Nuts
Lotus Caramelised Biscuits (in all major supermarkets)
Sainsburys/Tescos Hot Cross Buns

Our local Sainsburys sells:
Orgran 'Outback Animals' chocolate cookies - they are egg, dairy, nut, soya and wheat free.
Their own dairy free chocolate discs wrapped in gold and silver foil which are soya free.
Corn thins which are an alternative to large rice cakes but made of corn.
Chicken goujons which are egg free but do have breadcrumbs on.

We also have Dolmio Sun Dried Tomato Stir in Sauce (one of the other flavours - I think roast peppers? has milk in though so check the label on the others)

Milk, egg, nut free convenience food that really help us day to day!...

  • Waitrose Bourbon biscuits (aswell as many others but these excite me the most!)
  • asda's own brand ginger nuts and digestives
  • Warburtons fruit loaf and raisin loaf (hot cross loaf has milk in it)
  • Adsa smart price frozen mini sausage rolls (the more expensive ones had egg in them)
  • Birds eye fish fingers
  • smiley faces, potatoe waffles, mini waffles, birdseye chips etc
  • alpro soya chocolate desserts
  • walkers salt and vinegar/ready salted squares, salt and vinegar/ready salted crisps.
  • some kettle crisps mmmmm but £££!
  • Asda's own brand of pickled onion monster munch...think they are called monster bites. My DD LOVES them
  • salt n'shake crisps (and you can give them without the salt or half of it!)
  • dolmio bolognese jars
  • Heinz classic vegetable soup
  • Warburtons toasting muffins
  • Warburtons crumpets
  • Of course, kinnerton choc lollies and asda's choc and choc orange 'free from' buttons
  • swedish glace ice cream
  • coco pops

I am very excited about making croissants and pain au chocolat! I have bought shop bought pastry before and made home mad sausage rolls which were lovely but had not thought of making croissants or pain au chocolat! Yippee!!

I think this thread just goes to show that our DC's can have a really varied diet with lots of treats too...its the treats that are the killer, I hate seeing my DD watching other children eating things she cant have but there are so many things here that our DC's can have which appear "normal" iykwim.

Thanks everyone :)

We are a dairy free soya free house.
Lidl-
choco rice and choco moons (like coco pops but cheaper!) DF/SF

Lidl fresh breads (definitley bloomer and a few other) (most of the fresh baked stuff in other supermarkets has milk powder in) sadly we don't have a Lidl with an instore bakery near us!

We eat lots of the tesco own brand value range of biscuits but check every time out of habit.

Tesco snackers biscuits (like ritz crackers but not cheese although quite salty).

Tesco own range or cheap cherry bakewells.

Mr Kipling apple and blackcurrant pies (NOT the apple ones as they always seem to contain dairy whatever the brand).

Nature valley granola bars (ideal for lunch boxes).

Will think of some more later

I tried the Montezuma rose and geranium chocolate today - lovely! Thought I wouldn't like because don't like the smell of geranium in bath products but actually really nice :)

I posted this in the dairy and soya free thread, but in case you haven't seen jus-rol do a tube of croissant dough found beside their dairy and egg free puff, filo and shortcrust pastry blocks in the chilled section.
