Calling time on wine: 100 days sober - starting 01/01/26

1000 replies

reset100 · 27/12/2025 09:06

My wine drinking has slowly spiralled into a daily habit and I’m calling time on it. No drama, no rock bottom - just the realisation that it’s become a crutch and I want out of the swirl.

From 1st January, I’m committing to 100 days sober and I’d love others to join me. This isn’t about moderation or “just weekends” - it’s about a clean break and supporting each other to go completely alcohol-free for the full 100 days.

If alcohol has crept in as a daily default, if you’re tired of negotiating with yourself every evening, or if you simply want a proper reset with people who get it, you’re very welcome here.

No judgement. No pressure. Just accountability, honesty, and support.

I'd like to join. I'm a weekend drinker but have been off over the Christmas period and drinking most nights it really is a habit for me which I want to quit. I've read some helpful perspectives on this thread so thanks so far everyone.

Notbwinetimeitsmyprimetime · 01/01/2026 11:42

I've been for a long run in the dark this morning and feeling fresh. I love afternoon and day drinking (in addition to after work drinking...) so need to watch i don't try and reward myself. I can drink 1000 calories a night, so I'm not going to beat myself up for replacing the wine with posh ice cream (by the pot if needed!).

LMAlcott · 01/01/2026 08:36

I’ve ordered some good rays drinks and got some hot chocolate in. Didn’t have a big night last night but still have a slightly fuzzy head. Looking forward to feeling fresh and rested in the mornings!
In two minds about having a drink at my big reunion on Saturday… part of me thinks I’d be better off staying sober. Then on the other hand it’s a very rare chance to meet up with old friends and celebrate. Will add a day on at the end. Thoughts?

I wouldn't. I reckon you'd feel way more achievement if you stick to your guns early on 🥰

crackadawn · 01/01/2026 11:53

I would love to join please

Also been in this cycle of abuse with drink for years

Goandygo · 01/01/2026 12:05

@LMAlcott I'd try the reunion without, too. It might even be better for you. Can you see what af drinks are on offer at the venue ? I often do this. Then you're prepared and you could keep putting off a 'real' drink, til you probably no longer want one.

TwoNicePuppies · 01/01/2026 12:21

@LMAlcott Personally I wouldn’t drink at the reunion, if it goes past midnight that’s both Sat and Sun gone. I couldn’t have 2 days sober then 1/2 days drinking then back to sober in my app, to messy! I also bet you aren’t the only one there doing dry Jan or a version of! I’d play it forward to what could happen if you drink & it spirals, or if you don’t & you wake up fresh as a daisy & feeling smug on Sun (like I’m feeling now on NYD!)

edited as I tagged the wrong person, apologies!

LMAlcott · 01/01/2026 12:23

Yes I’m determined now
we are planning a long walk after lunch so not drinking the way to go – lots of lovely fresh juices and mocktails bailable at venue I’ve checked.

needastrongoneagain · 01/01/2026 12:28

Happy to join if that’s okay. I’ve drunk so much less in 2025, after basically self medicating with wine after DH had a life changing stroke in 2022. So I feel like I’m treading a path I’ve already started down, with a few wrong turns in the last year and a lot of learning.

Haven’t had a drink since Christmas Day, when I shared a bottle of wine over the big meal with one other person and spent the next day being sick - such has my tolerance been reduced!

There’s some great resources out there in the form of podcasts etc.

I’m at the stage where I’m not sure what even one glass of wine serves me (although I can now very easily stop after one, which is SO much further than I’ve ever got before), so 100 days sober seems a good goal.

Thank you 😊

EnjoythemoneyJane · 01/01/2026 12:32

Thank you for this thread @reset100. Could have written any one of these posts so I think I’ve found my people!

I didn’t drink last night apart from one sip of red wine as I’m not feeling great - in fact I suspect I’m run down after a whole year of relentless stress and upset, and a Christmas of non-stop drinking, late nights and running around after everyone else, so I’m more than ready for the reset.

I’m a bit nervous as April feels quite far off, but one day at a time …

crackadawn · 01/01/2026 12:34

Are there any apps people
recommend using

SwiftyFifty · 01/01/2026 12:34

I’m joining too. I resonate with every single thread in here. My problem is I’m all or nothing. I tend to binge drink one night ( 1.5 bottles) then feel so rough the next night I don’t drink. Then I do the same again each consecutive night! Hate myself and hate the hangovers thst make we want to hide away. I did 105 days a few years ago and after January I just felt better and better each week. I really need to get into thst mindset again as I felt amazing, lost weight, looked so much better, saved cash and was actually more sociable as quite often I will say no to things as I’m either hungover or I’ve shamefully already drank loads to would arrive half pissed etc.
I also have blood tests in a couple of weeks as my liver enzymes slightly raised ( not bad but also coincided with starting on statins) but an over zealous young doctor is sending me for all these blood tests as well as a liver scan ( booked for Feb1)
so fir me it’s a no brainier I can’t drink this month anyway but I want to recreate how great I felt when I did the 105 days! Good luck everyone I’m feeling excited about this

Flux1 · 01/01/2026 13:01

I'm in! Starting today

Happytosseyouafteralltheseyears · 01/01/2026 13:35

Happy New Year! Well done to all who abstained last night! I drank but paced myself but can’t believe I’ve woken up at 1.20 pm so bit of a wasted day. My reasons are to be more present for the kids as I can see they are questioning why me and DH drink most days. I’ve had a rubbish few years and have been existing rather than living. The other reason is health! I look like shit! And alcohol makes you have no motivation to do much the next day. The 3rd reason is money! I will need that to support kids through college etc. we’ll all from me. Enjoy New Years Day!

AutumnAllTheWay · 01/01/2026 14:02

Im bloody well in.

Day 1.

Higglea · 01/01/2026 14:05

I’m in! Drank last night, so done with it. Good luck all

scotsmumofteens · 01/01/2026 14:15

Also in! Here’s to day 1 xxx

Miloarmadillo2 · 01/01/2026 14:36

I’m in. We’ve done dry January for the last few years but I just slip back into old habits. I’m never actually drunk but we (DH and I) share a bottle of wine far too often. The 3am anxious peri wake up has been a huge problem for me and I know alcohol isn’t helping. I’m not sure about 100 days but you can all tell me in February all the reasons not to start again.

chatgptsbestmate · 01/01/2026 15:25

I'd be interested in a useful app to log progress

Also advice on a non alcoholic drink which is hot(spicy hot)/ginger/tingly.

Thanks all 🥰

SwiftyFifty · 01/01/2026 15:42

I like Dry Days app

chatgptsbestmate · 01/01/2026 15:43

SparkFinder · 29/12/2025 22:08

Well done everyone! As someone 3 years not drinking can I give you one tip? Approach the upcoming time with curiosity, not with a sense of 'going without'. Bring an open mind to what might come into your life, not just what's leaving it. And be curious about how and when you want a drink, what it feels like to not have one, what it feels like in the moment, versus the next day. Treat it like an experiment. It makes it a lot easier than feeling constantly like you're depriving yourself of something. And you'll be alive to the things that will keep you off alcohol if that's right for you after the 100 days are over.

Brilliant advice , thank you

I'm also searching for this. The closest I've found is double dosing ginger cordial in sparkling water, but it's heavy on sugar.

GinintheBin · 01/01/2026 16:48

I'm in! The gin is not in the bin, but has been safely consigned to the top of the kitchen cupboards where I can't reach it.

needastrongoneagain1 · 01/01/2026 17:53

This is really good stuff, for those in search of a gingery, fiery cordial that is not at all sweet. It’s not cheap - but, per serving, still a hell of a lot less expensive than booze.

My positivity has faded somewhat and I’m starting to wish I could have a glass of wine with dinner. BUT I am keeping @SparkFinder’s excellent advice in mind and telling myself I couldn’t possibly drink now, since I’ve only eaten about 350 calories today (5:2 diet). One glass would completely go to my head and I’d feel horrendous tomorrow!

LMAlcott · 01/01/2026 18:18

These are nice and definite fiery ginger kick!
