Calling time on wine: 100 days sober - starting 01/01/26

1000 replies

reset100 · 27/12/2025 09:06

My wine drinking has slowly spiralled into a daily habit and I’m calling time on it. No drama, no rock bottom - just the realisation that it’s become a crutch and I want out of the swirl.

From 1st January, I’m committing to 100 days sober and I’d love others to join me. This isn’t about moderation or “just weekends” - it’s about a clean break and supporting each other to go completely alcohol-free for the full 100 days.

If alcohol has crept in as a daily default, if you’re tired of negotiating with yourself every evening, or if you simply want a proper reset with people who get it, you’re very welcome here.

No judgement. No pressure. Just accountability, honesty, and support.

I’d like to join 🙋‍♀️ my old ‘drink free’ app tells me that I had 12 AF days in 2025, prior to that I did 3 AF months in 2020 due to medication. I drink 100+ units a week but rarely get drunk, have a high stress job that at times can involve a lot of socialising/drinking and am also spending way too much £. I’m very worried about my liver. In Dec I have read Allen Carr’s ‘Easy Way to control alcohol’, downloaded TryDry and have stocked up on Thiamine (vit B1) 500mg as this was advised by someone on the Alcohol Free thread which I’ve been following with interest for a few months. I took my last drink on 29th but my 100 days begins on 1st.

reset100 · 31/12/2025 09:17

Morning all, so lovely to see so many jumping on the thread and committing to the 100 day reset. I had an impromptu session with a friend last night and that me done now. So my day one is today and I’ll do 101..

Watch out for the sneaky lies around day 10-12

Your brain will try these tricks:

I’ve proved I can stop now
I wasn’t that bad
One won’t hurt
I deserve it..

Call it what it is: the addiction negotiating.
You don’t debate it. You move on.

Track the quiet wins

By week 3–4 you’ll notice:

Better sleep (deeper, calmer)
Less 3am anxiety
More patience with the kids
Clearer skin / brighter eyes
A sense of self-respect creeping back in

I’ll be writing these down..good to go back and read if/when you have a wobble.

Happy NYE all. Here’s to the next chapter!

The quiet wins should also include the cash bonus. If you use the Try Dry app it logs the tally as you go.

katinthehattt · 31/12/2025 11:07

Yes I’m in 🙌

Especially looking forward to better sleep and less anxiety / brain fog …. Oh and I’m desperate to get my love of running back.

Thanks for the lists and inspo on this thread already 🙏

That’s a great tip! I’m going to reset my try dry app and calculate the amount of money I save! 🤑

What are the best replacements? Trip? Dash? Mother Earth? Nosecco?

reset100 · 31/12/2025 12:36

@Unexpectedlysinglemum for me last time I did dry Jan it was lime and soda. I refuse to try zero alcohol as it’s not the taste I’m chasing more the buzz. M&S do a great non-alcoholic G&T and that’s the only one I can tolerate. I’m stocking up on Hot Chocolate as that tends to be my nighttime tipple/treat. Find what works for you - the craving for sugar is most definitely real so finding that sweet spot is key.

@reset100
I'll join. Thanks for the thread.
I'm actually on another thread on here, but it's more the merrier for me.
I managed 165 days last year, then went on holiday 😏 Christmas has been way more challenging than I anticipated but I've done better than previous years.
I felt great when I did 165 days, better than ever.
And definitely yes, yes, yes to reframing it as suggested by a pp. We think we're missing out, but we're really not.
Here's to 100 days 💪

I find scheduling a really early run (I usually go 5.45-7am) helps put me off drinking the night before too. I have to have everything ready or I'll stay in bed, but I feel great once I'm back which helps reinforce the not drinking aspect to. The issue for me are rest days - I basically have to run six days a week and pray that I won't reward myself with a bottle when the next day is a rest day!

reset100 · 31/12/2025 15:45

Let’s thinks about the ‘why’

Blackouts. Bad choices. That washed-out regret feeling the morning after.

What’s yours?

Wasted day afters.
A really bad fall last New Year which left me very bruised.

I'm on Day 6 now already as I'm determined to feel great at the start of 2026 instead of needing two days to recover.

OnewaytoRio · 31/12/2025 18:11

I’d like to join too. I always manage Dry January easily (mainly because I make sure I stay at home, so never challenge myself not to drink in a social situation) but then my old bad habits creep up. I’d like support to maintain it for longer than 31 days, and actually push myself to go out to events and not drink.

Thanks for starting this thread OP. I’m in, I’ve been drinking a bottle of wine a night for a few years, like others have said, I don’t really get much effect anymore. Extended family don’t seem to be enthusiastic about meeting up anymore and I’m sure it’s because of me…I’m a fun drunk but become too much and I’ve got a reputation. I’m worried about my health, I’ve noticed red palms which I’ve googled (palmar erythema) and I’m sure I’ve damaged my liver. I drink because I’m bored. I work in a stressful job full time and it’s my quick fix to unwind. I’m spending about £300 a month - including cigarettes (smoking has also ramped up, especially when drinking), I can’t afford it ….If I manage a week without alcohol I kid myself that I haven’t got a problem…I’ve read all the ‘quit lit’ and it resonates…sorry for the essay, thank you again for starting this thread x

Please, please don't Google.
It could fuel anxiety which can make the journey to cut drinking harder.
I've been there.
Please speak to a professional when you are ready to get a health MOT! It's the best thing you can do on the journey of a new healthy habit. Xx

Blackouts. Bad choices. That washed-out regret feeling the morning after.

What’s yours?

Losing sleep. Feeling guilty the next day. Worrying about my health. Acid reflux. Being overweight. Loss of fitness. Worse menopause and PMT. Awful arguments.

Onlymeandyou · 01/01/2026 06:42

Good morning. Happy New Year! Lets hope it's a healthy, sober one for the next 100 days! @reset100 there is some great advice in your list, thankyou. Especially regarding the negotiation. My downfall is quiet evenings in - one glass turns into a bottle far too frequently
So good to have support!

ThisIsMyBurnerPhone · 01/01/2026 07:10

Happy New Year! I stopped drinking after dinner last night, and enjoyed seeing the new year in without being drunk.

pickledsausage · 01/01/2026 07:18

I could have written most of these posts! The worst part is I’ve managed to go sober for extended periods - up to 2 years at a time then convince myself I’m fine and can drink every now and then. Before I know it I’m drinking a bottle of wine a night and feeling totally out of control with it. So please count me in!

I stopped 30th after a bad hangover - which I actually really needed as it wasn’t even affecting me anymore!! Apart from the energy levels. Looking forward to a spritely 100 days and beyond.

Have managed to get my husband on board for dry Jan too but he’s been drinking a bottle a night (plus) for years so I really hope he can stick to it too.

2026x · 01/01/2026 07:32

Can I join please? I drank a lot when I was younger but really reduced it in my late twenties and spent 10 years going to the gym, cycling and running (and not drinking much at all). Then I had my first child and I found it really hard to adjust to the restrictions on my life and my drinking has crept up since then. My eldest is 4 now and aside from when I was pregnant with my second I’ve been drinking pretty heavily, mainly as a way to escape to be honest. I need a big reset.

LittleMi55Nobody · 01/01/2026 07:39

i've got into a habit of drinking every day and now my body can't tolerate it...time to stop so i'd love to join in

chatgptsbestmate · 01/01/2026 07:48

I'm in. I definitely think going completely AF is a great idea. I dip in and out of drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine every other day......but I always feel dreadful the next day. Such a waste of time and money, let alone its not good for my health 🙄

Youdontseehow · 01/01/2026 08:10

Morning all and Happy new year!! @reset100 - just want to acknowledge you for starting the thread and hello to everyone on it.

I’m jumping in too. Not enjoying drinking anymore and even one glass of wine makes me super anxious and my sleep is awful. I actually stopped yesterday as I was home alone for NYE - DH working and I couldn’t be arsed getting taxis to go to friends etc. so I celebrated with Doritos and alioli, Haggen Das and an early night!

I’ve done long periods of being AF before but always end up slowly going back - a few drinks at the weekend, then adding in a Thursday, then a Wednesday……you get the picture.

I really want to go AF for ever but my brain is still not there yet. Hoping 100 days will give me clarity and reset my thinking.

For those looking for AF alternative for evenings - I love Three Spirit Nightcap. Very “woody” and gingery- feels like a proper adult drink. You can only get it online but I love it - DH thought it was horrible though so definitely not for everyone lol.

Here’s to us!!

chatgptsbestmate · 01/01/2026 08:14

Just adding up the dates....are we aiming for 10 April as our 100 day goal?

freshstart2026 · 01/01/2026 08:15

I was searching for a Dry January thread as I’ve found them really helpful in previous years. I couldn’t find one but came across this thread instead, so have decided I’ll commit to 100 days rather than my usual 31.

I’m feeling excited at the prospect of breaking the habit but also quite daunted, as I’m a bottle a night drinker (sometimes more). Also, I struggle with anxiety and don’t handle stress well, and alcohol is a form of escapism for me. The thought of not having that crutch to lean on is a bit scary, but I know I have to do this for my physical and mental health, not to mention my bank balance.

I’ll be starting the 5:2 diet today also, and getting back on my anxiety meds that have helped in the past. If I can stick to it (big if), the next 100 days should result in quite a major reset for me!

Youdontseehow · 01/01/2026 08:17

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 31/12/2025 11:23

What are the best replacements? Trip? Dash? Mother Earth? Nosecco?

I love the peach ginger Trip but it gives me heartburn. I really did not like Dash - tasteless yet still horrible!

My go to is Three Spirit nightcap in the evening and just plain old sparkling water in the daytime. Also a load of sleepy tea and coffee though. Need to cut down on the coffee I think as my sleep is terrible at the moment.

Youdontseehow · 01/01/2026 08:19

@freshstart2026 I’m going to go low carb/high protein starting next week. Need to use up all the potatoes, crackers and crisps first! I find that works well for me.
