Hello and welcome.
These threads were started by drybird in 2020 and have gone on to support many people to give up alcohol and live a sober life.
We are not a moderarion thread and only encourage sobriety. There is another long running thread if that's what you feel is right for you. Lots of support there.
We have newbies and veterans, some who have 5+ years under their belts.
We share life's up and downs (often why we drank) and no question is too silly.
Personally I gave up drinking three years ago. It's the hardest thing I've done and the best thing.
We call our selves sober sisters and even have a mascot, Sid the ship's dog.
He poses often for a cheer up picture.
We're not here to judge, just offer support and friendship.
It gets better I promise.

I spectated at London marathon today (came to support a friend who was running from my home country) and I was silently cheering you on too @Onewildandpreciouslife .

I hope your marathon went well whether it. Was London or Manchester.
Heading home on a delayed train now. So v tired 🥱

Onewildandpreciouslife · 28/04/2025 07:12

Morning all.
Marathon went well, but it was very hot! So grateful for the new life that being sober has given me.

mermadeincornwall · 28/04/2025 07:31

Morning my wonderful sober sisters on the good ship Sobriety.
I will not drink today.

Another beautiful sunny spring day to appreciate, not another day to start planning when I can sneakily start downing the first excessively large drink.

Love and kind thoughts to all.
What are you doing to show up for yourself today?

WendyWagon · 28/04/2025 07:57

Morning all.
Ahoy and all that.

First conference call today and a friend is popping round.
Nice and bright here.

Good afternoon shipmates. Cheery wave from me and multiple wags from Sid.

Congratulations on completing the marathon @Onewildandpreciouslife - I am in much awe. Sid and I went to our first cricket match of the season (a pre-season "friendly" with a notably unfriendly team. We won, down to the last over though, hehe) and it was almost too much doing the circuits of the boundary that Sid enjoys in the warm weather.

Hope the conference call went OK @WendyWagon.

@mermadeincornwall - I am trying to be more appreciative of the lovely birdsong that there is around and about at the moment. Not drinking today helps bring appreciation and clarity in the small things like that. I won't drink today either.

Strength and courage to you mes amies. Today is a nice day to be alive. xx

Morning all. Day 79 completed

Sun is shining. I am strong, everything is going to work out well.
Today I choose to see love

mermadeincornwall · 29/04/2025 07:00

Morning beautiful ladies.
I will not drink today.

I'm so proud of myself for doing this, and so proud of you all too.

Love and kind thoughts to all.
Throw love at it.

mermadeincornwall · 29/04/2025 07:28

Love Sid watching the match, looks like he's assessing how everyone is playing but in reality is he considering a sprint to grab the ball?🤔

WendyWagon · 29/04/2025 08:24

Ahoy greetings from the bridge.

Tired and grunpy here.
Long story but another arse of a man is jumping on my new work contract. I've said no.

However it's sunny here. Hoorah.

Good morning shipmates. @mermadeincornwall - I think Sid was focussed on a fly - he's obsessed. He doesn't understand balls (especially since a certain operation, of which we do not speak). 😉

Hello @Healthynow - you are like us! Welcome here, and doing our very best. Peach tea sounds lush.

Sid encountered the Kanine Krays again last night. All were on leads this time. Sid was prepared to be amenable; they were not. Potty-mouthed exchanges from the dogs continued long after Sid had been hauled away. God forbid the lady loses control of them. I had a nightmare about that last night. I woke up at 3am clinging to Sid, who was sleepily unamused.

But another day. Some more cute calves at work, the sun is shining and the birds are singing. Another good day to rejoice in sober awareness.

Strength and courage. It will be alright - even if it doesn't seem like it at the moment. xx

ShyMaryEllen · 29/04/2025 14:21

Morning chaps

I've been for coffee today, and the cafe had a sign on the door to indicate that it is dog friendly. It consisted of a picture of a French bulldog, and the slogan 'Sid Approved'. A few people were in the doorway, so I decided to take a photo on the way out, but of course I forgot - I'll try to get one next time.

Is our Sid is leading a campaign to encourage his brethren to eschew grape and grain, and imbibe 'drinks that cheer but don't inebriate'? Good for him, if so - flying the flag for shipmates near and far.

REP22 · 29/04/2025 15:21

Oo-er - I'd be very interested in a pic of that @ShyMaryEllen - he most certainly would be at the heart of any campaign like that, and proudly flag waves for us all. I'm not sure how he's got merchandising out there though, hehe.

He is half-Frenchie... I might have to start checking his internet history more closely... I can guarantee that this Sid would approve of that Sid ❤️🙂.

Here is our Sid with a flag of a different nature (military firing zone) disturbing his peace...

With love to you. x

Ooh thank you for the welcome.
marathons! Birds! Sids! So nice to read, somehow the normality of nice chat while you all get on with something difficult and testing, well, it feels very strong woman and I like that.
AF since Saturday! Talked to a friend who’s given up and told me they play it forward and imagine the weeks of hangovers that will ensue.
I love the chatty atmosphere here - inspiring, thank you.

Morning all.

I am so grateful for my sobriety
Today I will be present, grounded. I will take time to enjoy my day.

I will throw love at everything

Welcome @Healthynow

WendyWagon · 30/04/2025 06:37

Morning shipmates.
Mr Tiggle woke us up. He was on duty.

I've had a different visitor every day this week and I'm getting overwhelmed. I need a bit of quiet.

I have three different faux gins but I need to send the DH out for tonic. Elderflower wins hands down for me.

mermadeincornwall · 30/04/2025 07:14

Morning wonderful inspirational shipmates.
I will not drink today.

I can't control which thoughts come to me but I can control how I react to them, and chuck a large portion in the bin.

Love and kind thoughts to all.
Stay safe and sober.

ShyMaryEllen · 30/04/2025 08:28

My Little Rick CBD drinks finally arrived. I'm very tired because of insomnia, so I don't know if it's that or if the drinks are effective, but I did feel relaxed after drinking some. The Pina Colada one was particularly nice.

I know not everyone will be happy with the idea, but their website says they can be drunk by children, and they are well within the law, so I think I'll swap my AF win for a can of LR, which will cut down on sugar. I'll save the 'wine' for when I'm with drinkers and to have with food.

Someone else tried the LR drinks I think - what did you think of them?

EastCoastDamsel · 30/04/2025 08:29

Morning all.

I am absolutely loving this weather! The ☀️ is really giving me a lift.

So good to see everyone on here getting on with getting on.

I am WFH today and taking it easy (not out of bed yet!) though I really should be at my desk by 9am, I don't think it is going to happen. Might have to put a meeting in the diary so that I appear busy if others look on my Teams status.

REP22 · 30/04/2025 09:59

Morning Shipmates. Another beautiful day here. Sid was up to greet the bin men with his usual enthusiasm. He's a lot like me. We both like a man in uniform... 🙄😉

Sorry you're feeling a bit penned-in but your social things @WendyWagon - your "me time" is every bit as important (actually MORE important) as their "their time". Look after yourself. ❤️

I've not tried the LR drinks @ShyMaryEllen but they do sound nice. M&S did an AF Pina Colada fresh mix juice last year which was gorgeous. Off the scale on Slimming World points though, hehe.

Another new Highland calf has safely arrived. He looks exactly like Bungle out of Rainbow, the poor b~st~rd. Thriving well though.

Strength and courage. It gets easier. It will be alright. xx

taylorean · 30/04/2025 14:30

I hit my first 100 dry days in a row last night, 111 since January 1st! The first long stretch since I was pregnant, quite a while ago now.

I broke Dry January for a couple of celebrations, and after the second, just had enough.

I knew that I was done, and that I could just.... stop, and start the rest of my life.

I still have days where I'm sluggish, snappy and tired, but in general sleep better, am more energetic, and more on top of everything.

REP22 · 30/04/2025 14:40

That's fantastic @taylorean 🎉 Congratulations. I know it cannot have been easy.

It's so encouraging to us all. ❤️ x

mermadeincornwall · 01/05/2025 06:28

Morning fellow crew on HMS Happy Sober.
I will not drink today.

The present is a gift, and it's so much easier to be grateful for it when the sun is shining and I'm af.

Sending serenity and sunscreen.
Stay safe and sober.

EastCoastDamsel · 01/05/2025 07:30

Massive congratulations @taylorean . 100days is a big milestone.

👋🏻 @mermadeincornwall I love seeing your daily posts.

@WendyWagon I agree with @REP22 . Me time is so very important. I am getting better at being assertive about it and bowing out from.l commitments /events where I s just am not up for it.

Weather is looking very poor for this weekend.

WendyWagon · 01/05/2025 09:23

Ahoy shipmates.
We are up a bit later today.
