New thread for those of us attempting Dry January.

I've been sleeping much better but last night I didn't sleep well at all due to being angry about my ex. Although I am over the relationship, he gets under my skin. He treated me horribly when we were together but thinks he can force us to be 'friends' even though he doesn't even like my personality by his own admission! I can't completely cut him off because we have a 2 year old. I'm just sick of him. I am sick of him gaslighting me and telling me that I imagined his poor treatment of me and his patronising shit about how I should 'forget the past' because we have dd now as if that cancels it out! His ex wife and his partner before me are just as angry and hurt as I am about how he treated them.

iloverock · 21/01/2022 15:31

Despite the drama I haven't drank. I do have to go and see ex tonight. I'm not looking forward to that conversation. He is thinking it's just a little tiff and it can be fixed. I however am not.

Well done to everyone that has got this far. I didn't think I would !

hellokitty9 · 21/01/2022 15:54

@NorthernChinchilla

Morning all. Slept like a log last night. One thing I've found DJ helping with is that I'm looking forward to the weekend for its own sake, not as a chance to have a drink. Not to say that when DJ is over I won't enjoy a drink, but planning just on Saturdays with nice food as our date night Smile
I have found this too, it's nice to have a more laid back approach to the weekend, rather than thinking right I must be pissed tonight!! I find I have an inner peace with myself that I didn't know would happen!

Has anyone got the trydry app? It's really good! You give yourself badges when you avoid alcohol in certain situations, e.g. bad day, your birthday, meal out, funeral wake etc etc

Lushmetender · 21/01/2022 16:01

Friday night! I have sore teeth but dentist said the teeth look fine so what can it be? Giving me a dull throb in right hand head! Goes away temporarily with paracetamol but driving me mad!

Day 20. Surviving with AF sparkling wine. Our first social engagement will be 12 feb where going to stay with friends. We always end up drinking loads there as they buy the most expensive wines! I hope I can simply enjoy tasting without quaffing loads gallons of the stuff. Am starting to get twitchy for a chilled white! Luckily usually ok after food and soft drinks.

Hope all those struggling with partners/ ex partners resolve one way or another to mutual agreed terms. I feel old! Will have been married 20 years this year and have been with partner for ten.

Have a good night all.

It's not your wisdom teeth is it? I have this sometimes and it's because mine are impacted.

I use the try dry app, love seeing my days add up and the circle creeping around the month. It shows I have saved neatly 7000 calories and £110 in Jan so far!

CrumpetswithMarmite · 21/01/2022 21:01

Happy Friday!! I'm amazed to not be missing alcohol at all tonight and really enjoying AF. I'm starting to feel free from its hold. Smile

NorthernChinchilla · 21/01/2022 21:08

I had the energy to paint skirting boards this evening Shock Would normally be eyeing up G&T no. 57 2...

Keeping up with my walking, and feeling pretty positive!

iloverock · 21/01/2022 21:30

When do you stop thinking about alcohol?

Lushmetender · 21/01/2022 21:33

Hi not sure itsnotover - I had nerve pain years ago after birth of second daughter and lasted a good 6 months. This seems similar - not as sore yet but I’ve had it the past week to 10 days. Comes and goes. Wasn’t sure of glasses prescription wrong or trapped nerve in neck!? Really would have liked some wine! Still AF but bought 2 individual small bottles. Husband is like WTF but need to be able to have wine in the house and resist!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 21/01/2022 21:50

Evening all. I'm still feeling great and really not missing the alcohol. And not keen on starting again any time soon. I'm not saying I'll never drink alcohol again but I don't see myself starting come 1st February. It will be more difficult when DH starts drinking again.

Still going strong
Very proud of myself , and actually think I’m looking better , not so puffy in the face , and I’ve lost a bit of weight ( also due to the low carb Bootcamp )
Counting up how much money on booze ( well , wine really ) we haven’t spent is a bit shocking , I reckon it’ll be a couple of hundred quid between the two of us
The weekend is here 🍵☕️

Daisy829 · 21/01/2022 22:04

I’ve not heard of the try dry app. I’ll have a look. I’m having a becks blue tonight. They are quite nice.

pointythings · 21/01/2022 22:20

Had Fever Tree Clementine with a touch of Belvoir ginger cordial tonight, - very nice, has a real bite to it. I'm on the sleepy tea now though.

SantaMonicaPier · 21/01/2022 22:47

Quick check in and hello! Need to read back. Not missing the drink at all although might be harder when we see friends tomorrow. I was sorting laundry tonight which is unheard of at 9pm on a Friday night when I'd usually be on my second wine at least

wurlycurly · 21/01/2022 23:23

Evening all. It's pretty humbling to read your stories. Big up to everyone, but especially those going through upheaval or stress or grief without drinking. If you can do it, then surely I can! That's three weeks nearly for me, and most of us I assume. I too have been thinking about whether to stop for longer. I think I'll stay dry until early February. I've a holiday in Feb and will almost certainly drink then, but then plan to give up for Lent as March is looking like a social wasteland so far. I'm going to try to break the habit of using alcohol as a 'reward' so plan not to drink every Friday night, or if I've had a bad day etc etc. Night night

NorthernChinchilla · 22/01/2022 08:33

Morning all! Currently sorting the laundry and looking forward to getting decorating... not least as I'll have the house to myself Grin I know most people with young kids will understand, either through lack of family for support and/or the joys of the last two home-schooling, germ-ridden years!

Hope others have something fun planned. One advantage of not having a social life is no temptation when out or seeing friends, and respect to those who've managed it, esp pp with a birthday Smile

Daisy829 · 22/01/2022 08:42

@wurlycurly yes I’m thinking the same. Just drink when seeing friends not when we are at home. I was in the habit of drinking 3 times a week at least and generally a bottle each time. I have a night out on 11 feb but it’s a meal then back to a house for drinks so I’m contemplating driving then having just a couple at the house after the meal

Pikaso · 22/01/2022 08:42

Day 20 and rocking like a bastard hurricane

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 22/01/2022 09:08

Day 20 and rocking like a bastard hurricane
Good for you Grin

I'm on Day 20 too 🎉

Crunchymum · 22/01/2022 09:09

Nearly half a stone down, without any changes to diet. In fact I've been eating loads (but I'm very, very fat)

Arthritis is still flaring too and it's quite miserable but I'm still hanging in.

Family gathering today (in honour of my 2 poor January born children). As long as "mu" wine isn't available, I'll be okay. And I've made sure it won't be available.

Crunchymum · 22/01/2022 09:10

my* wine

Crunchymum · 22/01/2022 09:12

I hear you @NorthernChinchilla

I have 3 of the monsters. Sadly no time alone (until work on Monday) planned though.

Thankfully I do have wonderful MIL who is such a practical and emotional support to me. I prefer her to her son Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 22/01/2022 09:20

Grin I was like that with my first boyfriend @Crunchymum, he was a Grade A+ knobhead but his parents were great. Kept popping round to see them after we split. We shared the same views on ex-bf...

DH and I considered another, but we have our hands full with two... have read on here that the jump from 2 to 3 is the 'biggest' as it were (other than having your first, obviously) so I tip my hat to you!

Lushmetender · 22/01/2022 10:47

Hi yeah we have 3 but over the worse and love having 3 now. They still have some time at home yet. A post came up on my fb. Kids and husband must have been away but lamenting having tea in peace before they returned. Had 3 under 4 at one point and I was a late starter. Day 22 here. I had bought 2 175 mls bottles of wine but still there! Off ferrying kids to clubs today. I get 3 hours in the city which is good. Got a massive zit on my chin which is really sore. Not had one of those in ages!
