Dry January 2022

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/12/2021 09:25

Did Dry January this year and we had an amazing little support group going on here and I wondered if anyone cared to join me next year? This time I'm hoping to stay dry longer - 100 days - but will see how January goes first. I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Who's with me?

I'll join too please. Drank far too much over Christmas. I've actually started today - staying in with boyfriend and AF drinks NYE (that's the plan anyway)
Happy healthy 2022 to everyone

Breastfeedingworries · 30/12/2021 21:37

Place marking! :)

enoughisenough100 · 30/12/2021 22:36

Hope you don't mind me joining! Feel like I've had enough and need to start somewhere with so many failed attempts! Hoping to get some motivation if we are all doing dry January! So hard to stick with it, but hoping this is a good place to start.. we will see how it goes!!!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 31/12/2021 08:31

Urgh has too much wine last night and feel like crap this morning. I'm the only one working so everyone else is still in bed. I honestly can't wait to start DJ and hopefully my AF life - though at the moment never drinking again feels too much to contemplate in spite of my hangover.

Yes please!

IcedCoffeeMilkshake · 31/12/2021 09:03

Drank also last night so today is Day 1 and hitting DJ running (we hope).

Today's drink will be elderflower cordial with tonic water and loads of ice. Plus cake. Alot of cake.

Mykittensmittens · 31/12/2021 09:33

Yes for me. I’ve done it every year except last year and as everyone else says need a reset. It’s been a long Xmas holiday off work and my aim is after January to only have a drink Friday/Saturday. Wine is very expensive and calorific! I can easily drink a bottle - and at £7 a pop that would save me almost £150 a month (!!!)

Been here before - years go - (haiku nights, bath salts and Pollyanna moments if anyone can remember those!) and it was the support that kept me on the wagon.

I will be starting Monday 3rd and finish Friday 4th.

catdancer · 31/12/2021 10:07

I'm in! Glad to join you all from tomorrow. Did it for the first time last year and managed 70 days which staggered me to be honest, but slowly the consumption has crept back up. Still not quite as bad as where I was a year ago but not far off and what I hate most is the way thinking about drinking has taken over again. That was the biggest surprise for me last year... the freedom from thinking about drinking felt SO good. It's gonna be tougher this year as we won't be locked down but ready for the challenge (or trying to be!!)

H1Drangea · 31/12/2021 10:24

Ww have friends round tonight ( Covid tests permitting ) but won’t drink too much as we have to take DD to the railway station on Sunday morning , live rurally so it’s about a 40 minute drive and not doing that with a hangover / over the limit
I hate hangovers , so I know when to stop , following a disastrous NYE a few years ago when I reckon I had the worst hangover I’d had since before I had children !
Looking forward to the challenge , and the haiku nights and Pollyanna moments sound like something which could be revived as they sound intriguing @Mykittensmittens
Christmas was a long celebration here. DS here from 15 to 20 Dec, he worked over Christmas
DD here from 21 Dec , DH birthday on Christmas Eve …. Looking forward to some peace and quiet and plain food ! ( and no wine )

trydry22 · 31/12/2021 10:27

Feeling good this morning! Very much ready for this. I'm spending the de-cluttering and cleaning, off to see in the NY at the harbour and watch the fireworks. I'm positive about the year ahead which is definitely giving me. Much needed boost. I wish you all the best of luck on this AF journey 🙌

Willieekerslike · 31/12/2021 10:35

I had quite a lot of wine last night and I'm feeling rough this morning. I'd just had 3 nights off as well and was feeling great yesterday, got loads done. Last night couldn't resist the cold white wine in the fridge. Anyway, having some champagne tonight for NYE then that's it. I can't wait. Good look everyone and this thread is brilliant.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 31/12/2021 11:00

I went to a party last night and drank alcohol free lager. Was weird how many people look at you like what's that when you're not drinking Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/12/2021 12:24

Alcohol free lager has been my friend since I cut right back in October. I don't normally drink lager but find it entirely palatable and it serves its purpose well. I have never yet found a 0% wine that tastes even half decent.

I noticed that Tanqueray were promoting a 0 alcohol gin yesterday evening on TV.

Good luck to everyone!

This pretty much sums up how I feel both today (had a load of wine last night) and in general.

I want to be a non drinker but I am so scare of the thought of never drinking again.

In fact I am already wavering. I still have 6 bottles of "my" wine left (have loads of other booze too but that doesn't bother me, some bottles I've had for years and not been tempted to open) and I thinking do we just finish them over the weekend and start Monday / Tuesday. DP will drink them with me if I open them, but I'll consume more than he does.

I need to pour them down the fucking sink I think.

Once I get into it, I'll be fine but if I move those first goalposts I will struggle.

It has to be from tomorrow for me.

Elephantino · 31/12/2021 13:42

My plan is to start from tonight. We lost our dearly loved Dad a few weeks ago so will bring in the New Year together as a family at Mums. Will probably then go home as none of us feel much like celebrating.

How strange that it feels like such a difficult thing to do! I know I have had my fair share of alcohol this past month and actually am sick of it.

Good luck to you all, I'm hoping to manage the whole of January and maybe beyond, wait and see.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 31/12/2021 13:45

I'm sorry for your loss Elephantino. Look after yourselves.

Upyouranty · 31/12/2021 13:50

We took delivery of 12 bottles today that we’d ordered pre AF . It’s really fucking hard, two bottles of vintage champagne , some gorgeous Chablis.
In this house a full wine fridge is a challenge…..to get through it.

My resolve is strong 6 days AF today…and whilst my resting heart rate has been rising steadily all week Hmm… I’m two pounds down and I’ve been eating without limits.

All I’m thinking is, how lovely it is to wake up without the inner narrative in my head that’s always so negative and disappointed in me.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/12/2021 14:01

Sorry for your loss @Elephantino.

SquirrelFan · 31/12/2021 14:06

Woke up hungover this morning - still planning on a few glasses of champagne to see in the new year - am I nuts? Looking forward to the "excuse" not to drink. Also hoping to get some healthy foods in... for some reason I'm craving mangos! Good luck tonight, everyone!

MakeUsACuppa · 31/12/2021 14:28

I'm going to join you all in Dry January if that's ok, I've been steadily cutting back for the past few months. Just drinking on a Friday and Saturday, I don't weigh myself but clothes have been fitting much better.

I've drunk quite a bit the past week and so I've sickened myself off alcohol. I plan to drink tonight but I'm hosting so probably won't drink that much.

DJ starts tomorrow, I've downloaded the app and I'll see how I get on 🤞

JaquiRussell · 31/12/2021 15:17

I'm in, downloaded the DJ app.
Look forward to this thread giving and gaining support, 🤞🏼 everyone

H1Drangea · 31/12/2021 15:17

My condolences @Elephantino , we lost mum ( many years ago now ) just before Christmas, DGma just after Christmas and the other DGma the previous spring
By NYE we just wanted the year to be over and were in bed , sober by about 10-30
Woke up ( the DC were still very young ) to a glorious day and headed to the beach to blow some fresh air into us
💐for you

dementedma · 31/12/2021 15:20

Joining in. Some years I have managed dj, some years I havent. But I'll give it a go

Crunchymum · 31/12/2021 16:06

Sorry to hear of your loss @Elephantino

I lost Mum a few months before Christmas (last year) and that was hard enough.

Sending you lots of love.
