Dry January 2022

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/12/2021 09:25

Did Dry January this year and we had an amazing little support group going on here and I wondered if anyone cared to join me next year? This time I'm hoping to stay dry longer - 100 days - but will see how January goes first. I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Who's with me?

@Iamblossom I was going to say the same thing!! I'm on AF beer and AF wine topped with tonic, ice and fresh lime which is nice and refreshing. It's nice knowing I can enjoy a 'nice drink' that still has the dryness I like. But without these I am 99% sure I would have caved! Work has been so stressful I had an AF beer at lunchtime..! Somehow that still feels bad even with no alcohol in it!

Early night for me to finish day 11. I'm a bit shocked I've made it this far. Last year I lasted 5 days which was my record over the past 2 years I think. But I really want to change my relationship with alcohol and habits... So this is a good start I hope.

I think some point soon I'll re-write the list of why I'm doing this so I don't lose sight of it!

ChangeMustCome · 11/01/2022 20:51

Tonight I had run out of my usual AF drinks (ordered some but won't come til tomorrow). I had work, then had to get my kid ready for sport then I had to do a Zoom meeting. After the Zoom, I poured a G&T then poured it in a flowerbed in the back garden. Close shave! Now had a cup of herbal tea and am heading for bed.
Day 11 over, can't believe it!

whoopstheregoesmyshouldet · 11/01/2022 21:07

@Iamblossom I'm the same. Feel like I've just switched but seem ok after just one AF beer like that quenches they urge

H1Drangea · 11/01/2022 21:12

I’m liking the lime and mint squash that someone recommended earlier , mixed with sparkling water it’s very nice indeed
Surprisingly, not missing wine at all ( almost disappointed! ) and seriously considering carrying on into February and March to make 90 days
Day 11 finishing with a nice herb tea 🍵

whoopstheregoesmyshouldet · 11/01/2022 21:14

Where was lime and mint squash from? Sounds lovely. I need to get to Booths/ Waitrose and find nice, non sugary evening drinks. It's the ritual of pouring something you don't have in the day I miss. The "thank goodness. I can sit down now" drink

CrumpetswithMarmite · 11/01/2022 21:33

@ChangeMustCome wow yes what a close shave, that's amazing willpower to pour it away

Iamblossom · 11/01/2022 21:45

@ChangeMustCome ha ha that's funny, I nearly had an AF beer at lunchtime too. I guess even if we do now have an af habit, is that any different from having a Diet Coke habit?

@CrumpetswithMarmite bloody well done. 👏

Iamblossom · 11/01/2022 21:47

I think with habits as ingrained as our evening booze was we are allowed a harmless crutch so early on in our reset....

Iamblossom · 11/01/2022 21:54

gonna give this a whirl

PeacheyPeach · 11/01/2022 21:54

Day 11 DJ/day 16 AF in the bag. Hoping I will sleep better tonight. I seem to be having one good night then one rubbish night - last night was rubbish so 🤞tonight is good!

StarryNightSparkles · 11/01/2022 22:20

Hi everyone 🤗
Just checking in on my day 10 🎉 100% it's all down to the support of this thread so thank you all so much 💖💐
I notice slight improvements in my skin, nails, hair and the whole body puff is shrinking downwards. The only thing is my sleep is still off. Getting about 5/6 hours sleep a night but oh my it's lovely deep restful sleep 💤😴 noticed that I am much more alert and less anxious now. All is going positive so far which is great 😊

Yesterday after my first day back at work my first thought was to have a wine because work had been a good/productive day Confused so I locked myself in my bathroom and thought about my reasons for wanting wine/how it would make me feel once drunk and today. I quickly snapped out of that and had some fresh orange with lots of ice and a straw.

Still sticking with lots of self care, reading, healthy eating. Still need to stop making excuses and do some exercise. Getting a bit fed up with what I've been drinking so going to Google some AF drinks and mocktails for the weekend as a little treat to look forward to.

My feelings of carrying on after January are growing stronger if anyone would like to join me in a dry feb?

Hope everyone is doing well, keep going you are all amazing 💐

NorthernChinchilla · 12/01/2022 07:30

I'm finding myself slowly re-setting after two weeks off over Xmas. Its the longest I ever have off work, so takes a while, but I'm waking earlier (back to normal 6.30 ish) and slowly swapping the left over Ferrero Rocher/pate/etc for carrots with houmous if I want a snack.
DJ is definitely helping.
Got a range of AF drinks to complement the BB: there's some 0% Erdinger, got some of the Punk AF, and also got some Nosecco, because if we ever get round to exchanging on the new house I need something to toast with!

NorthernChinchilla · 12/01/2022 07:31

And only 8 more posts till we can move onto the new thread Ghast, I'm counting down Grin

canyon2000 · 12/01/2022 07:53

@StarryNightSparkles I'm definitely up for a Dry February!

Willieekerslike · 12/01/2022 08:05

I've got a night out on Thurs and I keep thinking about what I'll do. Normally would have red wine. Going for pizza. Feel if I don't drink it will be boring. I keep telling myself it could be a blip night and I can get back on it the next day. But then I'll feel crap on Friday and will beat myself up.

MajorityofThree · 12/01/2022 08:33

Day 12. Amazing. Really have not missed it so far (apart from the odd five mins when when I was cross). I think I'm definitely calmer which is probably because I'm sleeping better? And great that I can easily do the teenage taxi thing without being annoyed that I can't have a drink.
Not sure how/if to drink in future. One glass has never really cut it as that always leads to half a bottle. Enjoying having the excuse of DJ currently.
Now time to turn to sorting out some weight off and a bit/lot more activity.

itsacovidxmasone · 12/01/2022 08:34
@StarryNightSparkles I'm definitely up for a Dry February!
I went until end of April last year (end of March in 2020) and last year definitely reset my relationship with alcohol for the better. I'm with you for Feb!

Not sure how long I'll go this year but I love not drinking, I'm only 41 but finding even one drink often doesn't feel nice any more.

Day 12! Smile

CrumpetswithMarmite · 12/01/2022 08:40

Morning and welcome to Day 12! Had a dream last night that I ordered wine with a meal at a restaurant..! Clearly my subconscious hasn't quite given up yet!

I feel a lot better but wish I could say I don't miss it. It is my birthday this month and I keep finding myself questioning if I give myself a day off as long as I moderate it.

Will probably depend on how I feel. Ive come so far so equally like the idea of staying AF for it.

Youngatheart00 · 12/01/2022 08:42

My sleep and skin are finally getting better!

Seeing some benefits now, even though the cravings haven’t gone.

Well done all!! This thread really helps

Itsnotover · 12/01/2022 09:03
