Dry January 2022

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/12/2021 09:25

Did Dry January this year and we had an amazing little support group going on here and I wondered if anyone cared to join me next year? This time I'm hoping to stay dry longer - 100 days - but will see how January goes first. I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Who's with me?

I'm in! Looking forward to better sleep and being more productive.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 26/12/2021 19:51

Yes, I'll do it. I did it last year to reset my habits and it's a good idea. I only have a drink occasionally now and it's much better.

Ironicpentameter · 26/12/2021 19:51

I’m in. Always do Dry January and find it very affirmative. Then, I usually take a light break with a few moderate drinks early Feb then give up again for Lent. It’s amazing how the first quarter of the year makes me feel so healthy compared to the downward slope from early summer to the end of the year.
Will help with my weight loss, too, at which I’ve failed miserably …

Upyouranty · 26/12/2021 19:54

I’m in!

I’m starting already, I’ve made myself far to ill with drinking over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
My recovery is getting longer and worse and I’ve gained to much weight in the last year,

itsacovidxmasone · 26/12/2021 20:05

Did 3 months in 2020, 4 months last year and it definitely has changed (for the better) my drinking habits. Would like to beat that this year! I'm in.

It does get worse doesn't it. It takes me 3-4 days to get over a hangover now.
Upyouranty · 26/12/2021 20:16

@moochies
And I can’t get nothing done on a hangover day. My dc are adults but it doesn’t matter I’m still trying to ‘push through’.
It’s no way to live.

I’m bloody determined this time.

anne2650 · 27/12/2021 05:57

I'm joining - thank you. I know I have a problem.

Ratched · 27/12/2021 06:04

I'll jump in too please!
I realised I had a problem with alcohol a few months ago, so cut right back, happy with my intake now, but would like to knock it on the head completely to be honest.
I know I drink when I am angry, upset or pissed off (!), so January will be spent finding alternatives😁

angorarabbit · 27/12/2021 07:16

I'd love to join you. I try to moderate my drinking but I frequently fail and drink more wine than i should once I've started. living by myself makes it harder, would be good to have support.

IcedAbstinente · 27/12/2021 07:55

I drank over Christmas and am starting (re-starting) today.

I am about to head for Aldi (on the assumption it is open at 8 am!) to stock up on yoghurt and berries because I also intend to overhaul my eating as much as possible. 3 days of Christmas food has left me feeling heavy.

Brackenandbramble · 27/12/2021 08:23

I'm in too! I was on the thread last year and it went really well as there was such great support on here.
Good luck everyone and well done to those of you who have already started

Dulsesunset · 27/12/2021 09:10

I’d like to join please. I need to cut down my drinking and dry Jan will hopefully give me a kickstart on this.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 27/12/2021 09:14

I've decided to start today! No party planned for nye or anything and I have early starts this week at work, so may as well crack on!

Planning to download some quit lit on to my Kindle.

Upyouranty · 27/12/2021 09:39

@SarahJessicaParker1

I’m on it already. There is just so many reasons to put it off otherwise. I’ve got a drinks party tonight though and mr Anty and I are the ‘party’ couple so I just feel pressure but I’m determined to say no.

LesLavandes · 27/12/2021 09:41

I'm in

ImInStealthMode · 27/12/2021 09:45

I'm in! Getting married in the summer so Dry Jan (and maybe Feb/March) will be part of a general effort to move more, consume less, look after my hair / skin and above all save some money!

Telling myself that I did Sober October a couple of years ago which encompassed my birthday and another couple of big events, so I can surely do January without too much trouble.

BigMamaFratelli · 27/12/2021 09:49

I'm in. I do dry january most years and see it as a little re-set. I even roped dp in this year and he's up for doing it again. Although we've been gifted an impressive array of booze that will just be sat there looking at us. Still, I'm sure it can wait

SarahJessicaParker1 · 27/12/2021 09:50

Agree with you @Upyouranty! I may as well start or I'll keep putting it off for whatever reason. My classic is usually, "but I have to finish what's left from Christmas". Discovered yesterday that an open bottle of Baileys keeps for months in the fridge! There is absolutely no need to finish it right now.

Hohofortherobbers · 27/12/2021 10:03

@myghastisflabbered, how the devil are you? It's been a while! Will be lovely to catch up with you again for a dry Jan. Count me in

JamieFrasersSassenach · 27/12/2021 10:17

I'm in please - I sleep so much better when I don't drink and eat far less rubbish!!

So, theoretically, it should benefit me in many ways.

Will start either 1st or 2nd of January.

I actually love sparkling water - it's my drink of choice in the evening at home, so I will stock up on lots of it.

I will also attempt to read more, do more crafting and watch some good box sets on TV!!

Good luck everyone!!

Mamabear12 · 27/12/2021 14:33

I am in. Would be nice for everyone to post their benefits as they feel them from the dry Jan.....for example - better sleep, skin etc.

RedDingDongMerrily · 27/12/2021 15:18

alcoholchange.org.uk has a free DryJan app if anyone wants to tot up the £££ and calories saved.

Me too!!

Upyouranty · 27/12/2021 23:38

Ok - we went out and my friend had some gorgeous champagne….. but I said no thank you and drank sparkling water instead.

I had a lovely night and am now sat up in bed with tea and toast feeling so pleased that I will wake up in the morning and do everything I plan to do.

Sleep tight everyone ♥️
