Is it usual/typical for letters from parents to include 'when you are 18 and we meet again....' type stuff.

Letter from birth mum included a few 'wonderful future together' type references.

Putting aside the heart crushing 'she thinks I am babysitting' element (because that is about me not the girls) how would you couch the tone to your children?

Adoptedonceuponatime kicked this off I think, interspersing her opinions with tales of an adopted background that changed depending on how it suited her responses. She was up and down like a jack in the box until a few pages ago.

Stsaturn popped up to admonish us mortals, with a bit of help.

I am not sure how you score points though- so I have NO idea how many I have. That is where I got lost in all of this. Grin

I am a pointy head too. Sad

Devora · 25/07/2015 23:04

Well, you know how it is, Maryz. Wherever Kew is, there goes trouble.

I didn't realise that there were people who sat in the wings thinking how much they disliked me (and how boring I was).

Not that they've ever really posted. Of course the obvious answer is for them to actual start posting answers to people on adoption and then a good chunk of us can sit back and stop being annoying. Where were they when Suzanne was asking for advice a few weeks ago? Never mind maybe they'll be answering questions when she posts again in a few more weeks, or someone like her does.

The thing is - I agree I might had been a bit short when suggesting Suzanne used the thread she'd started before but I could already see cross posts between her and OP being (and I didn't think it was a good thread for her to be posting on being so open and inclusive and warm and fuzzy n'all)

cross posts between her and OP being misinterpreted

Kewcumber · 25/07/2015 23:13

I like my picture better - more flattering

Am I being dozy though - has anyone else heard aor called anyone a pointyhead before? Confused

It not a saying I've ever come across.

Devora · 25/07/2015 23:16

Yes I have - it means brainiac. As in, "He may be a pointy-headed policy wonk, but he sure knows how to party".

I agree; it's a very odd feeling that there's silent watchers loathing us...

Bloody hell I don;t use long words! I mean, I used opine but it's not really very long and surely you don;t need to look up the meaning of "to opine" you thickos

WEll your three are all of age now aren;t they... maybe you should sugegst it?

There were two women next to us in their 20's at the film - no kids in sight (unless they'd parked them somewhere else)

Personally I miss seeing the odd film where someone takes their clothes off - I'll trade you Frozen for something more raunchy anyday

Kewcumber · 25/07/2015 23:40

Oh my, I came to bed for an early night and have spent at least 2 hours reading this thread. Feel a real sense of achievement to have got to the end. Glad all is more peaceful now. Don't normally see bunfights like this except on the step parenting forums. Anyway, I love all you pointy heads and the support and knowledge and perspective you share. Goodnight!

slkk · 25/07/2015 23:45

Oh no, you're still posting. I'll have to keep reading!

tangerine, words fail.

kewcumber...thickos? right back at you. the word "opine" is lovely. it is not the word which is the problem, it is the context in which you placed it.

peaceful, slkk? Inflammatory, childish?

AIBU is a walk in the park in comparison.
