Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

Yay! The man from the ministry who rips off the bits of ribbon is back from holiday...

For those few of you who have been following my snail-paced adoption. The man from the Ministry of Foreigh Affairs has found my file stuck behind the back of a radiator, dusted it off and passed it on to the next bureaucrat in line. So its progressed to the Ministry of Education. Hurrah!

Now I wait for a travel date and confirmation of where in Kazakhstan I'll be travelling to - most likely Ust-Kamengorsk in October 2006.

This is the first good news I've had since my file disappered in early June!

Hurrah! (Have I said that already? - what the heck I'm going to say it again...) Hurrah!

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/10/2006 13:37

We are destined never to meet MrsJC!

The precious letter is due to arrive NEXT monday and I have already booked my flights for Tuesday so keep your fingers crossed that it arrives with enough time to get my visa and fly Tueday afternoon!

Thought if I booked my flights that it would make it happen!

arfishymeau · 10/10/2006 14:00

Hi SueJz. Am still following your progress from Sydney. Fingers crossed that it all goes well for you.

Do you think you've had the longest labour in the history of mumsnet? I thought that my 32 hours was a winner, but I think you've beaten me now

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/10/2006 14:42

amongst my adoption friends I am known as the Black Alpine Salamander - gestation period about 3 years (though I'm not quite there yet, unless you country fertility treatment too when I shoot way over it!)

KristinaM · 13/10/2006 10:47

ok sue, thats been several days now, what's happening? can we assume no news is good news?

KristinaM · 13/10/2006 10:49

this isn't how i pictured you...

salamander

TutterIckOrTreat · 13/10/2006 10:52

sue, only just seen your latest news. good luck - will be offline til monday but hope to hear good news when i get back.

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/10/2006 18:33

I'm not that pale - this is a better photo of me me

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/10/2006 18:36

and sadly no news is bad news. the man from teh ministry has not issued the necessary letter, says he is not going to do it on Monday and won;t say when he is going to do it.

The theory is that he is pissed off with our coordinator who went over his head to make him issue them in the first place and now he's being difficult about how long it takes him.

Now have absolutely no idea when I might travel, I think instead I will go for a nice lie down and a nervous breakdown.

Judy1234 · 13/10/2006 19:20

Best of luck with it. Bit off the topic but is Madonna adopting in the US or UK, does anyone into adoptions know?

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/10/2006 19:23

no - the man interviewed from BAAF was very cagey about it on Radio 4 this morning. Theoretically if she is habitually resident in the UK she must follow the UK system (which required home study CRB checks etc) but it has been known for US citizens to "forget" they're resident here and go via the US which in theory has a similar system but in ractice is much quicker and less involved.

Long answer just to say - don't know!

TwigTwoolett · 13/10/2006 19:24

oh sue .. sorry to hear that

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/10/2006 19:28

oh buggery bollocky boo - as my mum said

KristinaM · 13/10/2006 23:18

oh sue I'm so so sorry. Bl**dy bureaucrats

oldnewmummy · 15/10/2006 09:39

So sorry to hear that, Sue.

april74 · 15/10/2006 09:46

Sue I am really sorry to hear of your problems, it must be so frustrating waiting to go at any seconds, hope it works out for you very soon.

beemail · 15/10/2006 11:55

Not sure whether US or UK. However there has been no mention of a homestudy having being completed...........I've looked and listened but not once has THEIR homestudy been mentioned. I do find it all very galling - it's made to look soooooo easy and with litle mention of the feeelings or needs of birth family, contact issues etc Also I don't think (could be wrong) that they have commented on the adoption themselves for whatever reason but you would think if it was all above board she'd be anxious to say so.

Sue - so sorry to hear of your delay. Are you working still, do you have other things to distract you - in my expeience it does help but I do know how awful these delays can be and how powerless you can feel when it's all going on thousands of miles away. Good Luck
I'm amazed the Malawian govt have allowed "the loopholes" but it doesn't sound as though there is much foreign adoption from there.

Yes saw the news last night - no homestudy . Poor little boy.

How are you Sue?

suejoneziscalmernow · 16/10/2006 12:05

Cheesed off, but thank you for asking

Bloody madonna's bloody adoption couldn't have come at a worse time for me as if its not enough dealing with the random uncertainties of overseas adoption (for normal people that is), I have also had to deal with the "Oh just like Madonna" comments. Yes just like that only slower and more consodered with a bit more preparation, oh and did I mention SLOWER!

On the upside, I haven't been expecetd to build a school. Though come to think of it, maybe thats what they're waiting for...

suejoneziscalmernow · 16/10/2006 12:06

wonder if they'll have to wait 6 months for their home study to start like the rest of us?

cocopopshater · 16/10/2006 12:15

well, when I read the Madonna reports, I thought "oh, just like Sue!"

suejoneziscalmernow · 16/10/2006 12:16

lol cocopopshater - makes all the difference!
