Yay! The man from the ministry who rips off the bits of ribbon is back from holiday...

For those few of you who have been following my snail-paced adoption. The man from the Ministry of Foreigh Affairs has found my file stuck behind the back of a radiator, dusted it off and passed it on to the next bureaucrat in line. So its progressed to the Ministry of Education. Hurrah!

Now I wait for a travel date and confirmation of where in Kazakhstan I'll be travelling to - most likely Ust-Kamengorsk in October 2006.

This is the first good news I've had since my file disappered in early June!

Hurrah! (Have I said that already? - what the heck I'm going to say it again...) Hurrah!

How exciting - best of luck, I'll be following your story. I was adopted at birth and feel very lucky to have grown up with such a wonderful family. I'm sure your child will feel the same in 40 odd years!

How's the paperwork going/

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 10:49

Almost done - just have to get medical, employers letter and CRB checks apostilles and wait for Letter of invitation to arrive so I can get visa.

I laid everything I'm taking out in the living room last night (wild saturday night in!) - then looked at suitcase. Hmmmm, some replanning needed I think...

arfishymeau · 10/09/2006 11:50

Ooh SueJZ. So exciting! I can't believe you're going to be off so soon. Only the small mountain of paperwork to get over then you'll be on your way .

If it helps I had to do our Australian visa application from Germany with my paperwork in the UK along with a DD with a broken foot (flying back to UK for medical nightmare) and we got through it all. How we look back and laugh

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 11:53

Am looking forward to the looking back and laughing bit...

shimmy21 · 19/09/2006 10:31

What's the news Sue?????????
Have you got time to squeeze in an update for us admid your mountains of paperwork and packing for two?

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 17:08

Current news is that my travel date is entirely dependent on getting one vital piece of paper from the region I'm travlling to in order to get my visa.

I was scheduled to travel on Tuesday but no letter yet so that date is likely to slip. I';m getting dailt updates form my agency at the moment but Tuesday isn't looking promising.

It's like being 3 weeks overdue with a pregnancy ... I'm ready NOW!

shimmy21 · 20/09/2006 20:05

Oh blimey Sue, I bet you can't concentrate on anything except that bit of paper at the moment. But remember how far you've come already and the bits of paper will all seem so irrelevant when you are finally holding your own child in your arms.

KristinaM · 20/09/2006 20:44

Just to say I'm thinking of you sue. hope you get teh letter soon and that your travel plans are confirmed. most importantly, I hope you are led to your child and that everything thereafter goes smoothly

suejoneziscalmernow · 22/09/2006 12:37

Bad news about the visas . There's a new woman at the local ministry who thinks that all the documents must be current in order to issue a visa letter. Normally you hand carry those which have expired with you and submit them to court when you get there. So have had to rush out this morning and courier medical, CRB checks and employers letter to kazakhstan.

They won't get there until mid next week, need translating and submitting to Ms Jobsworth before she will consider issuing letters, then 7 working days to actually issue them then a few days to get visa.

So it looks like it could be another 3 weeks before I travel

Tutter · 22/09/2006 12:39

sue i have no idea how you're coping with the waiting. sorry to hear the pen pushers are delaying things for you. hope it sorts itself out soon.

suejoneziscalmernow · 22/09/2006 12:43

Tutter I have discovered a perseverance and fortitude I never knew I had. But frankly could have done without having to discover it! I was told at the beginning of this process that intercountry adoption is a self-selecting process - ie prospective parents weed themselves out because they can't take it any more. They weren't kidding it seems.

KristinaM · 23/09/2006 00:42

oh sue I'm so sorry

beemail · 23/09/2006 21:32

Really can sympathise with the waiting for jobsworths! We had more than our fair share of that third time round. Some court official who wasn't taking any adoption cases because he didn't know how to process them and was too proud to ask! Sounds like this could be quite a short delay though - hope it all gets moving soon. Meanwhile expect you're slaving over those Russian books!

KristinaM · 26/09/2006 22:56

whats the news sue?

april74 · 27/09/2006 17:28

Sorry to hear about your problems Sue, must be frustrating. hope it all happens soon X

suejoneziscalmernow · 28/09/2006 10:22

No news yet - waiting to hear if letters have been issued and what my rescheduled date is. Don;t expect to hear until next week.

KristinaM · 28/09/2006 10:43

ok sue. will be checking this thread for your newss so be sure to post. thinking of you... I knwo its such a hard time, knowing your child is out there waiting for you and you cant hold him/her in your arms

beemail · 28/09/2006 21:50

beemail · 01/10/2006 14:58

Best wishes Sue!!

Look forward to hearing all about your little girl/boy

KristinaM · 02/10/2006 22:53

what's happening sue? any news? how are you getting on with your packing etc?

suejoneziscalmernow · 07/10/2006 18:42

Found out Firday - all documentation has been resubmitted and the vital letter of invitation applied for. The letter should arrive a week Monday, then I need to get a visa. There is a flight Tuesday night and though it is cutting it a bit fine, I'm aiming for that one. Really depends on the letter arriving Monday. Otherwise it'll be a fortnight today.

beemail · 07/10/2006 19:39

Great news Sue - fingers crossed for you
