Welcome everyone to Autumn Writing. Post your targets to be done before Christmas. Small or large!

Mine are:

1. Submit paper 1
2. Full draft of paper 2 (including a LOT of analysis)
3. 5 out of 8 HEA fellowship tasks done
4. A decent start on an ethics application - enough to show to senior people in January

I'm research only and have no grants to write this term so should be doable if I don't procrastinate. Aiming for 25 pomodoros a week writing (so 12.5 hours).

I have a book chapter to write and two articles to finish. As I said on the other thread, I have had serious writer's block. I need to get over it.

Not sure what I am aiming for to actually achieve this, probably the first thing I need is a (revised) plan with deadlines.

Have you started the book chapter? How much time could you (realistically) devote to writing a week?

Yes, I have all the research and spent a day planning and writing last week.
Realistically, this week I will have maybe 10 hours, next week 15.
I honestly think i should have a draft by then. I used to be able to do this!

I need to analyse 3 sets of data so they're ready for write up post-xmas

Thanks for the thread! I have stupid targets but I am going to go for them.

1. Finish an article by November 1st.
2. Finish an abstract by November 1st.
3. Finish book chapter draft no. 1
4. Finish book chapter draft no. 2
5. Write book chapter no. 3
6. Draft (?) book introduction.
7. Write invited talk (wheee!!! first invited talk!!)

Current plan is for about 10 hours of office time during the week, although some of that will be catching up on marking because the rest of the time I'll have the baby and I wouldn't like to bet on getting all my marking done with her on a bad day. Then I'll have Saturday when I suspect I will go in (terrible work/life balance, I know, but I will make it enjoyable).

So, I think I'm totally bonkers but I'll give it all a go.

We are on! Here goes...
Finish current chapter by 8 Oct.
Chapter 2 finish by 28 Oct
Chapter 1 by 10 Nov
Chapters already written but needing revision & updating (4,5,6,7) by 30
Nov - impossible target, unless I meet the above ahead of time.
December intro & conclusion

yoga, you are I seem to be doing the same stuff! Good luck!

TOday (one of my half days) I managed two hours writing so I am pleased. Tomorrow I am in 9-4 and I have NOTHING else in the diary. Hoping for 12 pomodoros (= 6 hours) of solid writing on paper 1. It's so nearly there!

I only got to the office at 14.20 today but I've had a solid hour of writing and am making progress. Yay!

OK I'm in:

1. Grant application due 1st Oct (nearly finished)
2. Manual for our technique that we have a book contract for (!). I'm timetabling 1 hour per day in 2 slots (I use pomodoro to stop myself doing rubbish going on MN at the same time as pretending to write.
3. Finalise and submit paper that ex-PhD-student-1 has not quite finished, and has vanished.
4. Write first draft of paper that ex-PhD-student-2 has not even thought about starting.

In the office. Baby asleep. Long may it continue!

Coffee in mug, timer on for grant application first bite.

In library. Slow start due to school biz. Starting work on a new section today. I'm a quarter of the way through my reading & notes for today...

I didn’t manage six hours, but did manage three. Going to try to do one more once dc asleep.

Four hours in the list again tomorrow. I’m so fed up with this paper. it’s been “nearly done” for almost a year. Gah.

I managed an hour with the baby, some of it quite distracted (! ) and then four good hours.

Btw, big, isn't the last 10% always the bit that takes as long as the entire rest of the project?! It is for me.

I did about 2 hours on the grant which is now provisionally finished. Sent it to co-applicant for final check then submit tomorrow. I'm already in the "that wasn't so bad let's do it again" zone that leads people to have a second child...

My goals are:

1. Finish ethics application and submit the bloody thing (since the PI is not doing it)
2. Revise and resubmit article to Important Journal by end Oct
3. Write and submit BA small grant bid
4. Write draft of other journal article

I didn't finish the reading. 80%
6 hours work. If I can finish the section I'm on by Friday I'm on track

Today: finish reading, plan next section, and hopefully write some/all of it.
Baby woke at 3 and 6, disturbed sleep in between. I'll be working through fog by 3pm

OK, back to the manual - 2x 1/2 hour on that
Also have some teaching prep to do - mainly getting videos to work in a powerpoint. Not my forte! But it's a 1st year lecture, general stuff, so the outline is there or nearly there, just fiddly/non-thinking work now.

Right my 2 x pomodoros done...
Off to wrestle with video formats. Send out a search party if you don't hear back...

I'm just starting to write. Focus focus focus I have 2.5 hours. Aiming high at 2000 brand new very clever words ...

I'd be happy if I'd written 3 very clever words today I think.
