I've done it before in Ireland where you mostly pay afterwards. I'm used to paying up front and so forgot to pay.

That's how you forget to pay. Or how I did, anyway.

random · 22/07/2009 12:06

I wouldn't go back and pay

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 12:07

Why is the fact that someone has a poshish accent (I take it that is why she is described as Sloaney, not because she was wearing pearls and a pashmina) an excuse not to pay?

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 12:09

becuase she irked me by correcting me

adn by shwishing everywhere.

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/07/2009 12:11
Hmm
ItsAllaBitNoisy · 22/07/2009 12:14

If she swished, I wouldn't have paid either.

Hate swishers.

Trashbat · 22/07/2009 12:14

I have done worse than you when tackling snotty waiting staff in a restaurant - I once took the pepper and salt grinders because I was so irritated at being (wrongly) corrected by smug twat waiter who clearly had no idea how basic foods are pronounced. Which is fine, but he had no need to correct me in a mighty patronising way, when I was in the right.

However, these days I am plagued by guilt when I do wrong, so would probably have gone back and paid.

hercules1 · 22/07/2009 12:14

Have I missed something? Of course you need to pay. You havent given any reason why you shouldn't. It's not particularily moral to go back and pay for it.

ZZZenAgain · 22/07/2009 12:16

was it good coffee?

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 22/07/2009 12:17

I used to work in a department store. We got a letter from a little old lady (judging by her hand-writing only) who had taken the top off one of those cheap glass salt sellers, the plastic bit. She had put e5 in an envelope and apologised, said she was wracked with guilt.

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 12:17

Pay next time you are passing - keep a note of the date and what you had.

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 12:23

LOl.
I was only kidding about not paying.I am sadly honest - even go back into stores to pay when the kids used to snaffle things.

ZZZenAgain · 22/07/2009 12:25

hmm the snotty swishiness is bugging me a bit. When she did the "oh you mean ber -klah vah" bit, why didn't you ask her "oh where are you from then (in very slow English in a loud voice), in the UK we call it....." or something.

ZZZenAgain · 22/07/2009 12:27

if the halo fits, wear it

ZZZenAgain · 22/07/2009 12:27

goe with everything really, doesn't it?

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/07/2009 12:28

So drip IABU summary

Sloaney
Baklava pronounciation correction
Swishingness

What else can this woman have done to deserve non payment?

She was wearing crocs?
She needed to pluck her eyebrows?
She sniffed and wiped her nose with the back of her hand whilst serving cake?

More ammo needed

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 12:30

LOL. I WAS ONLY KIDDING!
i am rather confused as to how I forgot to pay. I rememebr walking out...that is all.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 22/07/2009 12:34

Forgetting things is easy. DP once forgot to take his money out of the cash machine. Now that is bizarre, the cash is the whole reason you are standing at the machine in the first place. It's like if you went to a cafe and paid but forgot to eat your coffee and cake, just put them down and walked out.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/07/2009 12:34

Me and DP walked out without paying after a pub lunch couple of weeks ago - he thought I had paid and vice versa.

Drove back like a bat out of hell very shame faced.

They didn't even notice that we had gone just thought we were in the loo (what, together?!)
