OK mag: Jade "memorial issue" complete with year of death on front cover......how tasteless is this??

I mean, in the context of producing a memorial issue before the poor woman has even passed away? Seems like a pathetic attempt to continue to be "first with the news".

I have been through the experience of watching and waiting for death of a loved one from cancer. It can be a protracted and painfully long process - even when the doctors do say there are only "days left" it can turn out to be longer.

Who do they think they are appealing to with this awful "scoop"??

lets not forget that its the gutter press that have made her career

SoupDragon · 18/03/2009 13:42

Gosh, yes SGB. Utterly hilarious

popperdoodles · 18/03/2009 13:45

I saw this too this morning and thought it was totaly out of order. I have been reading things about her illness because rightly or wrongly I am interested. Not because it is her, just because dying is something people don't usually talk about. It is interesting to see how they are coping in such a sad situation and keep asking myself what would I do if that were me. I hear there is going to be a book all about her cancer battle too.

nancy75 · 18/03/2009 13:45

sgb i have to admit that i have had similar thoughts, although i think it has gone abit far now for that. however i think its naieve to think that agents like max clifford have no say over what gets printed in newspapers. most of the shots of jade have clearly been set up, and the endless updates are clearly coming from somebody - i doubt if the press have her house bugged.

knightsofcovonia · 18/03/2009 13:45

Yes they have made her career, and she has used them to her best advantage, making a living just like the rest of us.

smallorange · 18/03/2009 13:46

Well I suppose she had all these exclusive deals tied up with OK! and they have to use the copy and pics now as next month her death will be 'old news.'

They probably have a really good spread waiting on Kate Garraway's latest pregnancy or summat for the following month. Want to get the Jade stuff out the way as the public are getting bored with it.

I suppose Jade's Death is just a natural extension of the whole birth/christening/wedding/divorce/birth/christening/new wedding/mydrugshell culture which generates millions for Goody, OK and the like.

I think Melanie Chisholm (sporty spice) got her baby on the front when it was still pratically wet from the womb.

It all makes me want to puke.

JeanPoole · 18/03/2009 13:52

sporty spice?
i didn't think she was into all that sleb mag bs

solidgoldbrass · 18/03/2009 14:00

I think laughing is a perfectly reasonable reaction to someone not dying despite all the predictions that they are going to. Particularly when the not-dying leaves a shitty magazine looking very foolish.

GypsyMoth · 18/03/2009 14:04

They all have the great excuse now of 'doing it for the childrens future!' ... We'll see allsorts of unsuitable and controversial photoshoots and articles being promoted in these mags from now on.......just you watch!! All in the name of 'securing funds for the future' of course in case bad taste is suggested

smallorange · 18/03/2009 14:15

I agree SGB.

JeanPoole · 18/03/2009 14:24

i did feel for poor bobby at the wedding he looked so over whelmed with it all.

such sweet boys

wannaBe · 18/03/2009 14:32

she wants her funeral to be televised fgs.

here

"Large screens outside her funeral service will be televised to a throng of fans expected to turn out outside, in the biggest out-pouring of public grief
since Diana."

I do not buy the line that she is "doing it for her boys". They are not living in poverty, they have a father who will be supporting them financially. She is doing it because she can't live without it, but admitting that isn't going to earn her much respect so better to sell your death in the name of doing it for your children...

Max clifford is perfectly capable of keeping this stuff out of the press. One of the things he does is to keep people out of the media who don't want to be there. Anyone who thinks this is a one-sided onslaught from the press is naive. She wanted the publicity, she's got the publicity. The public will know before her sons do when she dies. if she dies..

GypsyMoth · 18/03/2009 14:36

Oooh wannabe, well said, but what to you mean by 'if' she dies?!

smallorange · 18/03/2009 14:37

yes - what if she rallies? Lingers on for another few months? What would they do then?

JeanPoole · 18/03/2009 14:39

so did you think the grief for diana was ott then?

pud1 · 18/03/2009 14:41

well said wannaBe

smallorange · 18/03/2009 14:42

The grief for Diana was one of the most bizarre things I have ever experienced.

wannaBe · 18/03/2009 14:44

Well she's not dead yet. She's apparently had hours to live since the weekend so it's possible she could go on for days/weeks/months.

I wonder actually whether ok now realize that the public have had enough of the whole thing, and that by publishing this "tribute" they can actually now wash their hands of it all... thus meaning Jade can fade out of the public view and that her death will not need to be a big deal...

And yes of course the "grief" for diana was ott, although it's not real grief of course, as you can't possibly grieve for someone you've never met.

wannaBe · 18/03/2009 14:46

although, if she went into remission her whole career would be over.

smallorange · 18/03/2009 14:47

Expect the editor is tempted to do her in himself

KayHarkersHeartBelongsToTen · 18/03/2009 14:47

The grief for Diana was beyond OTT. It was practically a secular religion. I feel for Jade, genuinely, but I personally know a number of people dying of cancer who I am already mourning because of who they actually are in life, not because of the simple fact they are dying, which I'm afraid happens every minute of everyday.

knightsofcovonia · 18/03/2009 14:48

How do we know she wants her funeral to be televised? Has her agent specifically said so or is it just some very clever wording ? Am not denying that she probably courted fame, but at the same time, she is not responsible for every word written about her. You are crediting her with too much power. Why should she not 'do it for her boys' ? No-one knows waht goes on behind closed doors.

wannaBe · 18/03/2009 14:49

and it seems the family support the ok magazine tribute

knightsofcovonia · 18/03/2009 14:49

and cancer patients can take a long time to die you know.
