I do M, although we call peat, turf.

When we went on holiday to the west of Ireland we brought back turf which had been cut by hand.It looks completely different to the turf cut by machine, smells different too, sweet and strong.

I can't imagine living in a house without a real fire, tis like the heartbeat of the home.

I have memories of visiting my fathers relatives in Cavan as a child and of us sitting around a large open fire, which was also used for cooking in, and listening to songs and stories.

One day when I finally pluck up the courage to make a proper connection with you, you and the others could perhaps come to stay and sit by open fire and we could drink and laugh whilst watching it's rosy glow.

Dh could pitch in with the donkey.

Tn0g · 31/01/2009 18:48

All those Cavan relatives are dead now, long gone, and the house gone too.

I get an overwhelming need to be back in that house, by that fire with those people and feel the love and security that I felt there.

Tn0g · 31/01/2009 18:48

Cool.

i think that's wonderful that he fancies the guitar.

G, plays piano, well, he's having lessons which he enjoys.

He got a distinction in his Grade 1 exam { blows own hole] but plays feckin' drums in the band.
