Richard Hammond - what is going on with him?

I saw a picture of Richard Hammond (Top Gear) in the guardian magazine this weekend. He looked very odd - very feminine, and as if he was half way through a sex change.

Was it just a bad picture, or is something happenening with him?

Dreadful hair but can't see too much make-up so maybe it's a diff pic we're looking for.

That hair doesn't suit him at all, it was much nicer very short. But I've just read an article by him (not about him) in this morning's new scientist, about teaching kids science (he's doing a new science show apparently) and he seemed on form in that...

fluffy hair, but not shockingly androgenous. Looks the same as he always did I think.

OMG I'm snorting with laughter! That first photo is awful, but was that when he appeared on Jonathon Ross - his first appearance after the crash when he made out everything was OK (not so, if you read the book). He looks totally freaky there!! I see the difference now in the before and after crash (take it the second photo is before).

Snorting at the packet!! Can't avert my eyes!

The Guardian pic was most like Snow's 'not good' pic - but his hair was styled and gelled, and he had a touch of pink lip gloss on,I think. And I don't remember the shirt colar. He looked like an atractive 40 yo woman, or as unavilable says, a transexual. I looked closely several times to see if there were any refs to him playing a woman in panto or something to explain the pic!

Not that i have ever seen Top Gear - just did a double take at the androgynous photo.

It's not his freakiness that looks bad to me in the first photo so much as the hair, necklace and manilow collars. Or maybe his altered mental state made him choose them!? I'm sorry if I've laughed at him when he was in post-crash trauma!

But I do think men with cute/boyish looks look best with short manly hair and jeans iyswim. If you look feminine in the face, girly hair/clothes = bad idea.

I've just looked online. Curiously, the picture that is attached to the online article is different from the one in the magazine.

Yep it was odd. Blow dried hair, and pink lip gloss. Sparkly eyes.. from memory.

Oh, I commented on that photo to dh, it looks like his hair is the wrong size for his head.

There was a very odd picture in the Radio Times. Lots of make-up, big hair, laydee's necklace and blouse. Much more than the one in the Grauniad.
It has to be PTSD or some long-term effects of that awful accident though, doesn't it. Poor chap.

That's weird isn't it? His agent must have realised it woudl kill his sex appeal and persuaded the beeb to pull it. Now Im even more curious to see it though.

Not seen the pic, but I think his eyes look somewhat haunted. Have read his books too.
