Richard Hammond - what is going on with him?

I saw a picture of Richard Hammond (Top Gear) in the guardian magazine this weekend. He looked very odd - very feminine, and as if he was half way through a sex change.

Was it just a bad picture, or is something happenening with him?

(Only joking emoticion!)

Oops! Sorry Mrs H - no offence intended.
I guess it was just a weird photo!

I saw that too. Heavily made up. Mid life crisis?

mrsbabookaloo · 05/01/2009 13:56

Yes, i thought he looked bizarre too. Did he sustain any scars from the crash that he needs to cover up?

...can't believe I'm posting on this thread!

GivePeasAChance · 05/01/2009 13:57

He looks like he needs a good meal/pint of blood.

ilovelovemydog · 05/01/2009 13:58

Didn't he have brain surgery?

Reason I mention it as my godfather also had brain surgery and became very effeminate afterwards (and needed to accessorize everything - )

Hassled · 05/01/2009 13:59

It's those stupid bloody necklaces he insists on wearing and the ridiculous hair. He needs to sort himself out - he's starting to make Clarkson look normal.

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/01/2009 14:00

I thought that photograph was a woman when I first turned the page!

Very odd.

troutpout · 05/01/2009 14:02

Oooh! gosh yes...dh and i were both at that picture
masses of makeup

Flier · 05/01/2009 14:06

didn't see that pic but did see him on tv at the weekend and thought something similiar - think he needs to do somethng with his hair

NomDePlume · 05/01/2009 14:07

Not seen the pic but he really gets on my wick.

CrushaGrape · 05/01/2009 14:58

yes, DP and I both thought he looked utterly bizarre in that Guardian picture. I couldn't quite put my finger on why - he certainly looks more feminine than he used to (the flicky, layered hair style doesn't help). I was reminded somewhat of Quentin Crisp.

fartmeistergeneral · 05/01/2009 15:02

He's definitely trying too hard. Wish I'd seen that picture, but when I see him on Top Gear with chunky necklaces, bouffant hair, fitted shirts and ripped jeans - I do cringe.

PuppyMonkey · 05/01/2009 15:05

I think ever since that crash he's not looked a well man... bulging eyes and gaunt face and so thin. I don't think he came out of the crash as well as everyone thinks he did. Maybe the makeup was on cos he looks so ill without it...

MissisBoot · 05/01/2009 15:10

Yes - the photo was very strange - it looked as if his face was completely symmetrical (apart from the wrinkles).

His 'do is getting out of control I agree!

bronze · 05/01/2009 15:13

We've decided here that the annoying hair is to cover up scars

fartmeistergeneral · 05/01/2009 15:15

I've read his book, and he certainly was a changed man after the crash as you'd expect.

Or he's having a mid life crisis.

unavailable · 05/01/2009 15:15

Yes Puppymonkey - I think he hasnt been the same since the accident. Perhaps it has triggered of some sort of image/identity crisis.

Hope he's ok .

Tbh I didn't really know him before the crash. Perhaps being given a second chance at life he's worried about dying??

Hmm.. that didn't make any sense at all.

Some people start liking celery after a new heart, when they never liked it before. Could be something like that. Now he likes scented conditioners, when before, he would use whatever was there, even vosene.

fartmeistergeneral · 05/01/2009 15:23

Having read his book, he did mention liking celery now (or was that an interview I saw?). How bizarre! And lol at the love of scented conditioners - ties in with his strange new image!!

Do you think Mindy is cringing every time he leaves the house with taller and taller hair, weighed down by wooden necklaces?

LiffeyAnna - Sorry I dont know how to link (my computer skills are rather basic!) but it was in the Guardian magazine last Saturday. Could someone cleverer than me do the magic linking?
