Was trick or treating quiet round your way tonight?

It was much less busy than last year, just walking round we didn't see many others, despite it being a nice evening compared to last year when it pissed down but loads were out!

Less than half the sweets we left out went too, compared to all last year.

Was it quieter than last year for anyone else? I wonder why!

It was heaving. I spent way more on sweets than last year as I ran out and this year it was all fine in an hour. So many huge groups of kids.

Lilacspring · 01/11/2026 09:54

Ive lived at my address for 14 years, ive never had any trick or treaters.

Liverpoolxxx · 01/11/2026 09:55

Didn't see as many kids out and not as many houses participating. The number of kids in our wee village has halved in the last few years and the older kids in the wider community seem to choose a different village to ‘target’ (with permission) each year. It was not our turn this year.

Quite busy here, but definitely less houses taking part.

DanaScullysLegoHair · 01/11/2026 09:57

No knocks as no decorations but heard a couple of groups passing.

clareykb · 01/11/2026 09:57

North East England 158 in total last year we only had 120 😂

AlligatorsOnaTrain · 01/11/2026 09:57

We had our pumpkins outside but didn't get a single trick or treater this year. I think a lot of the children in our village have probably outgrown it all by now and the ones who haven't don't bother because there are only about 3 or 4 houses in this village who bother with it all, the rest are a bunch of miseries.

LadyTyburn · 01/11/2026 10:08

It was quiet here compared to other years. We decorated, but only a couple of other houses on our street did. We do have a large population of disapproving christians and churches that put on 'light' events at Halloween for the little kids, and they seem to have ramped up a bit. It's a shame because it does mean the rowdy teenagers are more dominant among the remaining trick-or-treaters.

Sillysausage76 · 01/11/2026 10:15

Was mad round here, started with the tots in afternoon, we never put pumpkins out this year (due to bereavements) but several neighbours kids knocked (as we said they could) and then other kids saw our door open so sweets got a hammering. Luckily we had plenty.

Our village was like this a few years ago. Miserable swines. Halloween is an ancient Christian festival. (I know it was Samhain first, but they merged. You dress up as ghouls to frighten the real bad spirits away. But that holier than thou vicar got promoted and the current one is too passive to do much of anything, so the little witches and wizards are back, thank God.

Anything to brighten up the long dark days.

It suddenly got busy at 7pm. One new thing seems to be the gun that leaves notes as “payment” for the sweets.

Better than 2020, when only one family saw my Boo for Boris sign: everyone was glued to their television sets for the three-hour “next slide, please”, while Boris was pleading with his handlers “pleeeeeeeeeeease don’t make me do a second lockdown”.

Made 51 little sweet bags just to have 2 kids knock 😒

Give them to a foodbank?

I put electric tea lights out and leave a bowl of sweets outside. According to my ring door bell there were 24 'events' so not bad.

Last year I had loads of sweets left so I donated to the local community shop.

I only had 2 visitors. We do decorate the house to make it obvious but no one in our road does, and hardly anyone around else, so guess it's not worth trick or treaters coming to the estate just for one or two houses. Most years we get no one.

Wetleggg · 01/11/2026 10:57

Definitely much quieter this year - Saturday may have made a difference. Our doorway may have been too spooky for the littlies but I think it was generally quieter and people may have gone elsewhere - they did hoover up all the sweets all the same

Apotofrealcoffee · 01/11/2026 11:05

We had about 20 door knocks, most in groups so around 60/70 in total. Ran out of sweets and had to leg it to the corner shop. Also took DC trick or treating, which they really enjoyed. Slightly fewer decorations than last year but still a good turnout.

WimbyAce · 01/11/2026 11:26

Our road doesn't really do it, we decorate and the house next door had pumpkins out but we are the end of a close. Last year we had no one but we had 3 visits this year so was happy with that! Where we used to live is the opposite, I used to go through hundreds of sweets. My partner took the kids there and to another enthusiastic estate and they came back with loads of sweets.

Chilly80 · 01/11/2026 11:54

Possibly less than previous years but still loads of people out and about.

Unfortunately there were also a group of lads egging houses and messing with fireworks.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 31/10/2026 22:22

No knocks here (thankfully) but quite a lot of fireworks for some reason.

Same here...not a soul but plenty of bangs

MyGirlJ · 01/11/2026 12:00

I only had 3 groups of trick or treaters. Very quiet.

FeeLipa · 01/11/2026 12:06

We rarely get any, noone in the cul de sac puts pumpkins out so no-one bothers coming up to the top where we are.

There is an avenue a few roads round who used to get really into it, every house went all out with decorations. Unfortunately the last few years they had people driving to get there (it was recommended on the local FB group) and all the houses were cleared out of sweets by 6pm from non locals. This year there was noticeably less decorations up.

RaraRachael · 01/11/2026 12:08

Nobody came to our door but there aren't any kids in our rea.

When I was teaching lots of the kids would come but I'm retired now.

Disturbia81 · 01/11/2026 13:03

No not here. My door didn’t stop knocking and I had to raid the emergency chocolate 😂

That’s not a bad idea I didn’t think of that!

No - our whole estate gets into it - it has a really lovely community feel with everyone out and about, some houses really go all out just to make the kids happy. We are lucky that nobody goes to any house that isn’t decorated or has a pumpkin. It’s normally all over by 1930 because the little ones come out early. It’s a great evening and I love how the majority join in and the minority are respected and left alone
