Was trick or treating quiet round your way tonight?

It was much less busy than last year, just walking round we didn't see many others, despite it being a nice evening compared to last year when it pissed down but loads were out!

Less than half the sweets we left out went too, compared to all last year.

Was it quieter than last year for anyone else? I wonder why!

Nothing here except 4 scum bags up to something outside my door. Pegged it as soon as they noticed my doorbell camera was filming them.

Echobelly · 31/10/2026 22:51

Fairly normal in North London - felt like relatively few houses with decorations up this year, but trick or treaters pretty normal. Quite a lot 5.30-6.30, then dribs and drabs until about 8.30. Not the busiest year, but not the quietest either.

Quiet with only three knocks but they came mob-handed, so there were 19 kids altogether.

The only way I know that is because we had a bag of 20 treats and there was only one left which I ate.😂

😂. I like your style.
Also had a really quite night but I think a lot of kids families take them to the next town over, which is more populated and goes in for Halloween more with decorations and stuff.A

So my sweets will be hitting the food bank next week.

Beautiful dry and fairly warm-ish evening, and just perfect for trick or treaters, but yes, oddly, only around half of what there was some 5-10 years ago. Around 40% of the sweets left too.

I can only put it down to the falling birth rate and the fact that there are less children than in the 2010s. I could be wrong of course, but what else can it be?

Great night in my village, but weirdly, noticeably less children. (Last year and the year before there was not so many too, although more than this year.)

All the outside pumpkins stayed lit though. Smile

FairViewRosie25 · 31/10/2026 22:57

One little tiddly here with his mum & dad. Daughter at uni in her house has had 12

MacronsPensWiper · 31/10/2026 22:57

Very quiet op. We only got one tub of sweets this year and we did shift them but very quiet.

hellospring26 · 31/10/2026 22:58

Haven’t had any here tonight, very strange. Hardly any houses decorated either.

rosydreams · 31/10/2026 22:58

yeah very quite still have loads lol

Whatissheliketwelve · 31/10/2026 22:59

We had a steady flow of trick or treaters for 2/3hrs but nothing like last year, I'm thinking it's because most of the big firework displays around town are tonight so a lot of people will have chosen to do that over going out trick or treating

HollyIvie · 31/10/2026 23:02

Really busy round here. Loads of houses decorated and lots of families out 🎃

DeutscheBahnTicket · 31/10/2026 23:03

It was about the same as usual here. I think maybe fewer houses had decorations up though. The few years after covid, people seemed to go all out. Tonight there were still the few, big houses who put in a tonne of work every year, one with a person who jumps out. But less general decoration I think. We never get many knocks but think that's because we are in a little cul-de-sac, so a bit out of the way. I brought all my decorations in at 9 as nobody was coming by then.

Seagulldancing · 31/10/2026 23:05

It was quieter than usual here too. But loads of fireworks, so I wonder if there were more at home parties?

BooksAndHooks · 31/10/2026 23:43

Very quiet less than half the usual number, even last year with terrible weather we had loads. I thought being a weekend and lovely weather it would be busier.

DaisyMayBojangles · 31/10/2026 23:43

Very busy round our way..always is. Started off very slowly though and thought we would have a ton of sweets left over, but by about 6.30 it was bedlam! I love it though..the kids are always polite as are the parents, and my daughter enjoyed having her friends over too.

Similar here: lots of trick or treaters but fewer houses getting involved. Maybe due to half term?

It does annoy me a bit when people have their kids go out to other houses but don't give out sweets themselves 🫤

Spaghettihoopsontoastplease · 31/10/2026 23:47

Quieter than usual here. I think more people going to organised events (whether family/friends or public) might explain it. These things usually happen on a separate night from the trick or treating.

LBFseBrom · 31/10/2026 23:48

There was none, thankfully.

MrsKateColumbo · 31/10/2026 23:49

SW london, went with friends who chose the "busy" roads and it was the busiest ive ever seen, the houses that had full on displays- there were around 30 kids at the house. Must have seen a couple of hundred on the "busy roads." But people travel to go there as the houses go full out. It's normally very sleepy

Cruftsrecommended · 31/10/2026 23:50

My estate was heaving! Very busy with kids from about 5-7.30 or so.
i have 3 barky dogs I didn’t want disturbing so i put a sign on the door and didn’t get a single knock. Lovely!

330ml · 31/10/2026 23:56

Quiet here. A car did drive past around 7 and I heard an owl screech half an hour later. No people.

mondaytosunday · 01/11/2026 00:03

Goodness no! Started a bit earlier (I guess because it was a Saturday) but we always get loads and while numbers dipped a bit last year due to the rain it was at peak this year. 250 kids perhaps more. All I know is I bought at least 15 bags of sweets and my sister and son were scrounging through the cupboards for anything small and wrapped; Tunnock tea cakes went down a treat! We ended up with a few fudgies and Tesco cosmic whips. Skittles were the number one favourite.

ScaramoucheCanYouDoTheFandango · 01/11/2026 00:11

The first year we first moved to our house 20ish years ago in a family friendly estate we made up 100s of bags of sweets as we thought it would be busy, we were looking forward to the kids doing a turn, but we never had a single knock. We were eating haribo and mini milky ways/mars bars for months after that 🤣

We are in a cul de sac off the main road and the kids just seem to mostly pass us by. So now we don’t bother and just turn the front lights off.

Livelovebehappy · 01/11/2026 00:22

Left dh in charge as had to take DM shopping and I suspect he didn’t play ball as I came back to a nearly full bowl of haribos. I sat and ate them all. Even though I’m not all that keen on haribos. I’m feeling really disappointed in myself and am putting all the blame for this on dh..

Inheritancequestions · 01/11/2026 00:28

Yes. Fewer houses decorated, fewer children out.

SweetBaklava · 01/11/2026 00:29

I had 50 callers tonight, similar to last year (outer NE London)
