Was trick or treating quiet round your way tonight?

It was much less busy than last year, just walking round we didn't see many others, despite it being a nice evening compared to last year when it pissed down but loads were out!

Less than half the sweets we left out went too, compared to all last year.

Was it quieter than last year for anyone else? I wonder why!

Very very busy. Everyone adults and children alike dressed in great costumes. The centre of town dressed up, concerts, discos, street food and entertainment culminating in a huge parade and fireworks before all the young adults dressed up in costumes went to the clubs. I was in Derry though…….it was great!

XxwiccaxX · 01/11/2026 00:51

Made 51 little sweet bags just to have 2 kids knock 😒

ClaudettedeBeauvoir · 01/11/2026 01:24

Very quiet here. We usually get around 30 visits, we had 6 this year.

I wondered if it was to do with it being a half-term weekend and perhaps people were away? Or whether because my kids are older now, we don't automatically get their classmates all calling to our house?

It wasn't raining or particularly cold either.

Very odd. But my teenagers are happy because we have loads of sweets left over.

Was quiet here, but I think it being a Saturday had a lot to do with it. Family in my street and a family in the next street had what looked like huge parties judging by the amount of people arriving. Family in my street had gone all out and had gone all out and had huge Frankenstein statues and skeletons playing poker in their garden. Balloons attached to the lampposts, gazebos, heaters and an outside bar in their back garden. I went to see it earlier and it looked amazing. A lot of the kids/teens round here were going there

the local dance school and football team had combined and put on a party in the community centre and both local pubs were having Halloween parties where kids were allowed until 8pm at one of them.

I imagine a lot of people will have gone to parties

GintyMcGinty · 01/11/2026 04:15

It was hoaching.

had over 200 guisers at the door, sometimes with queues.

but then I’m in Scotland

Nomdemare · 01/11/2026 05:37

Definitely quieter than last year. We headed out just after five and came home around 6:30. I past years we have met other groups of children with parents, but this year very few. It was noticeably quieter and we could t work out why either.

legosnowqueen · 01/11/2026 06:30

Quiet here but the demographics of our streeet have changed in the last few years. Miss the costumes & excitement!

ihatecoffee · 01/11/2026 06:36

Not a single person knocked this year! Normally we get a fair few.
Lots of fireworks going off too!

cubedcube · 01/11/2026 07:07

I thought it seemed that less houses were decorated & we now have more schools doing the 2 wk half term so more people away. I still got 100 ish visitors though.

HikingHippo · 01/11/2026 07:21

Yes, always is. Our parish committee put on a event each year along with independent shops - kids trick or treat around the shops instead of houses, there are performers, competitions, games etc. It does well for preventing door knocking, stopping kids feeling the need to wander around unlit rural roads, and has stopped anti social behaviour.

Eastmeetswest1 · 01/11/2026 07:26

We had 109 last night.... we were kept going! Find it easier to have bags premade as they normally come in groups of up to 7 or 8. Had made 90 bags so ended up making 10 more up at a time.

Pabbel · 01/11/2026 07:27

Not a single one, lots of fireworks going off though,
Guess i will have to eat the goodies 😄

Chocolatesaltedcaramelballs · 01/11/2026 07:29

Last year was quiet as we had heavy rain but the weather was great trick or treat weather last night and we barely had anyone visit.

We forgot to buy a pumpkin (but had other decorations up) and I overhead a child asking his parents if he should knock so I pop out and gave him a handle of sweets as we have loads of sweets left over (and only spent aroond £5). But friends said similar with them.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 01/11/2026 08:15

Busy here, nearly ran out of treats!

FruAashild · 01/11/2026 08:26

We seemed to have a fairly normal number of trick or treaters. My kids came back and said we were the only house on our street that seemed to be doing trick or treat as well. Usually there are lots of houses doing it but maybe lots of folk are away for half term.

bababamama · 01/11/2026 08:28

I was out but the pubs were heaving based on the facebook lives on the local group, one pub was specifically family friendly 4pm-7pm with free buffet and collection for a couple of charities, they closed for 30 mins and reopened as over 14’s with special wristbands for 14-17 year olds, thought it was a great idea, they were the busiest I’ve ever seen them.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/11/2026 08:31

Despite my pumpkin in the window, very quiet here - only 3 T or T’ers. Dh and I have already been scoffing some of the leftover mini packs of Smarties.

However I’ve seen from the photos that it was very different in DD’s neck of the woods! Hordes of them, all dressed up, and the front of DD’s house like something out of SuperSpookland. .

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 01/11/2026 08:33

It was much busier here than normal. We ran out of sweets by half 7

Smartiepants79 · 01/11/2026 08:34

We had nobody but certain areas of the village were very busy. We live in a cul de sac and the streets around us has very few houses set up for trick or treat. It is the first year no one has come down our road.

Corgi2023 · 01/11/2026 08:43

We'd bought in enough sweets for 60 and they all ran out. Last call at 9pm (and they weren't even very old). It was so great on our estate. A lot of people went to lots of effort. A talking Tesla and a "fright night" experience which IMO was better than Alton towers. The community really came together. Great to see some fab costumes.

HoldMyWine · 01/11/2026 08:46

Just one little boy here. I’ve got a tonne of haribo to get through

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 01/11/2026 08:51

Quiet compared to normal near us. Loads of sweets left over that I will now have to eat!

desperatemum1234 · 01/11/2026 08:53

North London, very busy

Bluelake · 01/11/2026 08:55

There was a lot of activity in our street. 90% of us are on a whatsapp chat, and about 40% of those confirmed they had sweets/treats available.

Marcipex · 01/11/2026 09:02

Crowds of kids, often arriving together. A lot of parents hovering.
Wonderful costumes.
