Who’s the nicest person you know?

Inspired by a conversation with DH
For me it’s a work colleague. She’s genuinely the nicest friendliest woman I’ve ever met. She’ll go out of her way to help other people and shes got the most positive outlook on life despite some really tragic things she’s been through.
So who’s the nicest person you know?

My daughter. Although I would describe her as wonderful rather than "nice". But she is incredible.

My cat

Myself. Genuinely. I think the world would be such a better place if everyone were like me. I am not selfish, thankful for all that I have, want only the best for everyone and would do anything for anyone with no strings attached. I'm honest, when asked for advice and I'm not jealous of anyone or their situation.

I'm sure someone will come along and think that 'nice' people wouldn't highlight their own virtues, but I don't agree with that at all, because it's knowing what is nice which helps me continue to be the way that I am and voicing these attributes doesn't diminish them.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 25/10/2026 10:38

that's an interesting perspective @SausagePizzas

It also implies you think about what constitutes good behaviour and choose to behave that way.

A very dear, now deceased friend, his son at his funeral said something along the lines that "dad chose to be a good person all his life" and it made me realise that people who actively choose that are kinda great people.

Neighbour across the road - she never hesitates to help when she can, is always generously giving stuff away. Despite the fact she is quite unwell and so is her husband.

I often refer to my older brother as the nicest person I know. He’s been through a lot in his 55+ years, and has now settled into a life he enjoys where he has taken on only as much as he can handle. As a consequence (he has no DC), he is free to make either entirely selfish choices, or to be the one for others. He’s chosen the latter. He’s naive and he knows it and chooses it: he wants to believe the best. If he thinks it’s best for them, he’ll allow a person to take (small) advantage of him. He’s learned to keep negativity at bay. He doesn’t care for material pleasures much (but does a bit 😉) and gives to young people in ways that are thought through: he’s paid for therapy, for the down payment on a lease or business premises, for rehab, for horse-riding classes. His wife is the joint-nicest person I know, she sees the world just as he does, they do these things together.

He’s one of these people for whom the world is a better place for having him in it. Not all of us can say that - a lot, but not all, especially as he doesn’t have children to raise to be good, contributing people. He’s amazing.

The woman who ran the charity that got me out of street prostitution. Fabulous woman, the nicest, kindest, best person in the world. Takes no prisoners, stands for no nonsense, biggest heart there ever was. I would be dead without her.

How fabulous.

I've always wondered about the 'never ever has a bad word to say about anyone' people.

Absolute cunts. Domestic abusers. Rapists. Pedophiles. Killers?

Have they just been exceptionally lucky and never came across soneone who deserves all of the bad words against them?

I understand the appeal of someone who is naive and only sees the good in people, seems refreshing. But when that ideal fantasy actually encounters reality, what happens?

weebarra · 25/10/2026 11:19

My mum. She’s had some really tough times but she is such a shiny person. Everyone loves her. Obviously she can get annoyed and frustrated at times but she is such a lovely person.
She’s currently stuck in bed after a foot op and I’m looking after her and my DDad who has dementia so I am experiencing what her life has been like recently and she’s definitely more positive than I am at the moment!

Porkmeatforpigsinblankets · 25/10/2026 11:21

The flip side of this ..
Im not necessarily a nasty person, but I will no longer go out of my way to help people and I will certainly not do amy favours for anyone. This comes from many years being used by an abusive ex .. used for money/car ... and a friend who i can't help but think she's only ever out for what she can gain from situations and manipulates situations to her advantage. All done very underhandedly imo.
But, I would be the first one to help an old/disabled/vulnerable person and cannot bear to see people bring taken advantage of - probably because I was taken advantage of and feel my friend does this too (but I I can never prove it)

This may surprise some of you but our landlords! Brothers, two of the nicest, most charming men you’ll meet. Nothing is too much trouble, they’re out to fix anything at the drop of a hat, and are just such a pleasure to be around. Highly thought of family in our local area.

Whatthefork1 · 25/10/2026 12:12

It would have to be my step MIL. She is honestly the nicest, kindest soul I have ever met. There is zero side to her and she will help anyone with anything. She sees the good in everyone and doesn’t judge, no matter what. (It is a far cry from my MIL that’s for sure).

Cadeaukatze · 25/10/2026 12:28

My aunt by marriage. She's a lot younger than my uncle and he has health problems. She was also looking after her elderly mother. She's a lovely lady and my uncle was lucky to find her.

FateAmenableToChange · 25/10/2026 12:33

My youngest son an absolute treasure looks after all his friends & makes sure no one’s left out. Always thoughtful & helpful.

Floristian · 25/10/2026 12:46

My dearest friend who died in her 30s from cancer. She was the kindest person I've known and an absolutely brilliant parent.

She was a rock for everyone around her. She once walked 4 miles with 2 children and a pushchair to suprise me and cheer me up. Another time she saved a little bit of money each month (she was by this time a single parent and didn't have a huge amount) to take me away for a special day trip. She was there for all her friends and I hope we were there for her.

Kstrang · 25/10/2026 12:48

A friend I’ve known since I was at school! She’s very warm and witty and genuinely is a feel good person to be around, no matter how much I whinge on, and I’m honestly one of the biggest whingers ever. She took care of me when my fiancé and I broke up, even though I barged in on her late at night and she was in bed. In fact she’s always been supportive my whole life, much more so than my (useless) mother or anyone else. I have lots of other friends over the years who have ghosted me or bitched about me, but she never has. I hope I can repay her if she ever gets in a situation where she needs support.

Thewonderfuldollypartonsbra · 25/10/2026 14:00
