Who’s the nicest person you know?

Inspired by a conversation with DH
For me it’s a work colleague. She’s genuinely the nicest friendliest woman I’ve ever met. She’ll go out of her way to help other people and shes got the most positive outlook on life despite some really tragic things she’s been through.
So who’s the nicest person you know?

Such a lovely thread making me feel quite emotional reading it. My Grandmother who died 12 years ago was the kindest most incredible woman, also tough she was in the wrens in WWII and only girl with 5 brothers.

Thankfully still with us my MiL, such a nice person but in a really genuine way, sadly not treated well by her own mother. Im so lucky to have her in my life. She's from on old school small community where you check in on your elder neighbour. Sadly she lives in another country but we see her when we can and message most days.

Dh’s aunty was the nicest person I knew. She never said a bad word about anyone and always had time to listen. She had a twinkle in her eye and genuinely loved everybody.

I always felt that whenever I spent time with her it would rub off a bit and I would leave being a bit nicer ❤️

Ohthatsabitshit · 23/10/2026 21:43

My husband.

Very suspicious of nice people because they come across as quite superficial.

I always think they are hiding something, either because they are manipulative or because of their own pain.

It's easy to be a nice person and always help others; it is incredibly difficult to ask for help when you are needing it.

I know so many wonderfully compassionate, kind and patient people, but none of them is "nice". I have seen them all have rough, weak, and selfish moments that are against type.

The woman who ran the charity that got me out of street prostitution. Fabulous woman, the nicest, kindest, best person in the world. Takes no prisoners, stands for no nonsense, biggest heart there ever was. I would be dead without her.

Love this. What a wonderful person. I’m so glad she was able to help you. Congratulations for getting yourself through a situation I can’t even begin to imagine.

Fernsarethebestplants · 23/10/2026 23:02

I know quite a lot of nice people, it's hard to choose, but the very nicest is my own mum. It's not just me who thinks this; other people have told me this over the years. She has an upbeat disposition, endless energy for her family, friends and visitors, takes a genuine interest in everyone, and has enough self-reflection to make her very human as well. I lucked out beyond belief to end up with her as my mum.

SinuousTendrils · 23/10/2026 23:03

My dog.

hotmumshit · 23/10/2026 23:04

Not someone irl but

On a thread on here, a lady described her mum as being smiley and smiling at everyone she meets, walking along with her head down and just being sweet

It stayed with me for some reason - she sounded nice x

Supersimkin7 · 23/10/2026 23:05

A mate who would drop everything for anyone in an emergency (and has done at 2am frequently) and still not grumble. Cracks open the wine in times of need. Makes jokes that cheer you up.

Retired doc who’s made of solid gold.

Baldrapunzel · 23/10/2026 23:10

Luckily for me, lots of family and friends but I'll choose my SIL who is warm and kind, had a lot to put up with, with our joint MIL, but negotiated the difficulties with grace and kindness. She has raised a lovely child, is so close to her family and is just one of life's enhancers.

All the very best to you. I hope life is being kinder to you these days.

My grandma was. Nothing ever seemed to get her down. Despite having lost two children as babies, she was so easy going, great fun and just plain nice! She doted on my brother and me. She taught me to knit, cooked our favourite meals, was always ready to play or read us a story. She died over 40 years ago and I still miss her. My other grandmother was a nightmare!

Sunbringer · 23/10/2026 23:32

The people I once considered the nicest actually turned out to be quite hurtful. I wouldn’t say I know anyone who is all light and kindness. My husband is probably the closest thing to entirely kind, not a bad bone in his body and would do anything to help anyone. He’d never seek to hurt anyone and actively aims to avoid causing others to be put out (often at his disadvantage which annoys me).

PaperPanama · 24/10/2026 00:38

A woman who lost all but one of her dc to a genetic condition. The only one to survive was injured during the amniocentesis that showed they did not have the condition.

She is the kindest, most caring, generous person I know. She is generous with her time, her patience, her attention. She always has a good word for everyone who crosses her path. When I have known her to be angry, she channeled that anger into achieving a positive outcome. She has quiet strength, solid dependability. I have never seen or heard any bitterness from her. Her attitude always seems to be “This is the hand I’ve been dealt and I will make the best I can of it”. Everybody who works or volunteers with her loves her and trusts her.

I am so lucky to know this woman.

MaggieBsBoat · 24/10/2026 00:45

One of my oldest friends (not age-wise, since we’ve known each other). She has struggles and things are hard for her at times, but she’s utterly kind and non-judgmental. She is patient and loving and always gives the best side of herself to others, even the ones who really don’t deserve it. Even when I’m being a nasty judgy arsehole, she just reasons with me and suggests a better way. I adore her and aspire to be a better person because of her.

Bubblewrap100 · 24/10/2026 07:27

Weirdly, my boss. Weirdly as CEOs aren’t known for being super nice. I’ve worked for him for many years, and have had people say to me that he is too good to be true, what is his ‘side’. And there really isn’t one. He says that he ‘finds people easy to love’ and that really comes across to me in his interactions. I had some personal issues recently and his practical suggestions were way and above what anyone else was offering me other than my parents. He has a lovely family as well.

FigAboutTheRules · 24/10/2026 07:45

This is a lovely idea for a thread, but, as someone mentioned, constant niceness is not healthy. Every human alive experiences anger or some kind of conflicted feeling when out in the world having relationships with other people. If you have denied those feelings even to yourself and carried on smiling and being of service to everyone, that can cause so many problems, mental and physical. Not only that, it isn't real. I prefer real people. I like fierce people who stick up for the ones they love or work on behalf of, and who will call out injustice. Not necessarily always kind, and definitely not sweet, but they care. To live like that in a genuine way you have to also care about your own needs and feelings.

distinctpossibility · 24/10/2026 07:55

I don't really value niceness as a trait but I have had some friends, family, and partners who have been deeply kind to me. I'm fortunate enough that most of the people I know, I know well enough to see their 'dark side' - their filthy sense of humour or their insecurities or chronic lateness.

I do have one friend who is beautiful, warm, thoughtful, kind and intelligent. She puts people at ease and has different cushion covers for every season. I think she would be thought of as the 'nicest' person. I feel very privileged that I get to see her own unique brand of weird!

Pplareasthickasshit · 24/10/2026 12:49

A woman I work for. She's lovely. No badness in her. Really lovely and funny too.
A friend who's a doctor. Not a bad thought even passes through her. Her patients adore her.
My mum and dad. It's taken me 50 odd years to figure out how amazing my mum was. She had a lot of demons to fight and I was selfish but she was an incredible woman. My dad was a big softy too. Kind and gentle.

Love this! I know exactly the sort of person you mean, and I’ve spent my life trying to be them. Love that you are here to tell the story 🌹

My friend’s daughter - the daughter has so much pure love for people in her heart, and she does so many little thoughtful things for her mum (my friend) who honestly doesn’t notice or doesn’t realise most people wouldn’t bother to do those little things! She is polite and cheerful outwardly, very aware of making an effort to leave a friendly exchange. Similar to those people mentioned above, she doesn’t have much to be so cheerful about but she has a drive to do anything for people and animals. She’s astute and sharp and funny, and I sometimes wish she was my daughter (I have sons, who of course are great, just different. ) !! I sometimes want to tell my friend she should give her daughter a hug now and again - or laugh at her humour!!!
OP, this is a really heart warming and inspiring post, thank you, I had to comment. It is nice to reflect on how we can take heart from others. X

This is a sad read. Could she be looking for approval from your friend (who sounds cold)?

Dingdong90 · 24/10/2026 18:31

Work friend. Ive always had difficulty making friends and fitting in,havent got any friends from childhood etc,but i started a new job 2 years ago and instantly became friends with a couple of the girls and one in particular is just so amazing. She radiates light ,its so hard to explain but she is honestly one of the most amazing people ive ever met. Everyone in the town knows her and loves her, we go nights out and everyone stops her to talk to her because they love her company too. She is my absolute sunshine 💛

I wonder about this too. Do these nice people never experience that rage and want to scream 'Fuck off you bunch of cunts' at everyone and storm off?

gillefc82 · 24/10/2026 19:35

One of my friends, Corina. Just the most lovely, lovely person. She’d genuinely give you the last £1 from her purse if you asked, regardless of her being on the bones of her arse herself and it meaning she would go without. She’s genuine and authentic, so kind and caring and generous in every way, but is totally unassuming and sincere with it.

And the best thing about her - she has the filthiest sounding, most infectious laugh ever! I love her to bits.

The woman I mentioned does. She would absolutely, but it would be to an actual bunch of cunts who deserved it.
