Eh?

Are you sure?

Most seem to think it was a Laydee...

He was my first thought. So many allegations over so many years, I’ll be shocked if it isn’t him.

Not David Jason surely?

Uricon2 · 17/10/2026 11:58

I'm old enough to remember Ernest Saunders, Guinness scandal (financial misdeeds) Sentenced to 5 years, served 10 months and was released because he had Alzheimers Disease.

Not long afterwards he 'recovered' and is still around best part of 40 years later. Remarkable and I would imagine, unique.

We need to be very careful about the rich having recourse to different treatment and protections than the poor have.

Btsstew · 17/10/2026 12:02

Supersimkin7 · 17/10/2026 06:27

He’s had severe depression in the past. For once, this ain’t blackmail.

I say leave the howling mob out of it till he’s been convicted of something.

Yes, he’s prob guilty and yes, the courts are rubbish at convictions which is why we have to have trial by media, but enough with the witch hunt.

Witch hunts were carried out against women who had done nothing wrong.

DozyCrow · 17/10/2026 12:12

Whoever it is, I wonder how bothered he was about the damage caused to the mental health of his (alleged) victims?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 17/10/2026 12:18

Farageisafraud · 17/10/2026 11:23

Arday was actually cleared of plagiarism by Liverpool John Moore's university which makes his treatment and media hounding even worse.

Best not to speculate on this particular case here until actual facts emerge and legal process takes place rather than usual trial by (social) media.

But it wasn't the plagiarism that made headline news.

SerendipityJane · 17/10/2026 12:21

It's not Barbara Streisand is it 😎

Why assume it’s a man, it may well be a lady.

Don't you mean 'Laydee'?!

TorroFerney · 17/10/2026 12:24

Mapletree1985 · 17/10/2026 05:05

Because threatening to harm himself if anyone holds him accountable for his actions is classic male abuser behavior.

I think its a clue/hint , I dont think anyone would actually type that meaning what you think it does!

Reformdeniesanywrongdoing · 17/10/2026 12:32

St0rmF0rce · 17/10/2026 10:58

Agree. I bet his victims are getting precious little mental health support.

Exactly.

Springtimeinsunshine · 17/10/2026 12:37

If it's who everyone thinks it is, they have threatened to self harm if they don't get this injunction but they also refuse any MH support.

You can't have it both ways, especially when facing criminal proceedings.

nopenotplaying · 17/10/2026 09:10

I think we should avoid trial by media, innocent until the court decides otherwise. Thereafter deserving of punishment. People have been named in the past and found innocent - Cliff Richard as one example.

Yes, Cliff was found innocent; but at least it would be a comfort to him, if he wasn't innocent, that he has loads of money in the Kitty and so could easily afford his own super-injunction if he had ever been in a position to need one.

WilliamTopazMcGonagallPoorPoetFromDundeeBeItTold · 17/10/2026 13:02

Didn't this fail spectacularly with a previous SI - whereby the man concerned took the trouble (and cost) to apply for one, but it was only in force in England & Wales... so one of the Scottish papers (and their website, of course) openly published all of the sordid details of what he'd been up to?

AutumnLover1999 · 17/10/2026 09:39

Let them. They rarely do it anyway. They are all mouth 🙄😡

What about the ones who do?

Constantrunner · 17/10/2026 13:07

It's an interesting one legally. Being at risk of suicide does not stop you facing the law. But this case is not about that, but about a paper publishing allegations. I will be interested to read the judgement.

Why assume it’s a man, it may well be a lady.

Because the majority of newspapers are saying 'Well-known man'...

Wildgoat · 17/10/2026 13:12

As much as I don’t agree in the right to life justification, I do think this thread is an example of why it should potentially be withheld, as these are allegations. But people are posting like he’s a convincted criminal

at the moment he’s not ever been convicted of a crime, and as much as I don’t agree the right to life justification I also don’t agree someone should be treated like a convicted criminal simply due to allegations.

Chefpig · 17/10/2026 11:54

Not David Jason surely?

I've heard a few people who have met him at conventions in the last few years say he's "gone a bit pervy, in his old age."

For whatever that's worth, so it wouldn't suprise me.

Although judging from the posts here I think that's not the person the guardian mean.

Yes, a man who was very well-known for playing a laaaay-deeeee.

XenaSharples · 17/10/2026 13:24

If he's so concerned, maybe he could just not harm himself.

One of two Laay-deees...

In long frocks, riding bicycles along the sea front and one of which had a beard...

I wonder what Matt Lucas is doing since he left Bake-Off..?
