Sometimes people don’t have the fight in them to go through things even though they know that they are in the right

He is a multimillionaire with paid solicitors fighting on his behalf. It's not as if he's sitting hunched over his laptop at midnight, fighting the good fight against the establishment and big companies 🙄

He was my first thought. So many allegations over so many years, I’ll be shocked if it isn’t him.

Who?

As someone who is currently fighting a parking ticket for parking in a free car park and an electricity company who insist (despite the Ombudsman coming out in my favour) that I owe £1000+ in “unpaid bills”

I am always trying to fight these type of accusations, from HMRC taking me to court for not filing my tax returns on time (I had a letter dated months prior to the 31st January deadline as a receipt that I had filed them in time) to credit card and loan companies stating that I had applied for credit cards or loans that appeared on my credit file. (One of these companies told me the date and time I had filled out the application form for a credit card. It was 3 minutes after I had given birth to ds by CS and at that time was lay on my back in an operating theatre being stitched back together and could prove it by my hospital notes).Plus loads of stuff that comes out of left field

My life is taken over by these people and companies and at some point (of course it will be my choice) I will just give up and end it.

Add to that I have never been paid tax back despite HMRC owing me thousands over the years.
This year it is a mere £335. Can I get them to pay me back.
They just keep saying they will get to my account in x weeks and when that doesn’t happen I am told to wait months more etc until I am timed out of claiming

Sometimes people don’t have the fight in them to go through things even though they know that they are in the right

Would you have the fight in you if you had the money to outsource all the grunt work to another person, who was a professional in those matters..?

GwendolineFairfax8 · 28/10/2026 09:18

@FairKoala

So sorry you have been through all this. The system is shocking and feels designed to exhaust ‘normal’ people into giving up and going away.

Celebrities and the wealthy can pay top lawyers to fight their battles for them - a luxury most of us cannot afford.

I realise my view will be unpopular on MN but everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I so hate the precedent now of hounding people in the UK and hopping on the judgemental bandwagon without any evidence or knowing the person at all. It’s pretty horrible behaviour.

In general I agree. But on the basis that about 1% of rape complaints actually result in a conviction, victims are taking action in a different way. They should be able to rely on the court system (the police, CPS and then the trial) but the system isn’t working properly.

OutOfTheOtherSide · 28/10/2026 08:11

This type of comment is exactly why we need to find ways of making the legal system more fair. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You are making an assumption based on the gutter press and social media which is set up to draw people like you in. The stories might be true but they might not be. The public's desperation to see successful people fail can very easily get in the way of truth.

The poster has ‘no idea what they are talking about’, even thought they’ve seen the video footage of him assaulting someone, like hundreds of other people have? With their own eyes?

What a fool you sound.

AnotherAnnie · 28/10/2026 09:29

If this is journalism about personal misconduct and "he said/she said," and if they are supposed to have broken the law, media waiting until people are charged by a court and found guilty feels fair in the modern world where unfair accusing can really ruin a life. If it is investigative journalism about company misconduct, reframing it as about someone unamed within the company may allow the journalism without threatening the life.

Id prefer if this media restraint in cases of severe risk to life was available automatically to anyone not in an elected office, no matter how rich or poor, if multiple psychiatrists ask for it.

Twilight777 who the poster is quoting has made an oblique allusion to a well-known 80s sitcom and I believe she means the star of said sitcom.

Yes sorry i did read on and I've now googled. The allegations against this person seem much less concrete than the other main person. Thanks for helping!

The press have standards and will thoroughly investigate something and have reason to believe it is true before publishing, as otherwise they can be sued. They don’t just print something because it seems like a good story and 1 person is saying it.

SpanishFly · 28/10/2026 10:04

Ugh, just watched the Mark Ronson clip - he is clearly distressed, and him trying to push DW's arm off towards the end is really disturbing.
And, when DW puts his hand near MR's fly, does he actually grab his penis? MR kind of just freezes. It's so awful.

Edited

I agree. The mark ronson clip is awful and DW has been horrendous for a very long time. Court proceeding have a legal benchmark obvioulsy but we can view things and make judgements based on what we see.

BrandiedAromatics · 28/10/2026 10:14

As others have stated DW has demonstrably shown very bad behaviour. On the thread about The Salt Path it came out that his publisher had to arrange for two members of staff at a time to deal with DW - as most of the editors were women. They also paid thousands of pounds to one of the young women who had to deal with him in her job. But he was one of their best-selling authors ....

I always wonder if Mumsnet had been around in the early 90s. And what posters would have thought of Craig Charles being arrested and imprisoned for rape allegations,
Unfortunately I suspect that even though the woman in question admitted she made everything up there will be a certain few who will insist it did happen

Similar to those who will insist the woman in question admitted lying. She actually didn’t. She has never done so.

The whole narrative, led by Charles himself was that she lied and he campaigned for accused rapists to remain anonymous. It’s telling that from the start she was described as “former stripper” putting that first before the fact she was his girlfriend. Inviting all to judge her for her profession, perhaps to suggest she might be less believable, or maybe she deserved it because after all, strippers are just asking for it. This was undoubtedly used by the defence team, DARVO is the standard process.

Maybe he (and his friend) didn’t rape her. He has gone on to further build his career, it was barely a blip, so the allegations the jury decided were false haven’t really affected him. I would assume if she lied her life has been forever changed by the outcome, she will have struggled. She will forever be the woman who falsely accused him of rape. Good result all round.

On the other hand, if they did rape her, he has gone on to further build his career. Her life will have been forever changed by the outcome. She will forever be the woman who falsely accused him of rape. And she has to come to terms with the fact she was raped by two men. Good result for Craig Charles though.

Using the outcome of any rape trial to prove the innocence of the accused is very misleading. It is the one area of the justice system that just doesn’t work. Legally we have to assume Charles was not guilty. Given that only 1% or rapists ever see a day in prison, it’s quite fair to assume he may not have been.

SO you are saying it is one of the clipperty clops, happened in May?

lets hope!

So is the well known person who said in the last few days that if he was named he would kill himself?

https://mol.im/a/16242837

Supersimkin7 · 28/10/2026 10:49

He’s tried to top himself since his teens, he’s got a really unpleasant serious mental illness.

And he’s a lech.

A clever lech.

I do think it’s fair to wait for the evidence in the court case - it would be fairer to have a justice system that works for sex crime.

Abusers often threaten suicide when they are faced with accountability. Sometimes they do kill themselves, and this is often partly as a way to punish their victim for doing something to challenge them.

Doesn't mean abusers shouldn't be held to account.

Nor would I suggest they shouldn't. I just felt the point needed to be made that suicide threats are not always bluff.
