Never seen that Mark Ronson clip before, that’s horrific

Mmhmmn · 28/10/2026 11:16

Their client could harm himself - thsts supposed to be a get out clause for all sorts of odious behaviour now. The reason it’s a problem in the first place is because he’s been harming others.

Oh but that’s alright, is it? As long as pervs and abusers are not outed and at risk of harming themselves. 🙄
Well done to ITN.

Similar to those who will insist the woman in question admitted lying. She actually didn’t. She has never done so.

The whole narrative, led by Charles himself was that she lied and he campaigned for accused rapists to remain anonymous. It’s telling that from the start she was described as “former stripper” putting that first before the fact she was his girlfriend. Inviting all to judge her for her profession, perhaps to suggest she might be less believable, or maybe she deserved it because after all, strippers are just asking for it. This was undoubtedly used by the defence team, DARVO is the standard process.

Maybe he (and his friend) didn’t rape her. He has gone on to further build his career, it was barely a blip, so the allegations the jury decided were false haven’t really affected him. I would assume if she lied her life has been forever changed by the outcome, she will have struggled. She will forever be the woman who falsely accused him of rape. Good result all round.

On the other hand, if they did rape her, he has gone on to further build his career. Her life will have been forever changed by the outcome. She will forever be the woman who falsely accused him of rape. And she has to come to terms with the fact she was raped by two men. Good result for Craig Charles though.

Using the outcome of any rape trial to prove the innocence of the accused is very misleading. It is the one area of the justice system that just doesn’t work. Legally we have to assume Charles was not guilty. Given that only 1% or rapists ever see a day in prison, it’s quite fair to assume he may not have been.

My assumption was this without knowing the facts. My head immediately thought ‘did she admit to lying, or was she somehow discredited and blamed by clever lawyers?’ Because - that’s the pattern. I don’t know if she lied or not. No-one can.

But I’ve worked with humans closely for long enough to have seen this pattern play out again and again and the psychiatric system has now apologised for their part in it.

Some women will make false accusations but it’s a tiny tiny number. I’d believe the woman over the man every time if I was pushed to pick and there was no evidence either way. Because most women have been sexually assaulted at some point in their life. Marital rape was only criminalised in 1991! Men have sexually assaulted and sexually abused women for decades and then used their power and created systems that then silence them.

Askandyforcompo · 28/10/2026 11:18

I wonder what the point is of this story being in the press? If it's to make more people come forward, well in this case there are already 100 women. If it's to make the public see him for what he really is then I think that's already happened as his career is now non existent. If what he's done is criminal then the police should investigate. I think there is an element of 'gossip' to all these newspaper stories.

In the case of Noel Clarke it has made a criminal case be brought against him. Same with Russell Brand. But both these had way fewer than 100 testimonies in the stories, both still had careers and reputations still intact so it could be argued it was in the public interest to publish the allegations. In this case his life and career are already shot to pieces so the only further punishment would be the legal route.

This guy we're talking about is horrible. I do know him and out of literally thousands of celebrities I've worked with he is the one I would have bet money on being like this. Right from the start of his career he has been so pleased with himself, so dismissive of people who aren't famous, so selfish, so mean about people. Interesting that all his A list friends he was so delighted to have have abandoned him.

He has so much history in 'making things go away'. There was a News of The World story about him about 20 years ago that disappeared from the internet somehow.

So if I get charged with something, can I say that if it is made public I will kill myself and make them not report it?

Me too!

His absolute determination. The physical force he uses, The aggression. He does not stop.

Absolutely dreadful.

It really shows though that if you are unlucky enough to be in a room with him and he decides to do something, you will NOT escape.

If this is journalism about personal misconduct and "he said/she said," and if they are supposed to have broken the law, media waiting until people are charged by a court and found guilty feels fair in the modern world where unfair accusing can really ruin a life. If it is investigative journalism about company misconduct, reframing it as about someone unamed within the company may allow the journalism without threatening the life.

Id prefer if this media restraint in cases of severe risk to life was available automatically to anyone not in an elected office, no matter how rich or poor, if multiple psychiatrists ask for it.

I disagree.

There is evidence he’s lied to his doctors according to the judge.

It is the role of the health service to manage his mental health and any related risks.

It’s the role of newspapers to report matters in the public interest and to do due diligence that are only reporting facts.

It’s the role of the court to decide whether a crime has been committed and what the legal outcome of that should be.

Yes. If you have enough power and wealth it seems.

Regarding DJ - I saw and heard what he said with my own eyes and ears. He was on the one show some years ago and I happened to be watching. He made a joke about not bending down around him when on set and if you were a woman. Just came out with it and was laughing.

so it’s not a rumour. He said that. And of course it could be taken as some sort of joke from the era of Bernard manning but hmmmmn

My ex has worked in tv and the theatre for over 40 years and he told me this years ago, saying "it'll all come out eventually...."

katseyes7 · 28/10/2026 11:50

*Oakeydoke *
I agree with you.
My mother took her own life when she was 83. No history of previous attempts, so she succeeded first time.
Everyone was utterly stunned and shocked, the week before it happened she saw a doctor who told me she was "a bit depressed".
She refused medication and counselling.

Hoppinggreen · 28/10/2026 11:51

Apparently the man who was accused of being the Putney Pusher should never have been investigated either according to his family as it was "affecting his mental health"
Is this the latest get out of jail free card for abusive men? You can't report or prosecute them in case it affects their mental health?

Of course an investigation into your alleged criminal behaviour will affect your mental health. But that’s what mental health services are there for. The legal system is there to uphold the law. These bloody men that cry ‘poor me’ when confronted with their own poor behaviour is pathetic.

HylianShroom · 28/10/2026 07:15

Well I’ve got eyes and I’ve seen the video of him sexually assaulting someone on stage, plus, you know, all the evidence against him. Do you have to know someone personally to know they’re a wrong un? Is that actually what you think?

Are you referring to a touring stage show he was doing with Matt Lucas? If so i saw that years ago and still remember finding it quite disturbing. Why was there no reaction to that? Ditto John Barrowman going up behind women and putting his penis on them and Chris Evans coming into meetings in a dressing gown deliberately left open to display his genitals. But nobody seems to have done anything about these things.

WildStorm · 28/10/2026 12:12

I realise my view will be unpopular on MN but everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I so hate the precedent now of hounding people in the UK and hopping on the judgemental bandwagon without any evidence or knowing the person at all. It’s pretty horrible behaviour.

@Autumngirl5 and yet when it’s a black academic accused of plagiarism, not rape etc…, then no one gives a shit.

I agree with you re innocent until proven guilty. But then it should be the case for EVERYONE. Not just the Wheatley lucky few.

And that before going into how rape is treated by the justice system.
Personally, I’d rather know if someone has been accused of something like before.

Fwiw, Gary Lineker denied having a super injunction in 2017

Unless this relates to his sleazebag brother

He's lying, he does - in fact his was one of the first. Nothing to do with his brother.

Sunshineandoranges · 28/10/2026 12:20

The incident I saw was dw calling up a member if the audience and then holding him down and crawling on top of him. It was a tv showing his live tour with matt lucas. Loads if people saw it,

Really? I have heard a few rumours over the years . . .

Yes there have been rumours for years and had the rumours been in any way credible they’d have stopped being rumours years ago.

I wonder how people would feel if the male members of their family had their names bandied about a forum just for the sake of it?

I have no idea about that person, but that statement is clearly untrue.

Savile- rumours for years, only came out when he was dead
Epstein/Andrew etc -rumours for years - took a long time to come out- still lots that hasn't come out.

SmugglersHaunt · 28/10/2026 12:39

I think it’s so reprehensible of him to use the threat of suicide to try and hush up women who say they’ve been abused by him!

TheFormerMrsTruelove · 28/10/2026 12:46

nopenotplaying · 17/10/2026 09:10

I think we should avoid trial by media, innocent until the court decides otherwise. Thereafter deserving of punishment. People have been named in the past and found innocent - Cliff Richard as one example.

This is wrong on several levels. Firstly, that particular individual did not face a legal trial because the CPS decided there wasn’t sufficient evidence to charge him with any offences. He wasn’t found anything. Secondly, our legal system declares people guilty or not guilty. Not guilty does not mean innocent. It means that there has not been sufficient evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt. There is an important difference there.

Yes, Russell Brand is currently telling the court what a devastating effect the allegations have had on him.

Fred West and Harold Shipman's mental health was obviously affected, also.
