I love getting ideas from other peoples meals, I generally cook from scratch and try and avoid UPF but try to take a common sense approach.
I'm feeling board and looking for inspiration.

Monday
Frozen pizza with added toppings, salad.

Tuesday
Burgers, coleslaw and potato wedges
(All homemade except the buns)

Wednesday
Sweet and sour pork with rice
(cooked from scratch)

Tonight we are having chicken fried rice. I'm roasting a chicken and will use some of that, along with the leftover rice from last night and some veg from the fridge and freezer.

Tomorrow I will make a chicken curry with the rest of the chicken.

Sausage and mash, green beans, carrots and cauliflower.
Salmon & rice, cauliflower & brocolli
Pork Goulash, jacket potato, peas, carrots & broccoli
McDonalds one day as it was my daughter’s birthday choice!
Tomorrow is spaghetti & meatballs.

Pork goulash is really nice, I used red and yellow peppers (not green) and it’s more interesting than casserole.

Last week I made ratatouille from scratch following a Julia Child’s French recipe and it was amazing - took ages though. Half the family loved it, the other half tolerated it. We had it with sea bass, again this was loved by me and eldest daughter, less popular with hubs and younger daughter.

Sunday - roast pork, roasties, sprouts, stuffing and veg
Monday - leftover roast pork, chopped up and cooked in leftover King Po sauce, with noodles (I got a new Chinese Takeaway recipe book, so lots from there recently)
Tuesday - minced beef in tomato and smoked paprika sauce, with peppers, baked potato and cheese
Wednesday - chicken fried rice (using previously poached chicken)
Thursday - DH had a pizza, I had more chicken fried rice because I had rice and chicken left over from the night before - waste not, want not!

I haven't decided what we're having tomorrow or Saturday, but I'm planning tea-smoked chicken for Sunday (from the new book)

Edited to add: I've decided Saturday will be Irish stew :)

I'm on mat leave ATM so more time to cook lunches and dinners which is nice!

Have made:

  • Pumpkin soup, which then became pumpkin, leek and potato soup for day 2 with cheesy croutons
  • the viral salmon sushi salad bowl recipe (super delicious!)
  • veggie shepherd's pie with swede and sweet potato mash
  • egg fried rice with grated cabbage and carrots

And a maple, banana, pecan cake 😋

Upside-down banana cake with maple-caramel sauce

Hot toffee sauce makes sticky, warm banana cake even more of a treat

The DC have had reheated meals from the freezer all week (cottage pie, curry etc) with a pile of frozen veg on the side. I've had plain toast because I've been getting in so late I can't be bothered with anything else.

Monday: salmon fried rice with broccoli and spring onion (salmon leftover from Saturday's sesame salmon)
Tuesday: Roast beef #2- we had the full works on Sunday, so on Tuesday I did a do-over just for me, with baked potato instead of roast, leftover cauliflower cheese, gravy and peas.
Wednesday: a kebab from the kebab van, followed by chocolate trifle. Just me on my own again and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thursday: Pasta and meatballs- meatballs from the freezer, I don't think they were homemade cos the texture was more like ready made. The sauce I made from scratch though.
Friday/Saturday: no idea, will be eating out as we're going to visit ds2 at uni.

I like these posts for inspiration when I get stuck in a rut. Our evenings are so busy that I tend to stick to quick easy things that I know everyone will eat.

This week so far we’ve had; a meatball pasta bake, katsu chicken with noodles, taco bowls with wedges and chorizo carbonara. Nothing to set the world alight.

NormasArse · 15/10/2026 22:54

Tue- lentil and veg bolognese with wholewheat spaghetti.
