Anyone else hate their neighbours?

I’m just having a little rant. I hate my neighbours so much. They live as though they are in a detached house rather than a flat in a densely packed building. They ripped out the carpets and put wooden floors in without any consideration for noise. They stomp around with shoes indoors on said wooden floors. They get aggressive if anyone dares to complain and smoke cannabis which makes the building stink.

The building mangers are useless. They don’t do anything other than issue notices to all of the flats about antisocial behaviour but then do nothing about it.

Fortunately I am moving very soon. But I feel sorry for the next tenants. I was always puzzled when I first moved into this flat as to why the previous tenants had moved after only a few months. Now I know why.

WIBU to leave a parting note to the neighbours telling them how awful they are?

Mine hate me more than I dislike them. They were born to live in a detached farmstead à la Father Ted and even then they’d find something to moan about. It’s literally everything. It’s as though the wife, Racist Rachel, complains the second, the absolute moment, that something mildly displeases her. All the complaints relate to the fact that she’s a conspiracy-theory loving paranoid loony, and loathes humanity. Her husband is a bit of a nob and is not surprisingly very uptight.

Latest is her complaining to the neighbours on the other side that she didn’t like the apples falling off their tree into the garden. But wouldn’t let anyone in to cut the branch back because she doesn’t like “intruders.” She got Uptight Brian her husband to hack it off and then pitch it back over the fence which smashed the neighbour’s patio pots. How to win friends and influence people eh?

Inhave never ever met anyone who moans and complains as much as she does. The council now treat her as a vexatious complainant. She’s only in her 30s and they have young kids yet she’s like a fucking coiled spring.

malefields · 13/10/2026 18:16

I have just watched a neighbour’s friend (I think he lives there too actually) yank/break the building door open while maintaining full eye contact so you can guess how I feel.

Theres always something broken and/or trashed in our building. Always.

Notbuiltforheat · 13/10/2026 18:18

Unrelated additional fact: Apple neighbour and my family are not British and some are mixed race. Racist Rachel has a thing about foreign paedophiles. And apples. And dust. And cats. And dogs. And Christmas. And misaligned bins. And lawn mowers.

My upstairs neighbours also behave like they live in a detached house in the middle of a field. I don't know why anyone needs to clomp around their kitchen (directly above my bedroom) in what sounds like hard-soled boots at 4am. Round and round and round. It's like they've never heard of slippers. Fortunately there's no loud music or dope smoking, but the two worst clompers seem to have disappeared, even though mail keeps arriving for them and their dogs are still there, now walked by the new resident (who does not clomp, fortunately). If they're found rolled in carpets in the loft in years to come I won't be surprised.

The flat hasn't changed hands, so it's all a mystery in which I am heavily invested, with frequent internet searches to see if they've shown up somewhere else. I dream of the flat being put up for sale and bought by pensioners wearing slippers on carpet, like the previous owners. How I miss them. (The husband apologised to me once for vacuuming on a Saturday. I must have looked confused because he admitted that he tried to do all the housework on weekdays when I was at work, so as not to disturb me, but had to vacuum because they had people coming over).

It's not a 'flag' its a hate symbol. The guy is a builder and constantly wears football shirts when he's out and about and in his garden. I seriously doubt he's just into vexilology.

Definitely not if he can't even spell it 😬

RaraRachael · 13/10/2026 18:51

I hated mine- a retired couple from Yorkshire. He thought he was the boss of our community and was shocked when he couldn't order people around.

Every member of my family was verbally abused by the woman and we had several items of property damaged.

Gradually they fell out with everyone around them and moved back down to Yorkshire. Unsurprisingly there have been no incidents of any sort since they left.

People like them never realise they are the problem, not everyone else.

Yes, spoilt by years of living next to a little old lady. Now replaced by a family who are always playing loud music, including in the garden all summer. And worst of all, the yelling at their very young DC.

My neighbours are a pair of cannabis junkies. Not a brain cell between them, mental health in the pan, and stoned most of the time. She doesn’t work, he has a job where he gets picked up in a van in the morning. At that point their, I can only assume, stoned dogs start to bark and do so at every single movement in the street for hours . Training is not an option, they’re too thick to do that.

I used to get so stressed with the stench and the racket but I decided not to anymore. Moving isn’t currently an option so the most effort I’ll give them, is to occasionally daydream about when they or their dogs meet their demise, and I will say thank fuck for that. Poor stupid, useless idiots. Inconsiderate, at a level I’ve never seen. Stoned to the point of being in the foetal position when I’ve dropped of a parcel. And again, so thick they don’t know people can and should train their dogs, and probably not subject them to cannabis air all day and night. No wonder the dogs are also mental.

Quite enjoyed getting that off my chest.

Not a silly question, but how do you know the dogs are stoned?? How would dogs become high??

Oh Debbie's woken up and looking for food.

I think maybe her internet was down for a bit...

Gettingbysomehow · 13/10/2026 20:23

My neighbour used to smoke some filthy brand of cheap cigarettes all night in the room right next to my bedroom. It made my bedroom smell like an 80's pub.
I went round there at 5am one morning and gave him both barrels and havent smelt any fags since then.
Quite frankly I was at the end of my rope getting no sleep before work. My next house is going to be detached even if I have to live in a shed.

Sherararara · 13/10/2026 20:25

Pretty sure most of MN hate their neighbours.

My neighbour has a St George's flag hanging from a pole outside his front garden. I'm tempted to sneak out at night and cut it down but I think he's a tradesperson so I'm afraid he'll attack me if he found out it was me.

I’m so sorry, I think I’ve misunderstood your post. You think that he’s more likely to attack someone because he’s a tradie?

Why would a tradesperson be more likely to attack you rather than anyone else?

Debbie Savage just likes to wind people up. There’s no point responding to it.

4noisykids · 13/10/2026 20:36

Yes I have awful neighbours. However, at least it’s getting cold now, so I won’t have to listen to 30 people yelling and screaming in the garden for hour after hour for another few months.

LondonLass2026 · 13/10/2026 20:39

Yep.

Spoken about her plenty on here, my neighbour on the right is an alcoholic who doesn't work. It's clear the minute she gets up (around 1pm) as the music comes on. Then that's it until midnight. She has Sonos speakers all around the house, and we're terraced so the noise is crazy.

She literally sits in the house 24/7. No friends, no work, nothing. Just plays music all day. Her teenage daughter lives there and is fast turning into her mother.

When she's really drunk she starts texting shit to my partner. She sometimes even slags me off to him when I've literally done nothing to her 😂. She knows I don't like her as I'm very bad at pretending I like someone when I don't. But I've never fallen out with her despite her being such a cunt.

She has a yappy dog who she can't control and has never walked, and never clears the weeds in front of her house - they often grow over to our windows.

I just hate her so much, we've both tried so hard with her but it's impossible.

Why would a tradesperson be more likely to attack you rather than anyone else?

The notoriously brutal reputation of plumbers? The famously brutal revenge campaigns of carpenters?😃

Thewonderfuldollypartonsbra · 13/10/2026 20:45

We bought our house and had lovely neighbours

One sold and the other (council) died

The bought side are lovely but the council side are fucking awful

Banging on our door at all hours to scream at us ('I'm phoning your landlord to get you out!')

Stand outside while screaming down their phones all day

Stand outside if they hear us close our door and stand staring at us (I think they do this as they think it makes them look tough-it doesn't,they just look pathetic)

Allow their dogs to bark all day

Force their dogs to come in our garden to have a shit

They don't talk, they shout at each other

Dump their rubbish in our garden

Have bad mouthed us all down the street (we don't care)

Sit on their ring doorbell for 'proof' of us causing trouble (we don't so they have no footage)

Rang the police on us for leaving the house during covid

Rang the police on us for daring to park on 'their' street

Are racist (we are white but I'm sick of hearing 'n' ,and 'p' words along with 'boat people' and have an england flag instead of curtains)

Once tried to attack me in the street when I was on crutches

Is committing benefit fraud while constantly phoning anyone they can think of to get us into trouble

Rang the police on us to report ds's dog-apparently he's 'dangerous'

What actually happened was their dog went for him and they span the story around to blame us

I did contact the council and it's put them back in their box-i think the threat of losing their house was enough

Bullies are cowards that lurk in the dark and I will always drag them into the light

I moved because of two sets (one either side) of the worse neighbours I've ever known. They were both so bad it was surreal. One side had a hot tub, played loud music in the garden from 2pm until midnight every night during the pandemic and shouted to each other over it all.

The other side was a cokehead who screamed from 3am until 10am at least twice a week and usually started screaming about how excited she was before she went out, it was Saturday, it was Christmas, on and on. She was arrested, her child was taken off her and yet she still continued.

Both were very sensitive to other people's noise though. Between them they nearly broke my health and it took me years to properly recover.

I hope you are moving somewhere quiet.

MissRaspberryRipples · 13/10/2026 21:00

Cannot stand my awful neighbour honestly she thinks she owns the damn street. She has a daughter who also lives a few doors up. Always full of drama the amount of arguments we've heard over the years is ridiculous and it's always from either the horrible cow next door or from her daughter and her boyfriend. Shouting and screaming at one another all the time. The one next door has bashed on my door countless times saying my kids are noisy and she's sick of it yet her and her adult daughter cause more chaos and noise than any of my kids playing. She's threatened to smash my face in more times than I care to remember, I've filed a few police reports on her for harassment. She's filmed my partner outside my house. She even tried to tell me that her rough gypsy cousin was in her house waiting for the nod to come out and batter me cos my kids were apparently waking up her kids, she said to me look my cousins looking out my window waiting to come out-there was nobody up her window at all, the woman is unhinged. My daughter who was 18 at the time only popped to the shop on the street with her boyfriend and she came out ranting and raving at her threatening to batter her calling her a dirty slag and telling her boyfriend that she's a dirty little cheater who brings loads of different lads to my house(she didn't the woman was just out for trouble) she told my daughter go on you little slag tell your mum too cos I'll splatter her across the street too. She harasses everyone. She harassed a girl in the shop last year who lives across the road calling her a tramp and telling her go on move out the street cos no one fucking wants you here. I hear her outside talking to people about me and my kids she says I hate her next door I'm gonna get her kicked out cos don't want her next door to me we're good people and don't want riffraff. This coming from a woman in her late 50s and I've heard her arguments she's had cars full of people come after her to the point she's shouting in to her husband to go get the gun cos people are coming after them!!! Her latest was her banging on my door two weeks ago at 9.30pm again threatening to smash my face in and saying she apparently has months and months of video footage of my adult daughter and her boyfriend who don't even live with me outside my house til 5am keeping them awake and that she's calling the police on me for noise disturbance I told her go ahead. Her granddaughter who lives with her goes to school with my 10year old and has been bullying my daughter to the point she's saying stuff to her like I'm gonna get my nan to come batter your mum. Obviously reported the bullying to school. The neighbour even said oh I know you've gone to the school about my granddaughter bullying your kid too you grassing fucking bitch. She said something to my eldest as she was here visiting and my daughter said she's not done anything she said get out here I'll smash your fucking face in too my daughter said to her what did I do she said giving me fucking lip just. It's ridiculous. We're trying to move. Police have now issued her with community protection notices but I can imagine she will breach them at some point because she's so unhinged and thinks it's ok to bully anyone who doesn't agree with her

Spaniels4Eva · 13/10/2026 21:01

Ours moved in opposite us about 6 years ago, and are so incredibly noisy. They're not bad people per se but they're completely unaware of the amount of noise they make. He jet washes his cars at the weekend with a radio on full blast. He's got a noisy motorbike he likes to just start up and rev. They built an outside bar in lockdown that they use most weekends. Everything they do is at max volume, even just coming in at night and banging car doors, slamming their gates. It's relentless.

And the neighbours to the side of us are an older couple (40s) with 2 young kids and they're just as bad. He's got a gym set up in the garage next to our living room and is out there banging and crashing till all hours. The kids clearly don't sleep, so it's not unusual for them to be outside by 6am... screaming and whining. I actually shouted one morning when it was 5am and I'd stupidly left the bedroom window open in the heatwave. There's just no thought that other people don't want to absorb their noise.

I don't quite understand - are tradesmens, so electricians, gas fitters decorators etc violent as a type of people? May need to notify many people I know that they may be dangerous.......
