That threads like these are just a way for people to be nasty.

Of course they are, and I will die on the hill that everyone has a bit of nasty in them but ultimately there is often truth in that ‘nasty’ and forcing them to bottle it up leads to much worse things than a thread

Gentle parenting is shit.

I think the opposite - gentle parenting is brilliant as long as those practicing it understand it and don't confuse it with permissive parenting. Firm rules and boundaries, teaching how to manage emotion and communicate appropritately without losing your shit and becoming aggressive.

Also Richard III had nothing to gain from killing the prices in the tower. Are you telling me that Henry would have come over to kill Richard just to give the crown back to Eddy VI

We will never know but if, on becoming king, Henry had discovered that the princes were still alive, well then…

We need outright war.

I would not wish it at all. We have some unstable world leaders. Capable of doing all manner of untold damage to millions of people. Some are doing it now.
We do not need war. We need better world leaders.

There is a radio series of comedy plays called "The Penny Dreadfuls Presents...." which does alternative retellings of famous stories. One is Richard III and it is very good, I highly recommend them.

But as you say, Richard gained nothing from killing the Princes as they had already been declared illegitimate and therefore couldnt take the throne.

Starving yourself won’t make your face anymore attractive.
The younger generations aren’t as selfish or entitled as the older generations.

😂😂

Oh now that's an interesting topic. I'm not saying these things keep me awake at night... ...but I'm not not saying it either.

  1. One size fits all. No, it doesn't. Unless we're all apparently the same shape as a medium-sized potato.
  2. Paying extra for sauce in a restaurant or chip shop. You've charged me £14 for a burger. Don't come at me for another 50p for ketchup.
  3. Toilet paper so thin you need half a roll per visit. False economy. We've all done the maths.
  4. Trout pout lips. Why are people voluntarily trying to look like they've kissed a vacuum cleaner?
  5. False eyelashes the size of loo brushes. If they generate their own weather system, they've gone too far.
  6. Fake tan that leaves people looking Tango'd. Nobody should glow brighter than a traffic cone.
  7. Drawn-on eyebrows that arrive ten minutes before the owner. At that point they're travelling separately.
  8. Decorative cushions. "Please make yourself comfortable." Removes 14 cushions before sitting down.
  9. Self-defrosting freezers that need defrosting. Especially when the engineer arrives and says, "Well, have you tried defrosting it?"
  10. Packets of nuts labelled 'MAY CONTAIN NUTS'. Do ya think?
  11. Artificial grass. Looks realistic for about two weeks. Then it resembles Astroturf outside a secondary school sports hall.
  12. People on speakerphone in public. Congratulations. We all know Sharon's had enough of Gary.
  13. Music played through a phone speaker on a bus. A public service nobody requested.
  14. Ripped jeans that cost more than intact jeans. Paying extra for less fabric is an economic mystery.
  15. Banana protectors. Nature already invented one. It's called a banana skin.
  16. Egg cookers. Unless you're feeding a hotel buffet, a saucepan was already doing an excellent job.
  17. Smart water bottles that remind you to drink. For several million years humanity successfully relied on something called thirst.
  18. Smart toasters. If your toaster needs Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a firmware update before it can brown a slice of Hovis... ...civilisation has peaked and begun the descent.

I also find it interesting that the current Royal Family has refused permission for DNA tests to be carried out on the presumed skeletal remains.

Uricon2 · 13/10/2026 15:40

Apart from the fact that it happened, an excellent proof of the Moon landing is the fact that Neil Armstrong was feted after returning from said Moon on a tour of the then USSR, including meeting Valentina Tereshkova under a massive picture of the by then deceased Yuri Gagarin smiling benignly down.

The Russians really, really, really wanted to get there first and were monitoring the whole thing. If it hadn't happened, be sure we would have heard, but it did and they accepted it.

This is a hill I would die on.

  1. vaccination is necessary for the health of the whole population
  2. first aid and cooking from basic ingredients should be taught in schools
  3. graffiti is not art it is what makes our cities look shit
  4. people who fly tip and litter have no respect for others

It was Edward V. Edward VI was Henry Viii’s son.
By the time Henry VII came over and fought Richard iii the view was that the Princes were long dead. Nobody had seen them since the late summer/early autumn of 1483.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/10/2026 15:43

Banana protectors. Nature already invented one. It's called a banana skin.

So says someone who has never had a banana explode over the last clean nappy in the nappy bag.......

I'm torn between agreeing wholeheartedly with the important bit of your comment and being unreasonably annoyed that you didn't say "full stop". Americanisation is a curse.

Mine is that the obsession with trans people on here is no different than other forms of radicalisation - and just as dangerous.

ETA: Also anyone who describes themselves as a 'trans widow' and compares their husband's transition to someone losing their husband is disgusting and should be shunned by all.

Yes but surely you can see that "May contain nuts" ON A PACK OF NUTS is....well, nuts!

As Wonko the Sane points out in "So Long and Thanks For All The Fish" about needing instructions on a packet of toothpicks.

RanyaJerodung · 13/10/2026 15:47

Mine is that people who subscribe to silly conspiracy theories should be forced to look at evidence and get properly informed.
