  1. We live in a society now where many are so entitled they ask what society owes them, not what they can do for society;

The hill I will die on is that gentle parenting/authoritative parenting is wonderful and I truly believe the world would be kinder, calmer and generally a nicer place to live if it was the norm. Those that think otherwise I encourage to read up on it properly, because most of those I see against it believe it is ‘lazy parenting’, never saying no, no boundaries and allowing the child to walk all over them, which is not the case and could not be more wrong. There are very clear boundaries and if done as intended it is hard work, needs a lot of patience and is very much the long game. The older DD gets the more I can see how much she has benefited from it, and I would not change that for anything.

They aren't the same thing.
In your version of gentle parenting, how do you enforce not walloping your parents/sister/doing your homework/brushing your teeth?

Do the Middle Eastern religions have anthropomorphism of deities? Which ones?

come on, I'm using the term deities loosely to describe a phenomenon, not specifically in terms of Hinduism, Shinto etc

the anthropomorphism of the various gods in man's own inflated image is documented in all the major monotheistic religious texts- that is incontrovertible

Yes, but the hill I'll - not die on, but stick a big flag on - is that there have always been people who write perfectly and others who don't. It's the quality of ideas expressed that matters. I think it's good that everyone has a voice nowadays and the ancient gatekeepers no longer get to dominate the stories that are told. Of course, like any human advancement, it's a double-edged sword, but I prefer the current setup to the intellectual snobbery that once ruled the publishing world. The English language is not dying out or becoming corrupted; it's always evolving, always expanding, and there is always room for people who care about the rules and those who push the envelope a little. As well as people who don't give a toss either way and are just saying something. I'll listen, as long as they have something to say.

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that the English language is as pure as a crib-house whore. It not only borrows words from other languages; it has on occasion chased other languages down dark alley-ways, clubbed them unconscious and rifled their pockets for new vocabulary.

Father Christmas is just another religion for children but actually one they will definitely sooner or later realise is a lie and sets children up for cynicism for life

I agree with this, in a way. I never believed in Santa, my grandmother openly sneered at the concept, and my parents didn’t bother to use stories to moralise me: they knew it didn’t work at all, I took pride in knowing that stories were made up. (I did briefly believe in the tooth fairy, but it wasn’t used as a moral for cleaning teeth.) I remember this dialogue between my dad and my brother, he was seven or eight at the time:

Dad (reading Roald Dahl’s The Witches): In fairy tales, witches wear silly black hats and cloaks, and they ride on broomsticks. But this is not a fairy tale: this is about REAL witches.
Brother: (anxiously) Is this true?
Dad: (without hesitation) No.

Cows milk is for baby cows, not humans.

They are forcibly impregnated and have their babies ripped away from them just so humans can drink bovine breast milk. Madness!

Agree! It also tastes like an animal’s back end - I’m not even vegan myself, and will eat dairy in a pinch, but it really is revolting

I let my dog lick my face, sometimes even on the lips.

I can go out in the world and meet an unpredictable woman and I can only trust to providence whether she’s clean or not.
Unless she smells worse than a dog, which don’t smell if you look after them.

For transparency I’m not British by birth but I lived in the UK longer that the country I was born in. I am (and my DH as well) are both what people would qualify as high earners, and would say we contributed more than we have taken (considering we didn’t even get child benefit) and I’m ok with that. My argument would be as follows benefits need to have an end date - not indefinite, unless you have an incapacity or carer for children/adults with disabilities. For British and non British alike. Also those who haven’t contributed to the system shouldn’t be able to claim - British or non British. And my other argument would be - why not become one? The cost is prohibitive for many when I did mine (which was not that long ago) it was £1200. I would hazard a guess it’s not a cost that many can afford especially if it’s a couple wit children - in my case it was only me as my husband is British.

I don’t disagree with some of what you say especially regarding high earners. Non British citizens though, shouldn’t be entitled to any benefits unless they’ve paid in to the system for a set number of years and those on minimum wage jobs longer. If they lose their job and can’t afford to stay out with that, then they would have to move back to their home country. I think that’s fair.

There is a very clear hierarchy of European cuisine, and it significantly overlaps with visual beauty of particular countries. Italy is at the top. Bulgaria is at the bottom with Malta scraping next to bottom.

Additionally abd answering the OP question…

“Strictly” is boring, formulaic, totally unsexy and makes me want to saw my leg off.

A stranger’s dog went for me and bit me recently! I wouldn’t put up with that from a stranger lady either 😁

Point still stands

Religion has zero to do with why the earth formed 4.6 billion years ago, the astrological events that happened in this portion of the universe occurred by cosmic fluke and not God's will

There was a chance in the dim and distance past for some form of "religion" to be a moral guide, but it the entire concept was bastardised for power, conquest and hiding of knowledge - in case people discovered by using science that we weren't at the centre of the universe, after all

How does your point still stand when Mohammed was a man and not anthropomorphism of a deity?

awaynboilyurheid · 13/10/2026 20:52

That religion is just man made rubbish and causes far too much conflict, my pretend god is better than your pretend God, total nonsense , and woman are subjugated with it in many societies while men swan around.
God if he even existed would not care a jot if you eat this or can’t eat that or wear this or can’t wear that ,
it’s simply madness.
Dogs are smelly and slobbery and should be kept on leads, there should be a closed off bit off the park for them and children should be able to run around the rest not the other way around, hotels restaurants do not need to be dog friendly I’d rather go to one that will not have dogs.

Tatoos do not make you edgy or a rebel and don’t look nice.
Children should not have screens till much older , it’s lazy parenting stuck on a screen or parents phone.
