Would you buy a house that has two showers and no bath?

I'd like to get rid of our bath and install a shower cubicle which would free up some much needed storage space in our small family bathroom.

No one in our household has had a bath in years and I feel a shower cubicle would work better for us (me and two adult DC).

The master bedroom already has a small en-suite shower room which DH uses.

But I'm concerned no bath could put people off buying when we sell up in a few years time (5+ years).

Would you be happy buying a house with no bath?

The house we currently live in has 2 showers and no bath. We bought it having one kid already and 2nd on the way. We would have preferred one bath at least but we didn't make it the deciding factor. I have foldable baths for the kids (3 now) and grandparents are happy when they come to stay as is much safer for them. I honestly don't think is such a big deal.

We have a 5 bed 3 bath with large showers in each. Don’t regret ripping out the plastic bath with shower for a minute. It wasn’t a selling feature and a bath can be reinstalled if anyone wants to.

It would put me off as I would have to immediately do the work and pay to have a bath reinstalled. I would expect the price of the house to reflect this additional cost.

I have a pain condition and I take baths regularly to help manage this. However, as others have pointed out, you could leave the plumbing and reinstall a bath fairly cheaply before putting it back on the market.

Yes I got rid of my bath five years ago. I now have a large shower cubicle. I rarely used the bath and don't miss it.

Monty36 · 14/10/2026 18:10

It would not bother me at all. And especially I would not buy a bath that needed legs of 6ft to get into it safely.
Have not had a bath for years. The amount of water used would bother me.
Very much a shower person.

Myli1 · 14/10/2026 18:11

No, I wouldn’t buy a house without a bath unless there was plenty of space to easily re-install one. I like a full soak so fitted an extra large 1900 x 800 bath in our house!

Ness1234 · 14/10/2026 18:13

Any house we would buy would have to have a bath. We don’t like showers.

Team bath

We have a shower room and a bath room - the bath hasn't been used for a good 10 years! I would have no problem buying a house without a bath but understand that for young families it might not work as well - but you may find a family with teenagers would much prefer two showers...

WittyTaupeLion · 14/10/2026 18:15

A lot of people rip out what you put in anyway! Love how you want to!

BIossomtoes · 14/10/2026 18:15

Another team bath. I wouldn’t entertain a house without one.

Philandbill · 14/10/2026 18:16

I would but DH wouldn't. And I couldn't move without him. 😍

ANGIEPANGY77 · 14/10/2026 18:16

Sure, as one who despises tub baths.

OtiMama · 14/10/2026 18:17

I would always have said I wouldn't buy a house without a bath but then we did and we have young children. It was the only downside to the house and the positives far outweighed it. Our kids have got used to having showers.

The house sold X3 times prior to us buying it (their buyers lost their sale), so there was definitely enough interest in the house without a bath.

PeachyPeachTrees · 14/10/2026 18:19

A young family will want a bath and are less likely to have a spare £5k to turn a shower back into a bath. So probably a deal breaker. Some people would still buy it but it may stay on the market longer or sell for a bit less.

linsey2581 · 14/10/2026 18:19

Oh I would definitely buy a house with 2 showers. We have a bath with shower over it but I haven’t used the bath in about a year. I a can’t be bothered waiting on it filling up, plus our son is epileptic so not allowed to use the bath.

BubblingBobbling · 14/10/2026 18:22

This has opened my eyes quite a bit, I had no idea so many people still used baths regularly.

We are updating the bathroom in a few months so have decided to go for a bigger shower cubicle, DC and I never take baths and DH is highly unlikely to either and as others have said it's makes more sense to design our bathroom around our current needs.

If and when the time comes to sell and feedback tells us it's not selling due to lack of a bath we'll decided then if we need to put a bath back in it's place.

I've also had a quick look on sold houses in our area and there are quite a few that have sold with no baths. We are quite a sort after village so it may not even be a problem come the time?

We moved to our (2 showers no bath) farmhouse when our children were 4 & 6. I wondered whether it would be an issue as they’d always had baths at our previous cottage, but it was fine. So a house not having a bath didn’t and wouldn’t put me off buying a house. If yours is a typical starter home / house for a young family though, I would keep the bath - no bath would have put me off when we had babies / very young children.

Blindinglybaffled · 14/10/2026 18:23

Go for the smallest bath you can with a shower over. Unless you are not planning to sell for 15/20years it’s not worth limiting potential buyers.

I'm wouldn't, I'd miss a bath. People saying it's not that difficult to put in a bath later, it would be costly and a lot of mess and upheaval. You'd have to redo the plumbing, wall and floor tiles etc.

Isthismykarma · 14/10/2026 18:27

I’d keep the bath because people on this thread seem to care about which has been an eye opener for me. I rarely take baths.
Maybe get some clever storage?

ThaTrìCaitAgam · 14/10/2026 18:29

Yes! It would be a plus for me!

BerryTwister · 14/10/2026 18:29

There's no doubt that a reasonable number of people would be put off by a lack of bath. Not everyone, but quite a few. Ultimately you have to decide how much you want the extra storage space. Do you want it enough possibly have to sell your house for less than you otherwise could? That's a question only you can answer.

Nottodaybob · 14/10/2026 18:30

For me it would depend on the state of the house.

I tend to only buy dilapidated messes, so any bathroom is going to be replaced regardless.if the bathroom were new and not in need of replacing, then no I wouldn't because I love baths.
