Would you buy a house that has two showers and no bath?

I'd like to get rid of our bath and install a shower cubicle which would free up some much needed storage space in our small family bathroom.

No one in our household has had a bath in years and I feel a shower cubicle would work better for us (me and two adult DC).

The master bedroom already has a small en-suite shower room which DH uses.

But I'm concerned no bath could put people off buying when we sell up in a few years time (5+ years).

Would you be happy buying a house with no bath?

Personally I wouldn’t buy a house without a bath - or room for a bath - and most people with small children like one. I’m older and know quite a few people my age who can’t use baths so wouldn’t mind just showers.

My husband always showers, but would be happy with a shower and screen on a bath.
I have a bath with a thermostatic hand set but no screen, he has a proper shower elsewhere in the house.

it;s easy and not v costly to reinstate a bath if wanted, so i'd do what suits you now. If it's asticking point on future sale, you could replace or offer decrease in price to cover the cost of the work, I think it would be £500 max based on what we've had done recently,

It depends how you've reconfigured the bathroom when taking it out. Removing the shower cubicle is likely to mean ripping out tiling & fixtures, plumbing work and making good. Where i live the cost of a bath plus the labour and costs of the work above could easily be 2-3k.

My H would want a bath, BUT if there wasn’t one , and the house was in the right place, we would just put a bath in - no big deal. I think for most people this wouldn’t be a deal breaker, some things would be - number of bedrooms, garden size, area, srorage etc,

I would never buy a house without a bath, but I would be ok with installing tha bath myself if it wasn't too big a job.

When we bought our current house it had a bath but it was in bad need of replacement

Harmonypuss · 14/10/2026 21:15

Baths? Yuk!
Why on earth would anyone ever want to sit and wallow in their own filth?
Yes, some will say it's relaxing and they stand up and shower when they are about to get out.
So what's the point of the bath if you're going to shower as well.
Think of all the water you're wasting.
Give me a property with just a shower/ showers and no bath.
Actually, I recently bought a property that has both a bath and shower cubicle in the bathroom and plan to rip out the bath ASAP!

AmnesiacDream · 14/10/2026 21:31

I prefer two showers over a bath and a shower. And especially two showers and storage. Wouldn't buy a house without a walk in shower unless the price reflected the need to install one. Even when the kids were little it wouldn't have put me off, we'd have just got a plastic tub while they were small.

But I think if it's likely you'll be selling in the next 5 years and it's the sort of house that would otherwise most appeal to people with young children or with young children in mind, that a lack of a bath might put off more buyers than two good showers would attract.

Goodgriefisthatrue · 14/10/2026 22:00

I bath everyday- I would not buy a house without one.

Missey85 · 14/10/2026 22:17

Yes I would 😊 but I've never been a fan of baths I prefer showers 💕

24HourNappyPeople · 14/10/2026 22:18

We’ve just moved and have a four year old. The house we purchased only has a shower but ticked every other box so we bought it. My DD is not thrilled about showers being so little. If she’d been littler still I might have thought twice but there’s always scope to put one back in.

Nayone · 14/10/2026 22:19

I would.

Yes someone who agrees with me I hate baths I don't want to sit in dirty tepid water I don't find it relaxing at all 😂

Sofflespop · 14/10/2026 22:20

Funny we are all so different - the main reason I have baths is due to EDS, I use handfuls of Epsom salts for magnesium - and it is one of my best forms of pain relief. I also have pots so I keep it warm not hot. So I definitely would want a bath in a property - but as long as the bathroom was big enough to fit one myself then it wouldn’t stop me buying a house. I hope you are doing ok healthwise, both conditions are tough x

Cornishclio · 14/10/2026 22:20

It would not put me off. We have one big family bathroom and a downstairs
WC and we removed the bath in the bathroom about 10 years ago to replace the tiny corner shower cubicle with a walk in double size shower. DH is tall and limbs all over the place. We never used the bath and if it needed to go back it would fit in the space and the plumbing is already there. We are in our 60s though and DH has already had one serious op which meant using a stool in the shower so a bath would not be used much of the time. We figured it was best to configure the house for our use rather than worry about selling it at some indeterminate time in the future. It is a family sized house (4 beds) so no doubt at some point someone may put one back in.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 14/10/2026 22:22

Absolutely not.

We've lived in our house 19 years. We have three showers and one bath. In all that time I've had three baths and DH has never ever had a bath (although he is always very fragrant). Our holiday home has 4 showers and 1 bath and again, I've used the bath a couple of times - I don't think DH even knows where it is!

That being said I would never get rid of the baths. Different people of different ages have varying needs and preferences and not having a bath would probably limit any resale appeal.

DonttouchthatLarry · 14/10/2026 22:37

It wouldn't put me off - our house had no bath when we bought it so the first thing we did was put one in. It's not a deal breaker if it's the right house.

Happyjoe · 14/10/2026 22:40

If the room is big enough to put a bath back in, no it wouldn't put me off. But a bath is a must in our house.

TurquoiseBananas · 14/10/2026 22:42

No I wouldn't buy or live anywhere without a bath. I love a bath - it's one of my main ways to relax. I suppose if a house was otherwise perfect I might reluctantly consider buying and adding a bath back in but definitely a big negative for me.

spotddog · 14/10/2026 22:43

Yes, I’d buy in a breath.

SeraphionLightbringer · 14/10/2026 22:52

Have the house the way you want it, don’t think about possible buyers and what they ‘might’ want. Firstly, you might not move in 5 years time. Secondly, a lot of buyers also aren’t interested in baths (I’m one of them)

ITMA2000 · 14/10/2026 22:53

We would, as long as it was feasible to add a bath. If not, we wouldn't buy. Nothing is as relaxing as soaking in a hot tub after a stressful day!

Snookercucumbers · 14/10/2026 22:55

Just do what is right for you now. If someone wants to put a bath in again in the future then they can. Many people would be happy with 2 showers. You might not even move for longer than that and wish you had taken the bath out.

Cherryicecreamx · 14/10/2026 22:56

Nope my number one priority is a bath 😅

rosagarten · 14/10/2026 22:56

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath in it. Even though I rarely have baths, I do like to have the option. If in doubt, I'd keep the bath.

sherbetlemonade · 14/10/2026 22:57

I would turn a house down if it didn't have a bath.

MistyMountainTop · 14/10/2026 22:59

We have a shower room for us, and a bath with a shower over for visitors. Guess what? All the visitors prefer to use our shower than the shower over the bath, which is why when we move, any baths are being replaced with showers!
