Islamophobia becoming normalised in the media

Genuinely shocked by this headline on MSN.com today (UK site).

The title is

"Muslim convert explains why UK is 'best' as she boasts 'everything is free'"

No one seems to blink an eye at this blatant Islamophobia anymore.

Substitute Muslim for any other minority and people would be shocked for example:

  • "Jewish convert explains why UK is 'best' as she boasts 'everything is free'"
  • "Black person explains why UK is 'best' as she boasts 'everything is free'"
  • "Christian convert explains why UK is 'best' as she boasts 'everything is free'"

Muslim convert explains why UK is 'best' as she boasts 'everything is free'

Oh, I have researched it. My father fled an islamic country because he didn't want his wife and daughters to suffer what he had to witness his mother and sisters enduring as he grew up.

He fled to the West to save us, you know, the evil civilisation that gave women autonomy, the vote and equal rights. How dare you say other men's evil is all their fault. Why do you infantalise rapists and murderers?

Have you actually done any research yourself, or just relied on the lies told to you? I have noticed those that like to throw out the 'Well I'm not going to tell you my knowledge for some inexpliacble reason, go 'research' it' never seem to have any actual points of their own.

Perhaps you can answer this then.

What are women promised in heaven, specifically?

The book is very detailed when it comes to describing what men will get as a reward in heaven. Luxury, eternal youth, eternal virgin hooris (minimum of two up to 72).

And equally it describes the majority of hell dwellers being women, because of their 'ingratitude' to their husbands. But, if they are really grateful and pious, they will have all 'imperfections' (like periods, aging and illness) stripped from them, so they can serve their husband and his army of whores in all eternity. Or she can burn in hell.

Lovely.

No doubt this poster will still think they know better than you 🙄

I’m so pleased you all managed to get away and to be able to share your experiences with others, who think they know better.

I have friends both ex Muslim and still Muslim, some that are first generation or second generation immigrants in the UK.

You must be so proud of your father's, he sounds like a very intelligent and strong man that was able to think you himself rather than be brainwashed by his upbringing. What he did took so much courage too. My Muslim/ex Muslim friends stories about their families reasons to flee that strict inhuman life blew my mind when I first heard them.

I find that rather sad. I am an atheist but I have friends with all manner of different religious and spiritual beliefs.

I don't share their beliefs they are fantastic people who enrich my life in so many ways.

I agree. I would describe myself as agnostic but also have friends who have a range of different beliefs. I find it enriching and interesting. The sort of people that I would choose to be friends with, and perhaps vice versa, are those who are quite open minded and accepting of those with different opinions and beliefs. I wouldn't be drawn to someone who was extremely dogmatic and judgemental.
When I first met my closest Muslim friend as a young woman, I would question her about Islam, including aspects that I disliked, and she always responded openly and never took offence. She would also quite frequently join us on nights out, when the rest of us were drinking alcohol and would sometimes offer a lift home as the non drinker (not expected but much appreciated).

Why would you announce to a religious person that their beliefs were a waste of time @Munchie1965? That seems to be the opposite of what I am talking about.

Whatifitallgoesright · 19/10/2026 11:44

There are indeed extremists in most religions, and I don't like those either. But I don't think they are the majority in any religion, and I'm not sure that banning all religions to solve the problem of extremism is fair or proportionate, when that would mean taking away something that is a source of comfort and meaning to so many other people.

The numbers on terrorist attacks around the world have been overwhelmingly Islamic for years.
