DH is vegetarian so he is having roasted potatos, roasted whole onions with mixed herbs, butternut squash topped with crushed walnuts and a drizzle of honey, creamed leeks, peas, and cranberry sauce.

DCs and I are not vegetarian so we are having the above plus roasted marinated chicken drumsticks.

I cannot wait!!

Not a roast but I am making a vat of beef in beer, we'll have tonight with baked spuds and green veg, and I'll freeze 5 portions for two and it will do a quick mid week meal for five weeks.

1.2 k of braising steak
Onions
Carrots
Celery
Mushrooms
Beer
Beef stock.

All I need to do is lift my bum from the sofa off MNet and get on with it.

Oooh I think I am missing yorkshires. I'll go buy some later (I love to cook, but yorkshires never turn out well for me).

We have a lovely silverside of beef in the slow cooker with stock and veg. Its lovely and tender when we do it in slow cooker. My husband makes gorgeous roasties but the current seasonal potatoes aren't great for roasties. We have frozen yorkie's although I did used to home make them.

Scrambledomelette · 11/10/2026 12:43

Roast pork with stuffing, roast potatoes, mashed swede, broccoli, bread sauce (which I know isn’t traditional but I don’t care!). Can’t wait 😋

My Dad said the trick with yorkies was to a) get enough air in them, whisk them fast until the top is covered in little air bubbles and b) preheat the tray.

Today we are having gammon - it is currently simmering away on the hob with some black peppercorns, a clove of garlic, a whole dried chilli and a tablespoon of apple sauce. I usually use 50/50 water & either apple or pineapple juice but we didn't have any fruit juice. Once it is done I'll let it rest, then later on I'll baste it with some honey & mustard and stick it in the oven for 40 minutes. We'll have it with (probably) mash, carrots, green beans and some parsley sauce. Followed by raspberry cheesecake.

Try the Mary Berry recipe - works every time. Just make sure that the oven and fat in the pudding tray are hot enough.

Duncantoldme2 · 11/10/2026 12:58

We're having a big roast chicken (free range - kinder to animals and it tastes strange otherwise), roast potatoes and Greek salad. Delish.

I usually do my gammon in cider but will try pineapple juice next time, sounds fantastic!

Do you mean a full sized brown onion, roasted?

BCBird · 11/10/2026 13:11

If I was having a roast it would be loin of pork, apple sauce, roast and steamed potatoes, cabbage, carrots, parsnips, roasted shallots, stuffing with sausage meat and gravy. Looooove a roast. It would be my death row meal!!!!

yes!

It's gorgeous. I do medium to large ones. I peel the skin off, then drizzle olive oil, scatter mixed herbs and then roast until soft. Usually about 20-30 minutes (I do everything on auto pilot so not sure exactly). It is truly lovely and delicious. My mother used to do it. DH was Hmm first time I did it but he is a convert now.
