Jewish people are nine times more likely than Muslims to be victims of hate crime, according to the latest Home Office data.

The figures reveal that Jewish people faced hate crimes at a rate of 116.5 offences per 10,000 people last year, compared with 13.3 per 10,000 for Muslims.

Official data also show that racially and religiously motivated hate crime recorded by police hit record highs.

Religious hate crimes targeting Jewish people were up by 10 per cent from the year before, to 3,162, while crimes against Muslims rose by 15 per cent, to 5,132.

The latest Home Office data were published a day after a number of arrests were made at protests and demonstrations in London on the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.

Just because there is always a group worse off in the world, that does not excuse you minimising what is happening to Jews here re the rise in antisemitism.

The Home Office data points to a serious problem in society. The rise in hate crimes negatively affects both Jewish people and Muslim people. British Jews & Muslims are not responsible for what is happening in the rest of the world.

Thank you for saying this. I’m so tired and increasingly angry with the expectation that Jews must openly condemn what is happening in Gaza in order to be acceptable and permitted to walk about safely. Every news article covering attacks on Jewish communities, have stacks of comments underneath, on the lines of ‘Well, what do they expect if they are killing thousands of children’. Like every British Jew is beaming themselves to Gaza, killing little kids and beaming themselves back home again and doing the washing up.

People need wake up around here. It was utterly disgraceful having pro Gaza rallies on October 7th.

Muslims should also be more vocal in their condemnation of the sexual violence and just violence in general perpetrated towards innocent women and children in their homes or at nova but I don’t hear a word from them either. It seems in 2026 sexual violence and violence against children is ok so long as the victim is Jewish

It's a form of racism to blame a whole community for what is happening in an overseas conflict.

Collective blame is not a good look and Jewish people in the UK do not deserve it.

What exactly are we considering hate crimes now? Because last I heard, being "misgendered" was reported as one.

I can honestly say being misgendered isn't an issue for most Jewish people. Getting called a child killer simply for wearing something that identifies as Jewish or being chased and assaulted for wearing your school uniform or having windows smashed for being a Jewish business is more what we call hate crimes. Hope that clears up your obviously sincere question.

So you’re saying the antisemitism is ok towards a Jew that doesn’t condemn what’s happening in Gaza? I usually avoid these threads as it stresses me out and coming on and reading comments like yours reminds me why.

I dont think British Jews should be blamed for Israel is doing/ has done to Gaza at all. But...there needs to be a Not in My Name as people in the Uk aren't seeing it being condemned by UK Jews.

Plenty of UK Jews have said they are no fan of Netanyahu or extreme members of his government. Plenty have expressed sympathy for innocent Palestinians.

It seems to me that a lot of the antisemitism in this country is coming from islamists and the Islamophobic attacks are coming from the far right.

None of what's happening in Gaza is being done in the name of Judaism. It's being done to save Israel from destruction and genocide.
