Jews nine times more likely than Muslims to be victims of hate crimes

Jewish people are nine times more likely than Muslims to be victims of hate crime, according to the latest Home Office data.

The figures reveal that Jewish people faced hate crimes at a rate of 116.5 offences per 10,000 people last year, compared with 13.3 per 10,000 for Muslims.

Official data also show that racially and religiously motivated hate crime recorded by police hit record highs.

Religious hate crimes targeting Jewish people were up by 10 per cent from the year before, to 3,162, while crimes against Muslims rose by 15 per cent, to 5,132.

The latest Home Office data were published a day after a number of arrests were made at protests and demonstrations in London on the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.

I knew there had been a significant rise in antisemitic hate crime, but didn't realise it was quite that bad.

Twiglets1 · 08/10/2026 19:47

One of the depressing things about the above data of course is that religious hate crimes have risen against both Jews and Muslims.

But yes, Jewish people face the highest rate of police-recorded religious hate crimes per head of population compared to any other religious group in England and Wales.

One of the most awful things is the reporting in the Guardian which states that there were 5132 attacks against Muslims and 3162 attacks against Jews. Thus giving the impression that the Muslim community was under greater attack.
What they failed to mention is that the UK Jewish population is approximately 292,000 whilst the Muslim population is approximately 4 million!
Am I the only one who thinks that is really disgraceful reporting?

I agree it is biased reporting from the Guardian not to give the data both in terms of the actual numbers and per 10,000 of the population.

Anti semitism is such a problem in the UK (and globally). I feel desperate for the Jewish community

No, it is completely disgraceful and exactly what one can expect from The Guardian.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 08/10/2026 20:39

Yes, and you’re also 10 times more likely to be killed in a jihadi attack than in a ‘far right’ attack.

All are equally bad, but the impression of scale is very skewed on here.

I remember seeing a comment where somebody said their Jewish child was being harassed at school over Gaza. One response was ‘well what do you expect, it must be very triggering for them to see Muslims being exterminated in this way’.

I asked whether that meant Islamophobia was acceptable after 9/11, they never responded.

Yes that is absolutely disgraceful reporting!

So wrong to think it’s ok to be antisemitic towards Jewish people in the UK because of what is happening in Gaza. There is just no excuse for it.

The figures do not surprise me. It is not a competition and the only acceptable level is nil.

We don't blame or target Russians in the UK because of Putin's government, and should not be blaming Jewish people for Netanyahu's.

The Guardian has become the left wing equivalent of the Daily Mail on certain topics, this being one.
It's a sad loss.
I want news not propaganda.

Jewish people need be louder in their condemnation of what is happening in Gaza, or it needs to be reported more if they are being loud about it already.

They absolutely do not need to be seen or heard condemning it in order to avoid being attacked or targeted. What a stupid thing to suggest.

I completely disagree with you. Every individual in the U.K. is entitled to live their life free of violence. This is not dependent on them taking a political stance.

If you extend your own reasoning - is it okay to rape you because you don’t call out bitchy women? Is it okay to steel from you because you don’t condemn capitalism? Is it okay to murder you because of your political convictions? Where does this end, or does this only apply to Jewish people?

If you know any Jewish people, you will find that many of them are trying to attract as little attention to themselves as possible, and they definitely don’t want to take a stance and loudly express their opinion on the conflict. Meanwhile, they are having to hire security guards for bar mitzvahs and family events. This is a huge stain on our country.

TheEasterPangolin · 08/10/2026 22:01

[Jewish people need be louder in their condemnation of what is happening in Gaza, or it needs to be reported more if they are being loud about it already.]

If I do that will I definitely not be harassed then? That’s good to know. Are Russian expats and those of Russian descent living here told they need to be louder in their condemnation of what is happening in Ukraine or those of Chinese descent they need to be louder in their condemnation of what is happening to the Uighur people? That is just unreasonable and unfair. And if I march in town each week, condemning the Israeli government , will everyone with ill-intent against me know I’m the ‘right sort of Jew and leave me and my family alone? Do I need to carry a sign with me at all times or wear a badge perhaps? I just want to go about my life without listening to people chanting for our annihilation and fearing for my kids and grandkids.

Menopausalsourpuss · 08/10/2026 22:11

So @Cheese55 do you also think Muslims need to be more vocal about Muslims persecuting Christians as they are across the Middle East and Africa or they deserve to be attacked or is it just Jews that need to critique their fellow religionists?

Because the Jewish child is responsible for the actions of the Israeli government?

Gilleep · 08/10/2026 22:19

I find the equivocation around this awful. People will go to any lengths to misrepresent the problem, or to say that the numbers only look so high because Jewish people are particularly conscientious about reporting (with an implication that they're just great big complainers), or worst of all, say they deserve it.

What does it say about our society if an individual Jewish person is nine times more likely to experience a hate crime than a Muslim person (who will himself be experiencing more hate crimes than a Christian)? They have to have bodyguards at synagogues. It's shameful.

Do you similarly question the lack of Muslim outcry over the rape gangs or the actions of the Afghan ‘government’?

Why? Because they’re the same religion? Do you believe British Muslims need to be more vocal about the actions of the Taliban? If not, why not?

Nice antisemitism there, @Cheese55. Thanks much for proving the point of this thread.
