Would you live near a cemetery/graveyard?

Just watched Location and a couple went to view a nice house, but when they saw it had a view of a graveyard they were immediately put off. I personally really like them and find them peaceful and interesting to look at. Would others object?

Yes I would. Wouldn't put me off at all. As you say, nice and peaceful and quiet.

Near is fine

Having a direct view, I’m not so sure…maybe? Depends how much you like the House I guess.

Ace42 · 07/10/2026 21:36

Wouldn't have any issue with it at all. I actually love old graveyards and wondering about all the people's stories.

Beingseenisneedy · 07/10/2026 21:36

We lived near one when younger and used to play there as kids.
Wouldn't choose to live near one now though.

ExperiencedTeacher · 07/10/2026 21:37

Used to live in a flat overlooking a church and graveyard. It was lovely, peaceful and pretty.

NattyQuail · 07/10/2026 21:37

I grew up next to a graveyard in a private cul-de-sac with no lights and it was creepy. My mum had trouble selling for this reason. Lovely house though in a very well to do area.

live near one but can't see it from my home. quite neighbours!

ClaudettedeBeauvoir · 07/10/2026 21:38

Yes, I'd quite like it. I could live my gothic fantasy life!

ShakyBake · 07/10/2026 21:40

Old neighbour of ours once did in the late 80's and she was plauged awfully white shouts through the letterbox of 'let me out' and 'who shut the door' from the local hoodlums

Saz12 · 07/10/2026 21:40

If still in use, I wouldnt be as keen, but quiet neighbours and open space... absolutely I would!

MellowSubmarine · 07/10/2026 21:41

I used to live directly across the road from one. It didn’t bother me at all - lovely and quiet, and no houses directly across from my window. It had a lot of trees so was a nice view.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 07/10/2026 21:41

I do live beside a graveyard! Big cemetery with lots of Victorian graves and new ones added all the time. It's beautiful. Not scary at all, just very peaceful.

Blossombaby99 · 07/10/2026 21:42

My house overlooks an old graveyard at the back. It’s so very and peaceful, very open with beautiful mature trees. It’s part of a green corridor, we hear owls at night, and when I WFH I often see a buzzard perched on its favourite gravestone near our fence. We often walk there. Never thought it was spooky or found it odd at all!

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · 07/10/2026 21:43

No, I’d find it sad more than creepy tbh!

ArcherMalory · 07/10/2026 21:43

I agree that I don’t think I would if it was still in use. But I would live next to an old church graveyard

WhoGives2Fucks · 07/10/2026 21:46

Would I live next door to a funeral director? Absolutely not shudder I think I’d be scared of what I might see.

Have a I lived next to a cemetery? Yes didn’t give it much thought. I could see it from my landing window but other houses backed on to it whereas mine didn’t so felt like they would be in the firing line first 🤔

tiredmummasita · 07/10/2026 21:47

No

CaseClosedWineOpened · 07/10/2026 21:51

I lived next to a church with a graveyard for a few years and it didn’t bother me at all. Very peaceful like others have said.

Hecksonaplane · 07/10/2026 21:53

Yes for the very same reason as pp, it’s quiet and peaceful. I wouldn’t expect it to be built on either what’s not to like

Imisscoffee2021 · 07/10/2026 21:55

Nearby is fine, they're peaceful and often the old ones are pretty with mature trees and lots of wildlife.

I viewed a flat to rent once that had a graveyard literally behind it, like as a back garden. People were sitting inches from graves in their tiny strip of "garden". That was too much, too close, felt very gloomy .

Esperanza25 · 07/10/2026 21:59

Genuinely wouldn’t worry me at all!

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/10/2026 22:07

The only issue I had living near a graveyard was rats. I also lived in a chapel for many years.
It's the people outside of the graveyard that are more dangerous!

Santasbigredbobblehat · 07/10/2026 22:09

That’s not beside a cemetery, that’s IN the cemetery!

Sgtmajormummy · 07/10/2026 22:13

With a big family and one salary, the best house my DP could afford had a huge municipal cemetery on the other side of the hedge.
It was a beautiful green area with a mixture of old and new graves. The crematorium was out of sight but we did see the smoke occasionally (“That’s a bad’un, look at the colour!”).
I walked to primary school through the cemetery and later we rode our bikes along the paths to get to the town park, always dismounting if there was a funeral.
Friends didn’t enjoy walking home with me but we could always go the long way round!
I loved that place and the house had plenty of room for us all.
