Reference books (at a minimum we usually had Brewer’s Phrase and Fable and a dictionary out at the dinner table), nonfiction, novels, letters (especially writing thank you letters, but also regular family letters), newspapers, magazines, textbooks, holiday diaries, postcards, hundreds of Christmas cards.

I miss Kwik Save. Ours had open-topped freezers and a chiller section you walked through with big plastic sheets at either end to keep the chill in.

WOW kwick save was our weekly treat to buy those icecream pots in a pack of 10... and them crisp things that were in little crispy bits 👌
Edited to add also remember the fridge section with the wafting plastic bits... thinking u live close by now 😁
