Would you vote to re-join the EU in another referendum?

GorgeousSpringtime · 01/10/2026 14:24

Simple question. If there is another referendum to re-join the EU, will you be voting to re-join?

This isn't to have a go at anyone who supported Brexit, or who supported Remain, it's just a quick straw poll. Thank you. Smile

If anyone is wondering, (or cares!) I think I will vote to re-join. (I won't say at this point what I voted for last time...)

It was to make our life easier but they won't bend over backwards to provide that level of resource if we aren't in the EU! It's like when you go abroad and EU passport holders sweep through e booths while the rest of us have to queue up for the 3 passport desks out of 10 that are manned! They don't push your boat out (no pun intended) for idiots that left the club!

They are doing a huge amount for some reason. Tear gas on the beaches and chaotic scenes.

The EU countries are still wrangling over migrant disagreements. Brexit of not it makes no odds. That’s because domestic electorates are voting for a changed system with reduced migration.

Look at political shifts in Germany and France. Take a look generally at what’s happening in various EU countries.

There is so much at risk going back in ,I struggle to equate passport queues and being in charge of our own destiny .

My brain won't put the two together.

I've never had to wait and if I do I shall consider it a very very small insignificant price to pay for our control over our own destiny.

Yes but only if a tight ship re immigration from the ME and North Africa was agreed first. This issue is tearing the West apart. We sadly need to close the door to any more asylum seekers, agree a non interventionist policy when it comes to military outlook, and make it clear to Trump and his thugs that we will not be assisting them with anything and will focus on ourselves from this point onwards. If that can all be done, yes absolutely, I’m in favour in inter-EU freedom of movement and trade.

The EU and Tony Blair started all this madness odd when he lifted working rights and plunged our country into a state of utter chaos when undocumneted numbers of eastern Europeans came here and we had no idea how many.

Along with that wave of good hardworking people also came gangsters from elsewhere seeding in drugs and slavery.

We don't need foreign workers in care we have neets who can do those jobs.

We have high levels of youth unemployment we don't need outside workers for these jobs we need to help our own young.

Yes the blakans want to join and ukraine and we know why.

Russia and Putin !

Nothing else.

Norway /Switzerland /Iceland and us are all fine thanks.

No one got kicked out * either.

Many millions of eastern Europeans are still here working !

Immigtration from being in the EU is why we are where we are now.

And when we were in the EU we have massive issues with people trying to get in via lorrys i can't believe people forgot all this ! Care for clais etc !

Yes people did get kicked out because they made the income threshold for a visa to stay 25000 which most of the low and unskilled jobs don't pay! Hence why we lost vast swathes of agricultural workers, hospitality workers, care workers! You cannot pretend different! They were forced out because they didn't meet the 25k threshold!

It's been ten years, why have NEETS and people on benefits not ran to fill those jobs yet? They don't want to do it! Care homes can't waste time on people that don't want to be there and will not perform properly or turn up every shift! It's a much more complicated issue than you make it out to be. If they don't want to be there they will make excuses not to be, they'll find a way to get back on benefits until the benefits system gets toughened up.

The Balkan countries want to be more EU aligned which proves my point that nobody is leaving and others are joining.

CeeJay81 · 04/10/2026 09:24

Probably not but unsure and i voted remain. Def yes to a customs union/single market. Brexit was a very expensive mistake. I think the EU would be reluctant to have us now and the terms would be far worse than what we had. We really did have a "have your cake and eat it" agreement.

MrsJeanLuc · 04/10/2026 09:27

I voted Remain at the time, partly for freedom of movement and partly for the trading benefits.

But I wouldn't vote to rejoin now. It would be too much disruption and cost. And in any case I don't think they would have us. Or at least the terms would be very unfavourable. Joining the Euro, for instance, would harm our economy.

You have ignored everything I've laid out in previous posts about the vast vast amount of benefits to being back in the EU and the significant risks and issues of not having our immediate neighbours to rely on, and yet you are still in denial! There are no real risks to going back in, it gets rid of the massive amount of damage it's done. You sound ridiculous pretending it's just about passport queues! I've literally laid out in earlier posts a massive amount of information on the problems of Brexit and why we need the EU, you need to read that instead of pretending it's just about a queue! Have your eyes and ears been sealed shut for the last ten years? Stop pretending nothing has changed, it's stupid! And no I haven't had bad queues but that's because I don't really go to places where masses of Brits descend at the same time! But it certainly has been a problem as has been well documented and some countries have again abandoned the EES system because its been too problematic! Get on YouTube and look up videos of airport chaos at places like Tenerife! My friend has been caught in it, passport queues going out the airport and across the car park!
We always had control of our own destiny, Nigel brainwashed you because he had offshore tax havens the EU were about to put the kibosh on so he needed to scare you into voting to screw your own country over.

Grower37 · 04/10/2026 09:49

Have people not all had the experience where you go to a EU country on holiday and have bad interactions with people who have an EU passport but aren't exactly of the land itself?

Ilovewhippets · 04/10/2026 09:51

Islamophobia and antisemitism on the rise

@SevenYellowHammers why did leaving the EU cause Islamophobia and antisemitism to rise?

Pineneedlesincarpet · 04/10/2026 10:22

FlyingCatGirl · 04/10/2026 08:45

There's a number of countries in the process of joining, I like travelling around the Balkans and a good few are in the process of joining, Georgia also wants to join.

They are very poor countries which will need a huge injection of funds from the EU on accession. Money which will need to come from somewhere. It will be a repeat of what happened when the eastern bloc countries joined at the start of the century and of course freedom of movement will mean large numbers imof workers can travel anywhere. Which was one of the seeds of Brexit of course.

We need to be very careful what we are joining.

We can't join the euro. Our debt is in £ and is too huge and growing steadily thanks to Labour. We would be too vulnerable.

In fact Andy Burnham's rising spending will guarantee we cannot rejoin. Which he probably knows. Which implies him suggesting it is possible is a cynical election ploy.

There is a difference between those countries you list as they will all be net takers.

The UK will be a net contributor. Germany is top with us as second. Quite a big hole in the EU budget at the moment. Why do you think Germany wants us back. Plus France and Spain. Net contributors desperate to get money back into the union. Iceland said no. Canada and Australia are being touted by the EU as 'associates' but dammit they are not in Europe! They can't dip into their finances like they can the UK.

You also mentioned no other country has left. No other country has been given the option to leave.

ProfessoressaSazzasez · 04/10/2026 10:40

Newbutoldfather · 04/10/2026 08:57

@FlyingCatGirl ,

We would also have to take in our fair share of EU asylum seekers (or pay a financial penalty) were we to join.

And, as for getting more help were we in the EU, that is an assumption. We would have to join to test it out.

The surge in the “small boat” channel crossings (many not so small) is a direct result of Brexit.

In the EU, if one country refuses you asylum, they all have. No point moving to another to ask again.

But if you can get to a non-EU country conveniently located just off the coast, you can start afresh.

I’d rather we took documented & controlled numbers of asylum seekers than an unknown, unknowable number who disappear from view.

Edited

Have a look at numbers for the DA. Are there any EU countries who have used it to send back enough people en masse to first countries of entry?

LongDarkTeatime · 04/10/2026 10:48

Arcticienne · 04/10/2026 05:33

Thank you for that. In return I’ll just offer you this. Back in the glorious days of our EU membership the vast majority of those eligible to vote didn’t bother to turn out. And probably like yourself back in those halcyon days, if they’d been asked to name their MEP or explain what their European rep. did and how they did it - the response would have been a blank stare. Stirred your memory ..?

Nope.
Curious answer showing you really did not/do not know anything about voting in EU representatives.
I knew, and have met, some of the MEPs who represented my region. Do you live somewhere which only had one?!?! As they were regional elections I didn’t think anywhere only had one. So either you live in a VERY unique place, or are talking about the fantasy anti EU propaganda which bares no relation to reality.

@LongDarkTeatime come on ! It's hard enough to live life and keep up with our own rag tag bag of misfits in Westminster ! How on earth is anyone supposed to keep an eye on the sheer volume of corruption and wastage over there ?
I simply don't understand why anyone wants another further removed layer of government

Hope your boss knows you’ll just abandon anything you consider overly complex, even if it’s good for the company. Guess you prefer a big red bus with a lie on it.
Personally I find as soon as you silence the mis-information/propaganda it all quite straightforward.

ProfessoressaSazzasez · 04/10/2026 10:52

I think they meant the repeicoty deal wasn't the same..eg people believed that if you can get as a french person free NHS and hospital here ,you can in France. Not so
During the union we had an injured child and the French hospital wouldnt look at her until we had been interviwed // no translators provides as we do in the UK pigeon fench trying to work out what was going on.
Addresses and details taken and eventually they looked at DD.
We got a bill sent to us at home.

That level of parity wasnt there.

No counties offer the same benefits or access either.

I never needed medical treatment in France but reciprocity worked perfectly well in Italy.

SevenYellowHammers · 04/10/2026 10:52

Not sure what it has to do with the pp’s boss or why she would be brought up as a counter, but re-joining is complex.

Adopting the euro would not be straightforward at all.

ProfessoressaSazzasez · 03/10/2026 20:32

Many adults believed that it too.

And a whole lot of other nonsense.

i remember a leave voter telling me that EU citizens could move here with no bureaucratic issues at all, but that we could not do the same without loads of red tape.

As I had lived & worked in 4 EU countries since 1988 without so much as a stamp on my passport - even for 6 years in notoriously bureaucratic Italy where at the time Italian citizens had to renew their birth certificates every 6 month - was the wrong person to try to pull that one on.

In the interest of balance I should add that the Sunday after the vote, OH & I were talking to a rather grand former MEP.

We said the obvious things about how surprised we were by the result, & one of us added that a lot of people perhaps felt they had been ignored by the powers that be.

They said “Yes, and that’s why we should ignore it now.”

i boggled & they added “It won’t matter: they’re used to it.”

im glad OH was there too as afterwards we turned to each other & asked if we’d heard right.

That’s what you call a democratic deficit.

Why do you think the EU solves this?

Germany has the highest number of undocumented migrants.
