Christa Pike -where does she stand legally?

Just this really. Christ a is obviously being giving life saving treatment at hospital but where does she now stand legally. I suppose she probably has irreversible brain damage so will this not allow a second execution to take place? Is this a cruel and unusual punishment?

It's braver to call for mercy than it is vengeance.

I for one am heartened there are so many brave people willing to stand up here.

What a load of rubbish. 🤣

dustabsorber · 01/10/2026 10:55

There is more detail in US online papers. She was still conscious after the first dose and still snoring an hour after the procedure started. Its cruel not just on her, but also all those present.

Yosemitee · 01/10/2026 10:53

None of this is justice, It’s vengeance. There is no justice for Colleen’s family.

Well that's not up to anyone to decided apart from Colleen's Mum obviously.

In the olden days when I grew up in South Africa it was hanging. If for a weird reason the rope broke the person walked free. It was an "act of God ".
Bearing in mind what thus woman did I suspect an act of Satan more like.

Released? So many do gooders on Mumsnet...that's not justice for what she did to Colleen. Colleen's poor Mum.

It's easy for them to say because it wasn't their daughters that she tortured murdered and carved a pentagram in her chest christa isn't anybody who deserves sympathy

inerja · 01/10/2026 11:03

I think making a spectacle of executing a sexual abuse victims with mental health problems and probable learning difficulties when they have a rapist as a president says it all.
we are living in a dystopia.

What a stupid argument. Of course justice isn't determined by the victim's family. To make that the rule would mean victims who have no family wouldn't matter at all. And obviously where the murderer is a family member they could just let themselves go free.

I read that prisoners have to be mentally competent to understand that they are being executed and why. If she has significant brain damage from the failed execution, the may not be legally allowed to try again.

Unfortunately not so.
They executed a man with dementia earlier in the year.
I don't remember the state.
I was horrified to read that.

mn5962 · 01/10/2026 11:11

Typical America really......f* up everything.

PrettyLittleRose · 01/10/2026 11:14

@mids2019

I had no idea who you were talking about... A link in the original post would be helpful!

I have now looked her up, and she is a nasty piece of work, a murderer, so I don't care what happens to her.

Cadeaukatze · 01/10/2026 11:22

Yosemitee · 01/10/2026 10:17

This whole thing is awful. They tried to kill her twice, now they’re desperately trying to save her life? To what end? And she’s now most likely brain damaged anyway?

I don’t think it takes away from her crime to recognise that this human being has been broken in so many ways by so many people.

Agreed.

What a life she's had and will continue to have if she is locked up in a secure hospital with brain damage. Better not to have been born and then Colleen would probably still be here too. I know there were two others involved in her murder but the situation might not have arisen to kill her.

Such a sad case on all levels.

Oh and of course, abortion isn't allowed in Tennessee. Nothing is said about her parents. But one wonders if her mother actually wanted her, given she allowed her to be abused by countless men.

BillieWiper · 01/10/2026 11:26

Why can't they just give benzos and a barbiturate OD like they do with animals? And surely they need to be giving 'pain free death treatment', not 'life saving' treatment if she's meant to have already died? It seems cruel to bring her back so they can try and kill her again?

Missey85 · 01/10/2026 08:34

I hope it hurt she deserves nobody's sympathy mine is saved for the real victim Colleen that she murdered I hope she does slowly and very painfully

Jesus wept.

What other cruel punishments would you support? Flogging? Cutting off thieves' hands?

dustabsorber · 01/10/2026 11:28

They will asphyxiate her with nitrogen, next year.

Singapore canes violent offenders and has a very low crime rate.

I think after two injections that she was deemed to be alive, so it was considered that the injections had failed.

But if thry faiekd, she wouldn't need resusitsting. I dint understand why if she wasn't breathing they didn't let her die? I'm probably being a bit thick here in how long tbay would take

EmmaOfNormandy · 01/10/2026 11:42

When Michael Portillo (who was also a death penalty advocate, until he researched it) presented Horizon "How To Kill A Human" nitrogen asphyxiation was found to be reliable and humane. However it was rejected in the US as too painless.

Speaks volumes, really.

Only in America. They’ll probably send her a massive medical bill too.

In the nineteenth century we used to send the family of an executed criminal the bill for the hanging..... thank God we are beyond that now.

NeelyOHara · 01/10/2026 07:47

This 100%.

You are either against the death penalty or you´re not. I would expect that person to be behind bars FOR LIFE, and I mean life. Only coming out in a wooden box. But no, I don´t expect murders to be commited in my name.

LakieLady · 01/10/2026 11:50

autumncrisp · 01/10/2026 10:52

I will never agree with the death penalty. For many reasons. One being it makes no sense. "Murder is illegal so as a punishment I will murder you". Double standards. Lock someone up for life, absolutely. Murder them? No.

That's very much my position. If killing people is wrong, it's wrong for the state to do it (other than in times of war where it is an act of defence, obvs).

However, I'm in favour of assisted dying for the terminally ill that want it. Some people find that baffling.

DrBlackbird · 01/10/2026 11:54

Nitrogen asphyxiation is dreadful as the person literally cannot get their breath. It also has had occurrences of where it went wrong. Some of the states came up with it as a last resort only because drug manufacturers would not sell them the medication required for a medically assisted death.
