My all time favourites are : Fauda, Homeland, Line of Duty and I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet- This is Us. I also really loved the US version of Shameless. If you like crime dramas then Law and Order and Criminal Minds are great.

West Wing. It’s amazing

Designated Survivor
Good Girls
The Cleaning Lady
The Crown
The Queen’s Gambit
Top Boy
Mad Men
You
Maid

The Crown is a good watch if you're like me and enjoy shouting at the telly 'That's ridiculous! That would never have happened! They've got that completely wrong!' etc. It is a good drama for all that!

Adding One that I don’t think has been mentioned - 24. Dated from a tech point of view but still gripping.

I suggested 24 as it’s my absolute all time favourite. I remember staying up half the night watching it. Incredible tv

I've taken note of loads of shows I've missed. I love coming to a series late because I don't have to wait for new episodes and seasons. Binge watching is just the best.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned Unforgotten. It's a detective show about cold cases without much in the way of violence/gore. Each season is a different case. It's on ITVX and a new season is coming next year.

We're in the middle of rewatching House. I binged it about 12 years ago when DH was working away and all we had was a DVD player. I had forgotten how funny it was - but that might be because I had far too many late nights doing the "just one episode" thing...

My few quid a month to watch C4 without ads is worth every penny!

My kids basically watch it on repeat!

This will keep me going for years! Still not many that I have actually watched.

I LOVED This is us. I watched The Crown and Downton long after anyone else....Maid, and You.

I have a rational dislike of GOT, family members Ex was an extra and would NOT stop banging on about it. So Im put off 😂

Line of Duty if you like police dramas.

I’d say start with Line of Duty. Each season isn’t ridiculously long. The final season was a bit “meh” for lots of people, BUT - there’s a new season coming (after a bit if a gap), so could be good to get up to date before new season starts.

Another one giving the thumbs up to Breaking Bad. And I’d recommend that you then follow on with Better Call Saul. Don’t break them up by finding something else to watch in between.

My BIL recommended Vikings and The Last Kingdom. I never thought they’d be “my bag”. Put them off for ages. Bloody loved both of them, kind of wish I was watching for the first time again.

The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead. Both cracking for the first few seasons. I did persevere to the end, but the first four or five were great.

Westworld - gets a bit confusing! But the first couple of seasons were brilliant.

Cant remember what channel/service, maybe Netflix? But a recent 6-part series called Legends. Loosely based around undercover work to bring down drug trafficking in the 80s.

And for something mind numbingly trashy/easy, I loved Alias - Sidney Bristol and all her disguises 😂

Line of Duty

A new season drops early next year so you can be currant in where you are

ER , Was of its time I think. Dont get me wrong - absolutely brilliant in its time ( Casualty on Steriods ) but I think there's a lot better out there now . I loved New Amsterdam and am looking forward to watch The Pitt when I get the subscription

I live in the middle of the NI film sets for GOTs and I didnt watch it until I thinking season 5 was on. Dragons? Fantasy Lands? So not my cup of tea

Then we watched it. The first 3 episode were so confusing we gave up so many times but then we clicked - and DH who's a bed at 9pm man, was still up at 11pm to watch " just one more episode"

Boreded · 01/10/2026 02:27

ER first. Outrageously good.

ER is still beyond anything that has come since. The Pitt was excellent though

I agree with many of these and thanks for some great recommendations too.

I normally see Slow Horses enthused about on these types of lists/ threads .

In fact I just stayed watching it this week as so many people seem to love it (but not so much the new series by all accounts?) I see one poster mentioned it.

I am only 4 episodes in and enjoying so far. Not blown away but enjoying. Should I continue?
