It's true that some Americans' pronunciation of Iraq and Iran makes me blink a bit. I-ran (like a dog, I ran) and I-rack (the dishes after washing them, I suppose), but even given that, I don't think they're particularly hard to say in a way other people will understand.

The difference is that Iran and Iraq have populations who pronounce their own countries one way, and many Americans pronounce those countries quite differently for no particular reason. It's not as if they were hallowed by antiquity like the weirdly-pronounced names in England.
